- Kylo Ren, as you can imagine, is based off of someone. Who is this person from legends? Jacen Solo. The son of Han and Leia Solo...only to later become, Darth Caedus. His story runs on some parallels with Ben Solo/Kylo Ren, which could give some insight or theory on Rise of Skywalker and Kylo Ren's fate. Personally, I hope Kylo is redeemed and I hope Anakin comes back to be the final catalyst to turn him to the light.

Kylo Ren is basically Jacen Solo, with only one difference:
Jacen studied what his grandfather did, and did not want to become like Darth Vader. However, he did fall to the Dark Side, ending up exactly like Vader.
Kylo wants to become like Darth Vader, but never did. Instead, he was redeemed, and gave his life in order to bring Rey back to life.

Apparently according to the thrawn Alliances grand Admiral thrawn actually was introduced to the Yuhzon vong and they told him that they were going to invade the Galaxy the only reason they didn't was because of Darth Sidious

Hell, you can make several trilogies of sequels based on the Legends. Thrawn's Trilogy, The Dark Empire, the Yuuzhan Vong War, the Dark Hive Crisis, and the Second Galactic Civil War. I'm not talking about the era of the Old Republic.
I would've preferred a Yuuzan Vong trilogy first, then the Darth Caedus trilogy. Some people claim Lucas planned 9 movies, others claim he planned 12. 9 makes the most sense (3 movies for each generation), but with 12, casual fans can watch the Yuuzan Vong and Darth Caedus unfold before their eyes on the big screen.

Jen Vincur Mara Jade and Jaina( who technically speaking is the original Rey) are better characters because they are incredibly strong because they actually busted their ass to get to their level. Rey literally gets kidnapped by kylo wakes up and uses force powers beats him and even beats Luke with no absolute training

Anakin Solo pops up: this name is cursed.
I loved the story of Jacen Solo/Darth Caedus. He was the hero of the Vong War. And he went dark to save the Galaxy and specifically his daughter. I thought it was a great way to turn the hero bad for good reasons. He really was a lot like Anakin. One of my favorite characters from legends lore. The way he became one with the Force fully to end the Vong War was awesome.

I know I'm 2 years too late, but as a Jacen Solo and in general EU fanboy, I must say that Jacen's story broke me emotionally. The Sacrifices he made , the pain he endured. He lost his uncle(Chewbacca),his brother, he was tortured by the Vong( twice), his sister was nearly driven to the darkside, and he had to give up the light side in order to save everyone( that last one was from his point of view). That's not even counting the fact that he was on the run for most of his early life and fighting as well, which includes the part of him when he was three years old and had to hold off Exar Kun's creatures with Luke's lightsaber while the man himself was in a coma. He went dark to preserve the light( including his kid), and it cost him everything. I'm sorry if this is a rant, he's just one of very few characters who's story gets me emotional.
All of this except Jaina = Sith. Period.

Story of Darth Vectivus was one of the best. He was literally called a Sith who did no evil. He wasnt even killed by his apprentice, but died of old age surrounded by his family

It's amazing how Jacen's story is regarded as a tragedy, whereas his grandfather's is not, even though they are extremely similar. This story really provides insight into just how tragic Star Wars is

Fun fact, I first learned about Jacen Solo/Darth Caedus when reading the Legacy of the Force series. I loved the character. Several years later, when we found out my wife and I were going to have a son, I got to pick his name. Both my step- daughter and my daughter have names beginning with "Ja", and non-traditional spellings. Seeing an opportunity to continue that trend, I told her his name was going to be Jacen, and she was fine with it.
Disney butchered Jacen and threw up the congealed mess into Kylo Ren.
Jacen’s story is compelling and tragic, Kylo’s is a hot mess. Jacen Solo is among my favorite Star Wars characters of all time, and I will never forgive Disney for shafting his story into non-canon status.
Jacen Solo fell to the Dark Side of the Force under the weight of his own fears for his family due to the death of his younger brother in the war. In his efforts to protect his family, he became increasingly violent, which led him to gradually become Darth Caedus.
Kylo Ren: - *crying* My uncle wanted to kill me! So I'm going to kill my dad to prove how bad I am! But I'm not very bad and I won't kill my mother! And yet I'm bad and I'll kill my uncle! But in fact, I'm not very bad because you need to like the girl and in the final of the trilogy to be healed by the power of love.
We, the fans, decide the canon. We can choose which stories to elevate and which stories to cast away.

Vader becoming stronger than god is relatively new. Sure, he was probably holding back some in his battle with Luke, but enough to actually be defeated? The Vader in JFO is like Dark Knight's Batman: a completely different character.

Force illusion, energy absorption, fighting sight,Flow walk, teleporting items, nightsister magic, shatterpoint, powerful force lighting which Vader couldnt learn because of the suit, and so much more. Caedus force knowledge is no joke.

