    great video! My son bent his shift shaft and i was able to use this video as a reference to replace the shaft. everyone at the track told me i would have to split the case, which is something i have no problem doing, but i rather wait till after the season for something like that. the longest part of me replacing the shaft, is waiting for it to come in the mail.

      Im having somewhat of the same issue with my yz 125 I’m thinking it’s my shift shaft but I’m not 100 percent sure. Was your sons gear shifter really loose almost like it was stripped out ?

  • @rwcasto
    @rwcasto 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Great content man! Soon as you starting describing the issue I new it was that detent. On the 2006 wr450 they used a bearing on the detent instead of a steel wheel and when the bearing goers the same thing happens- it will pop in and out of 2nd usually under a load and extremely hard to find neutral. My fix was to get rid of that bearing detent and go with one out of a YZ 450 with the YZ spring. Good news man- I got my bike back together using your case splitting trick- fired it up today after a full rebuild!

      Nice!!! Always a good feeling to hear that first start up!. Yeah I didnt guess that one right but now I know how they act when the detent is not working right. I think the 2014 yz450 had the same issue with the bearings coming apart on that and they went to a solid roller in 2015?

    Yamaha Issued a Recall a month after you posted this video. Bulletin # M2022-008R They have a updated spring design that fixes the issue. All applicable gaskets and seals are replaced during the repair. If anyone with a 22' YZ125 has this shifting issue please contact your local Yamaha dealer and have them get your recall parts ordered and a appointment made for the repair.

    I have a 2020 yz125 and heard rattling while in neutral coming from the gearbox/primary gear area.
    Turns out the oil check bolt only holds 275 ml of oil and the reccomended amount is 660 ml.

      Hello. Thanks! I too have found the oil check bolt is very low on the YZ125. I just pour in the proper amount of 660ml. The rattling was probably transmission gears. They can even squeal if the level is low. If everything sounds good and works good once the oil level is up at 660ml I would run her and just keep an eye on her for a little bit.

  • @techtipfromgaragechick13
    @techtipfromgaragechick13 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    So I think mine is having this problem. Sometimes it’s fine other times it’s not. New shift shaft and lever, clutch all in spec nothing missing, new cable too. Today I was looking at it after this video and noticed it has a lot of up and down play before it actually shifts. Sometimes it works sometimes it don’t. Even with my hand off the bike. So thinking it’s a loose spring they are probably all from 2002 so definitely old. But would it be this one your messing with or the spring on the shift shaft? Or both? Or is there just really that much play. Talking .5 “ maybe 1” yz 125

    • @UpAllNight91
      @UpAllNight91  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      What you are describing surely sounds like your shift detent spring either broke or became unlatched. I would surely remove the clutch cover and inspect all of that. I wouldnt even ride the bike again before checking it because it can cause transmission damage after a while. Its easy to remove the cover and take a look,

    my bike runs fine but I have a false neutral when I hit 4th gear and my shift spring and detent are fine is it possible that I have a bent shift fork

    • @UpAllNight91
      @UpAllNight91  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If you hit false neutral in 4ths once in a blue moon it could just be from lazy shifting but if its happening all the time then its most likely worn dogs and cogs on that gear set. You would need to replace that gear set and fork, as well as inspect the shift drum for wear. I have a 2022 YZ125 transmission repair video up if you are interested check my videos. @@UpAllNight91 hey it’s super cool that you answered. Thanks and I think your video was top notch . I had not subscribed yet but I will now.
      While I’m thinking about it I’ll ask you this for a ballpark opinion I have this 93 YZ 125 that I bought it didn’t run it was a compression issue I found out so I put a new top end in. And while I’m no stranger two motors I’m a complete stranger to motorcycle engines. To my surprise the thing worked and it runs awesome but when I started to ride it I could only get to third gear and it would not shift any further. Shops in California are either outrageously priced or they seem to not be interested in doing the work if it is going to be involved like a transmission is. I mean I get it (deep motor work be it a motorcycle or an automotive anything from head gaskets to rod bearings cranks is a pain in the ass) from what I understand splitting cases sucksTwo shops told me I was screwed without looking into it just by trying to ride it- they claimed to try riding it . But both shops actually said they couldn’t get it to go into gear at all which just told me that they are lame. So moving on After running this thing up and down my street a couple times I was able to get it in the fourth and the fifth gear but not easily however it seems the higher the RPM the easier it did shift (meaning that if I had low RPMs I couldn’t get it from 3rd to 4th and definitely not 4th to 5th) that’s where I’m at now I have not reached sixth yet. Does that sound familiar at all ?have you heard of this problem?

