But you’ll be at a disadvantage when you first start out. Just don’t be discouraged.

Hi! Excellent video mate, and I feel kinda dumb asking for this but could you maybe make a video about tips for students aspiring for post graduate courses at UCL or other top tier unis? I mean stuff like what to keep in mind while making a portfolio and while applying etc
Yea of course, but since im still in undergrads i think i’ll just give my personal perspective on Bartlett as a whole in terms of what its all about, definitely a video i want to do :)
hi! This is absolutely incredible. I'm a visual arts and design student, and I really want to go to ucl but i havent done much architectural pieces in the past. Any recommendations on what to focu on? Were these pieces/projects set by your teachers? (thanks for the video!)
Thats cool! I think visual arts have so much in common with architecture. Maybe try drawing with a story or prompt in mind? As in less focused on techniques but more of using techniques to tell a story, for example, a painting of your room if you could buy anything you wanted. Or what would it look like if you were to design a teddy bear or a pillow that's most suitable for visual arts students, idk just random things that you enjoy haha. Try to build a story around these things that you can explain to the viewer and point to parts of the drawing as you go along. In my humble opinion, architecture is mostly storytelling of why a thing looks like what it is so as long as you can explain the reason you drew a certain thing in a certain way, it's good! And better if what you're drawing is somewhat structural/inhabitable :) A few of the projects at the end were school projects, but mostly are ones i did outside of school with prompts that i decided!
"If we ask you to send a digital portfolio, combine your pieces into one PDF document. It should be around ten pages and no larger than 10 MB." This is bartlett digital portfolio guideline. But you don't keep this guideline.(Pages of your porfolio is over than 10pages.) Is it fine? or have porfolio guideline changed?
Hmmm i actually don't know. I remember the limit to be "under 25 pages" when i applied. And i never submitted a PDF version, only a physical copy that i mailed to them so maybe the guidelines are different now

@@kelvindoesarchitecture6793 Thats okay thx, I have another question - On your map of las vegas slides how did you photoshop your drawings so precisely. Especially the part where you layered the drawings on two different coloured backgrounds. Hmm personally I'm missing the architecture in this, there's not a single actual space or building, it might sound ignorant but for me personally it's all very abstract and mostly art related. I have seen this before and I guess it has to do with the different styles of schools and degrees. I guess here in Italy we take a much more practical and applicable approach. I liked your portfolio's composition and layout though, the art is also good but I feel like most of these projects are a really good start and research, and initial concept. But I'm missing how that was applied to become an actual phisical structure.

I’m planning on doing an architecture-based postgrad at UCL and am still putting together a portfolio but the issue is, I don’t have a strong art background (so no drawings from school etc) and I’m not a particularly good artist to begin with, so I’m stuck 🥲
Definitely too late to respond to this, but yeah what makes you interested in architecture? i think just use whatever medium you want to showcase that interest, film, photo, clay model, food, essay. I don't think you NEED a art background for it, but i do think it would be good to have the fundamentals of some form of design method (drawing, 3d modelling...) since you will eventually be designing

Wait I'm confused is this your portfolio to apply to college... As in you made this in highschool? Or is this your portfolio after two years of architecture
Yep I deffo ain't going to get in , 😭. I ain't very smart I doing 2 Alevel (art and physics) and 1 equivalent, ocr cambridge technicals level 3 diploma(IT), , I'm good at art but I feel like I might flop physics 😭, and IT is easy but do they accept all level 3 qualifications which means it equivalent to A level?? 😭😭😭 , I feel I would recieve A 4 art C/D 4 physics and a D (distinction) (equivalent to an A ) in IT,, but yh 😩😩😩 rah I really wrote a whole essay 😅
Ucl required 75 average for my case(international student from Canada) and mine was higher (90+) but its not that important as long as u pass the requirement :)
Yeah they do have Global Master Scholarships, don't think it fully funds the entire study but yeah it's also not easy to get from my personal experience! It's not marit based it's need based
Oh yeah, it depends on the school but generally you can find time for other commitments like societies and part times but obviously you will be pretty busy after that :)
Hi Kelvin, how are you, I would like to ask you that in London, do the architecture student can do drafting related job or render or studies basis that will open a chance to make money that helps them to provide their universities expenses and studies too alongside their daily expenses, brother is it possible find and do a job alongside architecture studies that helps to provide all expences, thanks, brother.
Hey, to fully fund your studies? I think it's doable if you are paying local fees, you can find jobs at local firms for sure given you have the technical skills or experience. But if you're paying international fees then it's kind of impossible to fully fund it with part-time jobs...
Hello ! I'm french and I would like to apply to Bartlett but I'm a little lost in the process, It's a lot different than in France 😅. So, I'm still in high school (Year 13) and I will apply for a bachelor. Do I need to do the same kind of Portfolio you did ? Because I saw that I need to do an assessment task but not really a portfolio. It would help me a lot if you answer 😅
Just checked, in the "Selection" section it says"Submissions will then be assessed and successful applicants are invited for an interview to present a portfolio of work."
Your portfolio was so good and your advice was very helpful. The layout was also something I would aim towards as I am applying to unis this year, I was wondering what software you used to make a professional-style, digital portfolio? and how you managed to import your sketches and studies to make them look seamless with the background slides? Thanks, Vivek
Vivek Shah tysm! So for the layout i used InDesign, which will take care of all ur future portfolio making throughout undergrads. You want to keep your layout as simple as possible (i kinda over-did it), because your works should be the main focus. Theres alot of InDesign tutorials out there so learning the basics shouldn’t be a problem(all u need is the basics). The most useful feature for me is the guidelines which you can use to keep your layout consistent so your entire portfolio can look cohesive! For examples of good layouts, just search up some professional architecture portfolio online, or use mine as a reference. Since my pages are mostly white, i simply scanned my sketches, and since they were done on white paper, no blending is needed :) and for paintings and pieces that you can’t scan, you can check out the tutorials on yt about photographing paintings/models. Hope this helps!
Can be anything! Just show your love for what you do! Would be good to have some variation to show different skills but yeah i think different is good, as long as you are really well-versed at the medium you choose.

