Buy Maruti Suzuki Fronx Or Kia Sonet?

  • The Maruti Suzuki Fronx might be Baleno-based but it enters a space where the Kia Sonet has reset parameters by creating a persuasive, premium experience. If the Maruti Brezza was the normal SUV, then the task of being the cool and premium SUV falls to the Fronx. Kartikeya's working out how to choose between the Kia Sonet and the Maruti Suzuki Fronx on Balance.

      Guys, what about fronx vs exter.
      I'm considering the 1.2 AMT of both.
      The roads I drive on are usually very good, even when broken, they're the kind where an alto can drive easily.

    "The Fronx has UV cut glass while the Sonet has a sun-roof."
    Everything about these cars sort of fits in the image the above statement creates, isn't it ?
    The Kia pampers you while the Maruti helps you to take on the realities in a reasonably sublime manner, both true to their brand identities 😊

      Fronx has extremely bad AMT which Sonet has much more mechanically superior DCT. UV cut glass is great add on but for such a small glass house doesn't make much difference.

      @@siddharthgoyal4008TCs are way better in terms of reliability, maintenance and efficiency! Maruti uses it because it is the goal of the brand to make their cars highly efficient and reliable. Even BMW uses the TC not DCT so do you mean that BMW making low powered cars??? And I can say that the best TC in the world is the BMWs! They are using TCs because they are less problematic than DCTs.

    Maruti has found a sub segment within the subcompact crossover category with the Fronx.They increased the price of Brezza and made it almost look like a Creta rival..And within that gap they brought the Fronx..This is a great business strategy..However the VFM thing that once we associated with Marutis is no more there.Jimny is just an example.

    We had a swift vdi for almost 13 years and then a couple of months back we bought the Kia Sonet HTX 1.5 Diesel imt.
    I test drove the venue, nexon and sonet on the same day and I somehow liked sonet. During the TD the advisor took me to an empty stretch and asked me to just push it and the way it behaved made me consider it the next moment. The braking power was also very good considering the car can reach 80-90 kmph without any effort and can stop without any hassle with just a slight touch. The suspension is a little stiff and better suited for highway driving and on the broken roads it absorbs fine but if the roads become little harsh, you might feel that stiffness of the suspension.
    The interiors and the cabin feel premium and the infotainment system and steering mounted controls are very responsive.
    I haven’t test drove fronx but it too has its own set of pros and cons.
    It totally depends upon you on what you choose, choose the one which you love and you will be happy for the rest of your life.

    Just bought the Sonet htx 1.0T dct over the 1.5T AT torque converter Fronx.
    As the video title i was confused too between the two.
    On road price of 15.4-15.7. Vs the sonets was high. Fronx feels claustrophobic and the moment you drive the sonet dct in power mode you’ll feel like yess- i love driving!! Have done only one 200 km highway ride and on good roads it flows and cabin noise is bare minimum which was my most important criteria. Everything gives you the feeling that you’ve bought a car of a higher segment.
    Sonets rear camera is so good even at night that the lack of 360camera wont be felt. Yes it suffers in mileage and my car is too new to comment on that. I am a motorcyclist but a car is not like a motorcycle and so the cabin matters infact more so if you are in a city like Mumbai. And hence you’ll see a lot more sonets on road than the Fronx.. test drive but im sure 80% of buyers wil buy the Sonet. Its value for money like the first gen ktms.

    Great content. Could you elaborate about the reason for the low end lag in the 1.0 tgdi engine of the sonet which you mentioned. You said kia traded low end grunt to more horse power. More HP should ideally translated to better low end acceleration right?

    • @motorinc
      @motorinc  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      No, more hp comes at the cost of low-end performance most often. Turbo lag makes this feel even worse

    • @c04-rhikbanerjee55
      @c04-rhikbanerjee55 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hello there! I would try to answer this question with some knowledge that I know. So basically power (hp or kW) is a product of torque (Nm) and rpm (strictly speaking rad/s). Now if an engine produces more torque or the peak torque at higher rpms, it gives out more power, so the high end power is better (for instance, check out the specs of smaller sport bikes like the r15, they go to crazy high rpms with limited torque, which comes at higher rpms hence more power).
      Now as far as turbos are concerned, it has a turbine and a compressor. The exhaust pressure of the engine usually spools up the turbine which then drives the compressor to send that sweet compressed air to your engine cylinder and makes all that mighty extra power. As I pointed out, “exhaust pressure” at lower rpms, that pressure is generally low and slowly builds up as the rpm rises up, which then drives up the compressor easily and boom, extra torque, so extra power. So ig that’s the issue here with Sonet, and it is kinda common in many cars, like the Fiat diesel engines used in older marutis (like the ciaz, ertiga etc.). I had seen an autocar review where they pointed out that the car didn’t really produce any power below 2000 rpm, but the same engine with reduced power performed better on the smaller cars like the swift. Ig that’s the disadvantage of slapping just a bigger turbo.
      I think for the fronx here, they used a smaller turbo, where it is easier to drive the turbine even with smaller exhaust pressure at lower rpms and hence the lag is much lower, and compiled with the lower weight of the car (I guess) it is easier to propel the car forward. But yeah, the peak power produced is lower.
      That’s just my view, my understanding of the concept. I am open to any corrections to whatever I have stated, cuz this concept really seems interesting. :)

    The thing all the reviewers miss are the low variants, talking about engines on higher specs only. We have a Sonet with naturally aspirated 1.2 engine. It feels like it is missing power below 2000 RPM, and above 2000 it gives low mileage compared to the other car we have, which is Swift. The Swift's engine feels a lot peppier at low RPMs and the mileage is amazing but yep, the build quality is bad.
    Suggestion: talk about lower variant's engines and compromises as well.
