    Or you can cut some strips of metal flashing about 5" wide and use roofing nails and fasten them well to the 2x4, leaving about 12" or so of the metal extending past the 2x4 up the slope, and fasten it well to the roof. Then you can shingle over those pieces of metal, and when the roof is done, you can score the metal with a knife as deep as you need to, flush with the bottom tab of the shingle, break it off, and glue it so the shingle will seal down, and you're done.

    Clicked on your video because the roof staging brackets(aka jacks) in the thumbnail looked like some I have. Video shows how to attach a temporary sticker without them. We only nailed a 2x to old roofs in roof overs to hold stock. Have 3 sets of brackets including my grandfathers that have the Stanley sweet hart label. With brackets you just peen the nails down after removal. Wouldn’t have bothered with staging on that low a pitch. Must have been hot that day as your laminated shingles were floppy. 3 tabs are easier to weave in but mostly gone.

    Forgot to do the good ole step flashing toe board. Grab a piece of step flashing, hammer it flat, then put a few nails to hold it to the board, then nail it to the shingle where it covers it, when you're done just cut the step out with snips

      @@MayonR yeah exactly, that or like a backpan for a skylight or something like that.
      I usually keep all the unused metal from jobs because either can simply use a brake or hand roller I bought to make up some custom pieces of metal if needed on jobs

    I mean, that works, or you could just be a professional and go buy some friggin roof jacks and do it the normal way...

    • @MayonR
      @MayonR 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's a good trick. I do roof jacks and for small steps for little areas, instead of a whole roof jack assembly, I will fashion a short piece to my liking and use flattened drip edge lengths. Two per wood, 5 nails 2 up 2 down 1 in center per side and stick it up to shingle over. When done I just cut the metal so it isn't seen.

    You don't even need this on this roof...... show me this on a 12/12 roof where the shingles slide off as soon as you let go

    • @MayonR
      @MayonR 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That wasn't the point. It's the perfect roof to make a quick demonstration.

    • @tomd6588
      @tomd6588 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@MayonR no the point is that you can't do that on a steep roof where you actually NEED a roof jack...... On that shallow roof done in the video the nail gun even slid down when it was set down .... On a steep roof it's on the ground as well as your roof jack and the loose shingles set in place dry.........