Is the rule bendable? pls reply i need to submit my portfolio tomorrow. thanks!
i think rules were probably different back then, i definitely submitted according to the requirements haha don't test them!
Hello. How was your experience with the precis? Do you have any tips for it?
Wait I'm confused is this your portfolio to apply to college... As in you made this in highschool? Or is this your portfolio after two years of architecture
This was my highschool portfolio for apply to uni!
hi .. your high school portfolio is better than some uni graduating students - with your very creative conceptual mind, you should have gone to AA ..
Grades really don't matter much for UCL lol, it's probably too late for me to say this but hope you did well anyways! (+there is always masters)
heyyyyyy awseome work...wanted to ask if the sophomore year grades matter much??
Nope, not much at all lol. I think it was like 10-20% of your overall grades. So maybe first year 10%, second year 30%, third year 50% (I think)
Heyy could you suggest some apps or platforms you used in making your digital portfolio?
Illustrator for drawing 2d things digitally, photoshop for making layouts or images or collages, InDesign for laying out portfolio!
Hey, I was wondering about the grades you had when applying for these unis, do you think it plays a large role in the application?
Ucl required 75 average for my case(international student from Canada) and mine was higher (90+) but its not that important as long as u pass the requirement :)
What was the font size you used in your intro page?
Hello! Just a question, did you transfer to UCL for your second year? Or you did your 1st year there as well?
I started at bartlett in first year :)
Ahhh just curious do you know if they accept 2nd year transfers? 😄
@@taurossstudio i don't think so lol, unfortunately
Big peterdraws fan here woohoooo
hahahahahahha i love him!! so cool to see him do architecture too!!
Excellent
Hi, a lil bit out of topic but what types of laptop do you recommend for architecture ?
A laptop is enough for 1st and 2nd year like a decently high performance laptop and i now use a pc:)
may I ask what website or app you used to make the portfolio and the drawings?
InDesign for portfolio and Illustrator for all the digital drawings!
On a scale of 1 - 10 . How hard do u think learning Architect is??
Oh boy, its a 10 sometimes but i would give it an 8 on average :)
it's really impossible for international students to finance studies at UCL without aids. Do they give full scholarships to international students?
Yeah they do have Global Master Scholarships, don't think it fully funds the entire study but yeah it's also not easy to get from my personal experience! It's not marit based it's need based
Yo, when did you apply? After AS or after finishing A levels
I didn't do A levels, was in the AP system since i applied from Canada
Hey dude. I have a question.
Do Architect students have spare time in which they can Learn some other courses and do some part time job??
Oh yeah, it depends on the school but generally you can find time for other commitments like societies and part times but obviously you will be pretty busy after that :)
anyone know what software was used to make the portfolio?
InDesign
The one you present on your video was also to apply for a bachelor ?

Did you get any scholarships? How do you manage ur finances for UCL cause their tuition for international students is crazy expensive
It is crazy expensive... i unfortunately did not get scholarships (it's not easy to get :/) but i've tried time and time again
what subjects did you do?
Data management, calculus, visual arts, communication technology, computer science, english, physics!
Cheers bro
cheers g
Your portfolio was so good and your advice was very helpful. The layout was also something I would aim towards as I am applying to unis this year, I was wondering what software you used to make a professional-style, digital portfolio? and how you managed to import your sketches and studies to make them look seamless with the background slides?
Thanks,
Vivek
Bomb Portfolio!!!!
Ty!
Does your portfolio for an architecture course have to be architectural or can it be like fine art based or like photography etc
Can be anything! Just show your love for what you do! Would be good to have some variation to show different skills but yeah i think different is good, as long as you are really well-versed at the medium you choose.
how u get all ur photos and sketches so clean on the page
Check out the other vid lol
wait how are you born in 2000 ifkdjskjak the way we're on the same age and I'm a third year architecture student in USC (University of San Carlos) in the Philippines
undergrad :
Really? i just finished second year at this point... maybe you skipped a year sometime in school (you must be smart brother!)
My guy did you actually do tis for Uni or for a masters degreee fam, :(. Buts the portfolio is awesome
For undergrad my guy😅
Great work.. 😬
Thank you!
Hellooo dude how are you ? Can I get into Bartlett undergrad architecture program with full financial aid without any exam if I develop impressive portfolio ?
Sorry dude i don’t think i know enough to answer ur question but i’m sure the school can help u out, just shoot them an email :)
ay shit haha you weren't kidding about it being undefeated
