Totally agree with @MerKaBa Rebbie and La Toya tried hard, but they failed. Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, Marlon and Randy were more like backup dancers and singers for Michael tbeh (to be extremely honest)
I was at this concert. I'm was like 15 years and old my family surprised me with these tickets. Yo.... I.... lost my mind. I could not believe I was that close to her & the energy was OFF the chain. What a wonderful woman & time.
I love this video. Everybody enjoying themselves and dancing. In “all” ages. Some dressed in t-shirts others in tuxedos. People of all colors in unity. With a big smile on their faces. Such a great vibe! ❤❤❤ Can’t we all just have this energy everyday.... Please and thank you. 😂
Youngsters..this is what true talent looks like...and she didn't need to be nearly naked to be sexy. She was In Control. She never was in her brother's shadows. She made her own way.
The Jackson family is just gifted period......this is just flawless...I'm in awe......Janet is just gorgeous in voice, looks and dance moves.....I miss her brother but I'm grateful that Janet still kicks butt
I was. It was recorded at the Met Center in the Twin Cities in I think 1988. I must have been 13. I was in St.Josephs Home for Children and Janet gave us a bunch of free tickets. Thanks Janet. Your awesome.....
Janet is one the best singer/dancer to ever exist. Black Cat is fire, the energy it produces, captures your body and you can't help but move to the beat. Before you know it, you feel enraptured by it caught up in its grasp. You feel powerful and you feel like you can take on anything. And when they hit you with that guitar solo. You are headbanging to it. Janet this one of the best songs you have ever done. Female singers take notes this how its done.
It wasn't the lyrics that got me into this song. It's was her voice and the electric guitars that got to my soul and the fact that its Janet Jackson❤❤I wish she would've did like a whole rock album because she rocked the hell outta this song😎
Do u know the original guitar solo of this song was played by nuno bettencourt of EXTREME if you all dont believe me look up nuno bettencourt early interviews and hear it from him
She probably wishes that too. It's been said for years that Janet (and to a lesser extent, Michael) would've rather pursued hard rock/metal if left to their own devices. But being part of a pop establishment like the Jackson family your path is somewhat predetermined, especially with Michael and Janet being the youngest.
July 24, 1990 saw Janet perform this on this tour in Indy's Market Square Arena. Awesome show by a great talent. Ah, the good old days! I remember sitting by a little girl that was lucky enough to get backstage to meet Janet and all she could talk about was how beautiful Janet's hair was.
I was at her concert at the Tacoma Dome when this video was premiered. They showed it right before Janet started her show; they said they had just finished it that day and we were the first people to see it. The place went wild. I love this song so much, I wish she had done more rock songs.
BJMallory congratulations 🎉!! I attended her concert at Joe Louis Arena and I would’ve lost my mind if that happened. You were blessed to experience the video premiere of a classic song. Nevertheless, it was a great concert and I was blessed to be able to attend. I do agree that she should’ve attempted more rock songs but she still can if she wants.
@@zairesyoutube and not to mention that at the mtv awards when she performed the song. she ripped off her shirt and showed off them hooters while wearing that bra. a lot of young boys back then had their balls dropped that day.