      Comment is 4 months old, but just in case you never did anything about it, the '05 was a new engine (first year aluminum frame) and it had a problematic shift stopper that used a ball bearing that would come apart. Same story for '06 models. I have an '05 and it still had the original shift stopper, and the bearing had already come apart before I bought it, and yes it was difficult to shift.
      They updated the shift stopper in '07 to no longer use a ball bearing. The rest of the engine was the same from '05-'21. It's only $18 shipped for the updated shift stopper, and you can't even buy the old style anymore.
      Part numbers:
      1C3-18140-10-00 Shift stopper ($18 shipped)
      1C3-15462-00-00 Right side crankcase cover gasket ($10 shipped)
      Very easy to change and only takes about an hour. I would flush it with fresh oil while I had the cover off, then tilt the bike over to dump out the fresh oil and any pieces that might still be in there. Mine still had ball bearing pieces in the oil when I disassembled everything, and I was lucky that none of the gears got damaged from any metal bits getting caught between teeth, but many people haven't been as lucky. Fingers crossed yours are a-ok.

    I have the same issue with Yamaha xsr125 2022, unfortunately local dealer do not care about the warranty and trying to cash me for replacement, is there anybody with xsr125 with the same issue?

    Hey bud. I am reassembling a yfz450 and having an issue with the clutch push bearing not touching pressure plate while clutch perch in rest position. I have all plates in , I’ve tried using the smaller friction plate with spring washers and also taking them out and using full plate instead. There is a gap between the push bearing and pressure plate. I replaced the push rod, ball bearing and throw out bearing. Anything I’m missing ??

      @UpAllNight91  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello. Are you missing the hug ball bearing that goes in there. I did a video on this, here is a link and if you slide it to the 18 minute mark thats where I get into the clutch th-cam.com/video/U7B3JMOy8sk/w-d-xo.html

      @@UpAllNight91 I have the ball bearing in there. I’m not sure but it may be an issue with the wiseco basket. The back side showed two illustrations, one uses the spring plate I call it that goes on first but the other one shows not using this. I don’t know but that may be why I have the gap issue. I need to see if that throw out bearing sits all the way back - bottoms out or if it’s suppose to stick out some. Mine bottoms out

    My 2022 has 8 hours on it. Had this issue within the first 2 hours, dealer "fixed it", got it back, rode an hour or so and realized the case was cracked from the inside out from something coming lose and being forced into the case from the inside, they "fixed" that, THEN, I changed the oil and it was silver with lots of metal in the oil, changed again and rode and it still has silver and magnetic fillings all in the oil, dealer says that's normal (it's not or it would of done that before they worked on it also but it didn't) and now they refuse to work on it even though they did not repair it properly under the warranty. I'm just going to ride it until the transmission seized I guess lol

    • @UpAllNight91
      @UpAllNight91  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dang man. That sucks. I mean some oil glitter is kinda normal while the transmission is breaking in but. I would at least run a drain plug magnet to catch it and keep track

    • @tcoll1233
      @tcoll1233 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @UpAllNight91 after changing the oil after 3 rides, each time I rode the oil looks much better, there are still fine metal but less so that might be good

    • @UpAllNight91

      That's good. I would get a magnetic drain plug to help collect the normal shedding and also keep track

      Yes I put the washer on the shift shaft off camera out of habit. So when I slide the shift shaft back in the motor the washer was already on it.

    Who tf are you to say 10 hours is to long, how much money do you have bro, a bottle of oil is 10 dollars. I’ve gone 200 hours on stock clutch still works new changed oil 4 or 5 times. No need to change 10 hours unless your James stewart and have that kind of money. Come on man don’t harp on the dude for not having it like that

    • @UpAllNight91
      @UpAllNight91  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Really just depends on the rider. On my wifes YZ125 I can run the oil for 10 hours in her bike no problem. But on my YZ125 by 3 hours the oil is nasty dirty and surely due. It just depends on how hard the rider rides the bike and how heavy the clutch is used.
