    I drove last summer and thought how crazy I was to do it. Until I seen bike riders. During a terrible rain fall I picked up a rider as there was 0 trees or rocks to hide under. My hat off to you guys.

    I lived in Inuvik (and many other places in the arctic) and it was interesting to see the summer road to Tuk, wow. And the Dempster was in amazing condition compared to the 70s. Great video, love the channel.

    Fun to see the Demptser by bike 25 after years after I did the same ride. Without the new road extending to Tuk, in my time, I hopped in a cargo plane as my only way to get a few hours in Tuk and go for a swim. Great weather for your ride.

    Good move taking a chain tool and quick links. Other Dempster cyclists take note! The Dempster dirt has magical powers to break things.
    Somebody always suggests an internal gearbox and Gates belt when a derailer breaks but if you are equipped to handle a broken derailer you can press on and save money to spend on beer.

    • @SirBikesAlot
      @SirBikesAlot  ปีที่แล้ว

      I brought three quick links and needed all of them! Gear boxes are nice but a bit too expensive for my taste (would rather spend of beer anyway) I’m not sure it would fit on this bike anyway. Thanks for watching.

    Fantastic trip. Loved the scenery.
    Cure for the broken derailleur. Consider a bike with Pinion gears (no derelailleurs to break) and Gates carbon belt. (Carry an extra belt).

    • @SirBikesAlot
      @SirBikesAlot  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s certainly something I’ll consider in the future. Gear boxes are pretty costly so I’m waiting for the price to come down. I think my next bike will be a hardtail bike and I’m not sure many of them are belt compatible.

      Hey, we flew into Dawson Airport and spent a few days camping around and hanging out near Dawson. We loaded on up food/supplies and played some disc golf. The night before riding the dempster we road the 20 some km to Klondike river campground and camped there. The next am we road another 20 some km to the start of the dempster which is where the video starts. I'd highly recommend the dempster for sure. It was an amazing experience.

    • @SirBikesAlot
      @SirBikesAlot  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Almotion did great on this trail. Super fast and they handled well in deeper gravel. I’m glad I used them for this trip. Once I got home I tossed a new set of mezcals back on because they are super versatile and handles well on gnarly terrain. The dempster was surprisingly in great shape. Good luck!

    Friends and I are doing this in July. I had a question: the food drop off at Eagle Plains. How did you go about arranging that? We want to do something similar (have a box at the hotel waiting for us) but I couldn't quite figure out where to start.

    • @peteza4487
      @peteza4487 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Go visit the Northwest Territories Tourism Office in Dawson City and they’ll take your food box and arrange for another tourist (who’s not travelling by bike!) to drop it off at Eagle Plains Hotel 👍. I dropped my box off at the Yukon Tourism Office across the street from the NWT office and they arranged the same thing for me. Funny thing is that I met the couple who dropped off my box at the hotel as they had already been to Tuk and were returning back down the Dempster. We had some beers in the bar there and then when I rode home to Vancouver I stayed with them at their home in Campbell River. Actually their home is very small so I stayed in their driveway in their truck & camper, the same truck & camper that they drove to Tuk in! All part of the adventure 😬 Have a great trip!! I loved it 😎

      @SirBikesAlot  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey thanks for watching. I can’t speak to Canada post for food drops. For this trip, you can drop a box of food off at the NWT tourism centre in Dawson city and they will send it up to eagle plains with a random tourist that stops in and will be driving up. Hope that helps.
