That sounds like you have great plans!
If one of your trips takes you to a Dutch city, do consider saving yourself from going to the touristic trap that is Amsterdam. I think every vlogger and their grandmom has been to the S&P store already, and there are so many other yarn stores worth visiting. F.i. Sticks and Cups in Utrecht is amazing, and I know Groningen, Leiden, Arnhem and Den Haag also have nice yarn stores.

Using your scrap yarn and make a Tolsta tee. I’m using Luma by The Fiber Co and im doing 6 rounds of Blanca and then 2 rounds of 6 different colors. And scraps would be great for something like that!

Don’t forget that you can mail purchases home to yourself! I can envision myself sending acquisitions home several times🤷‍♀️😂😂

You can also use a salad/lettuce spinner to spin out most of the water in more delicate knits or wool items without agitation.

Welcome to Europe (I live in France)! For gauge swatches I was taught to add a garter stitch "frame" to the actual recommend number of stitches (2-3 rows at the bottom and up and 3 stitches on the sides). I don't know if this is the best way but it works well for me.
    Have a great work trip!

I’ve been told to use a salad spinner for a more delicate material or a non superwash. It wouldn’t work for a very large piece but for the average, it works well. 😅 Diane from Boston

Thank you so much. So glad you don’t rush & explain every thing so well. Have a great trip. If you get a chance go toEdinburgh, Scotland, wonderful wool growing. I went to farm & played with the sheep. Pickup some Calendula lanolin ointment. Great for knitters hands.

Enjoy your trip! I think packing 2 sweater WIPs should be more than enough for your trip because you can definitely buy and cast on yarn while you're abroad. I overpacked for a 3 week trip to Europe and ended up finishing 2 out of the 3 projects, but bought enough yarn for 8! more projects (all 1 skein projects but still lol)

    • @neknits
      @neknits  ปีที่แล้ว

Thank you! I think I made a good decision “under packing” projects since it’s easy to start new projects if I want!

good description of the 'pinot noir' yarn color! 🙂...after many fit-issue moments, i decided that henceforth my swatches will all be 8" wide; Patty Lyons mentioned swatch size in her 'swatches lie' column on MDK a few months ago. also, what Helene said below--yes!... have a great trip!

I am enjoying your podcasts so much! I'm learning more and more how different yarns affect different types of patterns. I like how you describe the yarn you use and then do a review of how it was to knit with, as well as how it drapes and washes. Safe travels! Yay for a travel podcast! Have fun in the yarn stores. Like any of us need more yarn lol but it's always fun to see what's out there.

Ooooo I thrifted 7 skeins (7!! I couldn't believe it) of Berroco Ultra Alpaca and it was a toss up between the Zipper Sweater, The Lannark Sweater and potentially the Hazel Sweater. I swatched for the Lannark and came to the conclusion of "This is too engaging and not in the right way for me right now" and actually ended up casting on the Hazel Sweater (Petite Knit)! I'm well into the back yolk now. I'm going to do it mock neck instead of a turtle neck and lengthen the body as well so there is more weight to it. I'm also knitting a size smaller because I'm not the biggest fan of HOW much positive ease is called for. Just a personal preference for my body type - But I'm SO EXCITED for cozy knits!

Enjoy your trip! I just swatched for the zipper sweater too using Peer Gynt and Mohair and got the same gauge as you 16.5. I'm disappointed.. I really wanted to use that combo I tried going up a needle size and I don't really love the fabric and I'm still a stich off. I was afraid to move forward due to the pattern being oversized, I wish the smallest size was smaller than it is. Oh well.. I'm going to try a different yarn and go for the zipper sweater light. I hope it works out!

Right after my wedding ceremony (but before the reception) someone spilt a glass of Pinot noir on my white wedding dress. 😡 so speaking from experience, Pinot actually leaves a very light pink stain, much lighter than your sweater 🙃

@@neknits no worries. It was a long time ago. And a good family friend said “you can let it ruin your day or you can let it go”. So I let it go and had a wonderful wedding. 20 years ago this October.

Have you tried swatching in the round vs flat? My gauge for stockinette is much looser flat than in the round, so it may help to swatch in the round if you haven't.

One way to ensure the sweater doesn't stretch when you spin it is to put it in a lingerie bag. Helps not stretch superwash yarn especially.