These amazing stories make me see that we were absolutely *R O B B E D* with the Abrams trilogy
Imagine having this after the Thrawn Trilogy. A Yuuzan Vong war 10-part miniseries and then the slow build to the Darth Cadeus Arc. Lots of source materials can be used from the Legends continuity. Hell, there are other miniseries they can also do with the likes of Corran Horn, the Jedi Praexum, Kyp Durron, etc.
Jaina Solo and Darth Caedus will always be far superior characters to Rey and Kylo.

This legend and Mara Jade is always a Canon to me. The new trilogy is just a "what if" trilogy.
The new trilogy is someone's fan fiction acting as a Star Wars trilogy.
Says who? If one is to truly understand Star Wars, one must accept all its aspects, not just the dogmatic narrow view of the Sequel Trilogy haters. You cannot deny that the sequels are enjoyable, even if you view them as fan fics.

I am surprised how many parallels this story has with the MCU Infinity War/Endgame films.
1. A guy making reality altering decisions on seeing a series of alternate futures. The same guy sacrificing himself to ensure a form of peace. Jacen Solo/Tony stark
2. An antagonist killing a large percentage of people in order to maintain a "balance." Darth Caedus/Thanos
3. The antagonist torturing a member of his family for a greater purpose. Thanos torturing Nebula to pur Gamora, Darth Caedus torturing Ben to spur Luke.
Still it saddens me that Lucasfilm never considered doing their research into these books and at least ATTEMPTING to adapt these stories for their sequel trilogy. Anyways great video, hope you do more Legends exclusive content.
When you think about it Disney originally wanted to make Star Wars movies every year like Marvel and Star Wars had a treasure trove of material to draw inspiration from to inspire movies for years to come just like Marvel. What does Disney do? Excise all of it from the cannon and forget any of it even exists.

Great question. Seems like they are starting to figure that out. They've been sprinkling in more and more content from the Expanded Universe lately, and hinting at some big callbacks in the coming months. Jacen wasn't obsessed with vader he just found incredible how similar their situation were ( he had a forbidden love an a child that he try to protect , and the only way to do so was to turn to the darkside ). He became a darkside user due to the war and his love , he heard about Vader only after .

I love this dynamic of the EU. Jacen is definitely one in my favorite characters. Anakin solo and his heroics during TNJO was awesome. Jaina having to kill her twin was heart wrenching. Just before Disney bought Lucasfilm was a hard time in my life and being able to read most of the EU books between 2011-2015 I got very attached to these characters. I know a lot of people don’t agree but this is the storyline I wish we could have received for the sequel trilogy.
I dont know about you, but i dont care what DIsney says. Their Stuff is Fanfiction, very bad at worst (ST) and very to pretty good at best (Mando, R1) but Legends is still the true Canon to me. THIS is Star Wars.
It's true legends is long and illusive. But it's so intriguing despite how much detail it goes into. I really enjoyed it!

If there is no Thrawn, Mara, JacenJainaAnakin, Winter, Tycho, Wedge, NR VS IR, NEBULA STAR DESTROYER usw. usw. after ROTJ its just not Star Wars to me. It feels wrong. Like something pretending to be the thing i love so much and Characters and Ideas being stolen and then remade in Lame.
I think thats actually the thing that angers me the most about Disney Star Wars. They had the AUDACITY to just toss the Blood Sweat and Tears of so many Authors who had done Work continiously over more than 30 years to bring this magical, vast and amazing Universe to life, out of the Window and declare it not Canon because they wanted "a Fresh Start and creative Room for the Writers."
But then they literally in the FIrst Movie just remade Ep4 and gave us Darth Cadeaus Kindergarden Edition with Ben Swolo, a lame Amalgumation of so many Ripoffs turned into one disappointing mess.
And it just continioues! They are basically "creating" their new EU by just rehashing all of the Old material and pretending its something original. Its so insulting and pathetic, them pretending that none of these amazing, deep and intricate Characters and Stories ever existed to give us this lame, Social Politics infested Monstrosity.

Sure, Legends was conveluted, messy, didnt add up lot of the time and some of the stuff was down right stupid and silly. But thats exactly why i loved it so much. It felt real. Like a true, other galaxy to loose yourself in. Because reality is just as much of a tonally confused Mess.
But Most of it was just brilliant, Longterm overarching Storytelling that was way ahead of its time and Just STAR WARS to the Core. I agree, I loved the EU. Especially Rogue Squadron and the New Jedi Order. The new movies just aren’t good.