@candirenee I'm very impressed by your comparison between Joan Jett and Janet Jackson. Here's something for you to think about, could you imagine them teaming up.
I am 42 and I could literally overdose on nostalgia. The 90's was the last decade where there was still an innocence to life. They had the best movies, tv, and music. I sometimes sit and just close my eyes and go back to this time on my mind...just immersing myself in all the memories. I cry a lot just yearning for those days that I can never get back. The world is such a 💩show today and I just wish I could be a kid again. Just wanting to relive all those precious times 😢. I thank God for TH-cam...one of the only online platforms I really look at. Janet looks so much like brother Michael in this video. The eyes, the smile, the snarl, etc. Both are fantastic dancers, singer, and all around entertainers. Both are spellbinding to watch. Never got to see Michael in concert but I did see Janet and she was absolutely awesome. They are such a talented family.
This is one of the most amazing things ever... Like ever.... Like in the history of the entertainment business. No one, Absolutely no one, compares to Queen Janet
I was a metal head back in the early 90’s. There were Metallica fans flipping when she released this. There was just no denying her talent. Incredible artist and so versatile.
Yeah just imagine Janet and Metallica teaming up to perform this song, that would be something. What do you think? Just like you I'm also a metal head and have been for over 25 years.
I mean, the guy who produced this video version of Black Cat just so happened to be Michael Wagener, the guy who mixed Master of Puppets so... you're really not far off :P
I was a senior in high school when this song was popular. Even though I listened to a lot of Metallica and Motley Crue, I still loved artists like Janet and Madonna. Rhythm Nation is still my favorite of Janet's and Black Cat ROCKS! . She's a true legend and her documentary was amazing.
@@davidhabert Considering the attitude of the band members back then, I'm pretty sure the last thing they wanted was to have something to do with a pop star as much as they respected her. 32 years ago today, “Black Cat” by Janet Jackson hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, making her the FIRST artist to achieve two #1s in the 1990s! The song received a GRAMMY nom for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance & won a BMI Pop Award for Most Played Song!
SAW THIS CONCERT April 22nd, 1990, I was the fourth person in very SHORT LINE at TOWER RECORDS SUNSET in Hollywood. FRONT ROW TICKETS for $28.50... Janet looked exactly as this video in person. Beyonce has nothing on Janet when it comes to style, originality, and entertainment. IT WAS the BEST CONCERT SHE EVER GAVE !!!❤❤🫡
For the album version of "Black Cat", most of the guitar lines were played by Dave Barry, including the intro, main riff, and a memorable thematic solo. Barry consequently became Janet Jackson's longtime touring guitarist. John McClain, A&R executive for A&M Records, provided the slide-guitar part, while Jellybean Johnson played the funky guitar part that punctuates the album version of the song. Although credited on the album, Jesse Johnson provided a guitar solo that was not used for the album version, but is featured in each of the remixes. The video edit of "Black Cat" features Nuno Bettencourt of Extreme on rhythm guitar, while the 'Guitar Mix' features Vernon Reid of Living Colour.
black ct was my favorite childhood song , this tape was on fire from me repeating this shit over and over lol... thank god i grew up with janet jackson ...
I remember her performance of this at the 1990 MTV VMAs and fell in love with it. Less than 2 months later it went to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and marked the first time that any artist had #1 hits from the same album a year apart (she topped that when Love Will Never Do Without You hit #1 in early 1991 giving her #1s fro the same album in 3 different calendar years. Rhythm Nation 1814 is imho a very underrated album -- 4 #1s, 6 top 2s and 7 top 5s (she likely would have had an 8th top 5 if A & M had released State of the World as a single).
One thing I've been impressed by in music is Janet Jackson's versatility. This song was a departure from her previous work and she killed it on this metal track. The late Lemmy loved it so much that he wanted to record his own version with Jackson, but his label, Sony Records, nixed that potential collabo.
This is my favorite video because I'm in it! :) Right after the guitar solo. I called in sick to work to go to the video shoot at the old Met Center (where the Mall of America currently stands). It was such a fun experience to be there and all the anticipation waiting for the video to come out to see if we had made it in. I did, my friend did not and she was pissed! 😂