Alex Felix yeah that was definitely one part of the last Jedi that really pissed me off with Luke even having the thought of killing his nephew while he's sleeping but we don't know how far deep he was in the darkside nor any history of him having a fascination in the darkside or anything at all that could make him similar to darth Vader and all the monstrous deeds he did and for all we know if hobo Luke didn't act he'd probably still be a Jedi.

@@Observant213 Caedus was not redeemed. He did not become a Force ghost, unlike Anakin. Anakin DID become a Force ghost, having redeemed himself, but Caedus did not. Ben Solo also became a ghost, even though it is not seen.

Even the side characters like tenel ka djo and Tahiri veila are fucking awesome. Tahiri has an amazing story arc being raised by the sand people and falling in love with anakin only to turn to the dark side by caedus after his death.

I knew Han Solo had 3 kids before Ep 7 came to theaters. I knew that Jacen was the one who turned to the dark side and I thought Kylo Ren was going to be the new Jacen Solo along with Rey being the new Jaina Solo. That’s what was going through my head in that scene where Kylo grabs the officer and asks, “What Girl?!”

The 9 book series that was written about Caedus was actually pretty good. Lots of details in there and travels made with Luke and Ben. Sometimes the politics got the way of some of the action but overall it was a very good arc. it could probably be shrunk down to a movie trilogy. Made a remake of the Sequel Movies (7, 8, 9).
Because I read this series, it is probably why I didn't care much for Ben Solo/Kylo Ren.

I have never touched the old EU, but after my dissapointment with the Disney Trilogy, I decided to read some EU books, oh man they are waaaaayyy better than Disney Trilogy by far.
If you have time and money to spend I recommend Darth Bane path of destruction up to dynasty of evil. Darth Plagueis, crosscurrent, riptide (if you played Dark Forces 2, Mots, Jedi Outcast and JA and want to know what happens next) and Fate of the Jedi (if you love the Mortis arc in the Clone Wars series I'll recommend those 8 books)

For me, he was like Zuko from Avatar: ATLA, he was raging, screaming every time in the first two movie, but in TROS, he showed that he can be a really strong power user. He actually killed like 20 mining natives of Mustafar, and killed his guards with ease. He was so calm, if he wanted to kill Rey, he easily would. He just played her.
Same as Zuko. First two seasons: screaming, anger... Third season: calming down over time.
If you ask me, mara didn't deserve to be killed by her own nephew.

they should have continued the new movies off from where legends ended - after the book crucible. new stories but on the same timeline. the actors would be right age. chewy could have been retconned back to life in a comic or something before ep7.

Because if there was a chance for that and Kathleen blew it because she thought it was better to overwrite and throw away ALL of that potential, for an absolutely amazing sequel trilogy that would pay homage to the OT, the PT and Legends while making an entirely new story with fantastic world building, character development and story arcs with an amazing endgame for it. To setting the new trilogy exactly 30 years after the ending of the OT all in an effort to promote an agenda which I think isn't really necessary at all since they could've made Rey a better character if they took stuff from legends and used it in the new movies.
But anyway let me summarize what I said better because I confused it. So you're saying that if we kept Legends canonized and started the new trilogy from where it ended with all the same characters from the sequel trilogy, we would've gotten a trilogy that was a beautiful and amazing love letter to new and old fans alike? Because if that's true then Kathleen kennedy had made a very big mistake and that makes me upset and sad as a Star Wars fan.
Jacen and Tenel Ka were my favorite Star Wars characters, and their story a tragedy worthy of Shakespear. A real shame they now merely count as part of "Legens" now.

Curious to know how arresting Lumiya would have led to his fall and the death of Like at his hands. I think Lumiya was giving him false visions through Sith sorcery and the dark side Nexus. Similar to how Palpatine fed Anakin dreams of Padmes death.

I know most folks aren't into audio books, but Marc Thompson brings the characters of Legacy Of The Force to life in a fantastic way. I highly suggest listening to the 9 book series, as well as the others he has narrated! If Disney made movies based off of the EU...especially covering Han & Leia's marriage, Luke & Mara Jade's marriage, & how their families grow would have made much better cinematic sense.
I mainly listen to audiobooks and I am so sad that the Yuuzhan Vong series is an abridged audiobook version because that means I have to read the books to get everything and it will take much longer because for audiobooks you can listen to them while cleaning and stuff but books you have to sit down and read. But yeah, Marc Thompson does an amazing job. When I listened to the Legacy of the Force series (also abridged sadly) it really put me through the ringer lol.

I never knew how interesting legends would be and how similar they are to canon. This story does sometimes mirror that of episodes 1-6 in some aspects with the Galactic Alliance unknowingly becoming something like the Galactic Empire and Corellia mirroring that of the Confenderay of Independant Systems wanting freedom. Thanks for covering this.

In earnest even comparing Jacen to Kylo degrades the former’s name. Jacen was leagues above Kylo in every way.