Alise Thompson Both of them aren't very musical. And Madonna would totally kick ass in dancing. She practices dance moves, old and new, for hours every day and she's 7 years older than Janet.
+Phillip Daniel Janet has proved in the past as well recently in her concerts that she can dance stronger, sharper and smoother even if she's 7 years younger than Madonna. Watching her technical dance routines in her music videos and concert footage is more than enough proof she's way ahead of the rest. Now, don't get me wrong, I was also a huge Madonna fan growing up and still to this day listen to her past work. Janet was and still is a force to be wreckon with when it comes to her dance skills. ,
+Phillip Daniel uh, no. Madonna may have practiced dance moves, ect...but, in her videos, as well as in concert, she has YET to display much of it. Janet trained under THE BEST performer/dancer there ever was, this guy...hmmm, what's his name.....wait for it...MICHAEL JACKSON......get over it...Janet ...not only is superior to Madonna in performing, she also writes many great tunes.....
Because Janet and Michael have a lot of the same on mannerism I sometimes feel like I'm watching Michael from the Dirty Diana or Another Part of Me video. It's also because of the outfits. Two amazing sibling performers.
+Letissia Scott Especially during this time. MJ wore the same pants, shirt and boots and his hair was longer. Couple that with those "looks" and snaps of the head and every other body part, it really is like watching either one of them. Janet brought the house down with her first albums.
+Letissia Scott I agree, I know in an interview--not sure which of them said it--but they said they often felt like they were in a playful competition together with each other
There will never be another Janet Jackson. She was completely unique. It's a gift. Even Beyonce, as good as she is, will never measure up to Janet Jackson. Because Janet was not only a great singer and performer, she was also a good actress. Which Beyonce isn't good at. Acting. That's why she will never measure up.
The smile on my face right now....with the hundreds of times ive seen this I never noticed how the audience and crowds are JAMMIN'...old , young, black & white. What great memories :-)
"Black cat, nine lives, short days, long nights, livin' on the edge, not afraid to die. Heart beat, real strong. But not, for long, better watch your step, or you're gonna to die."
Raise your hands in the air if you were a kid in the 80s and 90s and were late for school at times because you just couldn't leave MTV alone. Or recorded her videos on the VCR and hitting pause and rewind trying endlessly to replicate the choreography and still failed. Personally for me, Control & Rhythm Nation 1814 are my two favorite Janet Jackson albums. Janet Jackson was In Control of both of these masterpiece albums.

From the very first time I ever heard this song I always thought more rock n roll was her calling. I wish she would’ve done many more like this
She liked listening to music from Mötley Crüe and Def Leppard and I think that came through in this song.

Yeah she did. Killed it 😁
Nuno Bettencourt from Extreme recorded the guitars in this track.
Nuno did guitar wonder why they didn’t highlight him
Do u know the original guitar solo of this song was played by nuno bettencourt of EXTREME if you all dont believe me look up nuno bettencourt early interviews and hear it from him
She probably wishes that too. It's been said for years that Janet (and to a lesser extent, Michael) would've rather pursued hard rock/metal if left to their own devices. But being part of a pop establishment like the Jackson family your path is somewhat predetermined, especially with Michael and Janet being the youngest.

Written and Produced by Janet Jackson... Don't undermine. Her musical talent..
And Jellybean Johnson
Yes he shared production on this gem, but this was pretty much all Janet she wrote song independently and she wrote guitar line on her own....
Dustin Jackson That's why Janet is a true entertainer
Yes indeed
Joshua McDowell Yep, Jellybean Johnson is responsible for the guitar solo. Everything else was Janet.
She did it all fully clothed and without shocking lyrics. Just pure talent.

Heard this song on the radio. Shazamed it straight away. Couldn’t believe it was Janet Jackson! This song is unreal
I love the kid at 1:53 wearing a Beat It jacket. Nice little shout-out to her brother who also dabbled in rock.
I love her dance music, and her more pop songs, but Janet Jackson has a voice for rock n roll - I would love for her to put out an all rock album before she retires.
Man, my first concert was the Rhythm Nation Tour back in 1990..I was 4 years old. Black Cat was my JAM. I still remember her on stage and I stood on my chair while my mom held my waist and I got DOWN man...I was jammin. Civic Arena was bumpin that night!
Janet looks so much like brother Michael in this video. The eyes, the smile, the snarl, etc. Both are fantastic dancers, singer, and all around entertainers. Both are spellbinding to watch. Never got to see Michael in concert but I did see Janet and she was absolutely awesome. They are such a talented family.
was it that she looked like him or he started to look like her? he did get a bit of work done.

In the late 90s tho, they 100% would've done it and i'm pretty sure that would've been a pretty iconic moment in music history.
One very famous rock/metal vocalist who absolutely loved this song was Lemmy (god rest his soul) from Motorhead and even wanted to do a duet with Janet. His record company said NO.

Back then, music videos weren't as nasty and rauchy like nowadays, Janet Jackson had one of the best music videos ever.

To get what you need
So full of promises
That you never keep
Don't you tell yourself
That it's okay
Sick and tired of
All of your games
And you want me to stay
