      The Chinese are actually some of the biggest brand snobs in the world, and Tesla built quite a bit of brand image for itself, as has the German BBAP brands, and even Japanese brands such as Toyota/Honda. Although that brand snobbery has been changing as of late, especially amongst more younger consumers.

    I looked at a Model Y back in 2020, I couldn’t do it. It didn’t make sense to me, the price for the car with all the mismatched paint on bumper and body, misaligned panels, huge panel gaps, harsh ride, missing physical controls and interior parts not assembled properly (could put your hand in the liner that was not flush with the roof on one side and feel the wires inside). Checked others on the lot and they all had similar issues, even the just delivered cars that came off the truck. The Model S was the same, I was shocked people accepted this. I wouldn’t call Tesla the gold standard, they are improving but, it’s a rip off to de-content the cars and charge more for them. Today, they have a lot more competition, which will eventually shift sales to better equipped vehicles.

    Nice review, I’ve driven the NioEL6 for the last year (fantastic vehicle) and earlier today I notice ONVO have opened a store in my local Beijing mall. I spent 15 minutes looking at the L60 and have to say I was impressed, better value for money than the model Y (which I considered buying before I went for the ES6). On my drive home from the mall I followed a brand new (unregistered) model Y and at the traffic lights I could see that panel gap on the tailgate differed significantly between left and right side (~10mm v ~6mm) if it was my car I would have rejected it.

    I love this car. It’s a great blend of the Model Y, Polestar 4, and even the BMW X4. However, in France, the main issues will likely be the price and the driver assistance system. None of the Chinese manufacturers have yet developed a driver assistance system that works well on European roads. Another concern is the excessive alerts and notifications. In Europe, driving is more relaxed, often with lively kids in the car, not just quiet parents. But I’m confident that all brands will adapt their systems to fit the market, just like they adjust car suspensions

    • @DailyBeatings
      @DailyBeatings 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Battery swap is a good way to amortize the cost of the battery if you plan on changing your vehicle every 4-5 years. If you plan on keeping the vehicle longer then purchasing the battery and having the swap option is preferable since the total cost will be lower and a battery upgrade is always available. Either way it's a win-win for the consumer.

      I think one misperception you might get from this video is that the Model Y has been like this since 2020. I don't think that's true, and Tesla has been doing incremental improvements on its most important model over the years, even if the sheetmetal hasn't changed. That would extend to constantly trying to improve the Y's efficiency. So with that in mind, the updated Y will certainly bring some cosmetic changes, and probably remove stuff like the stalks (boooo!!!!), but I wouldn't expect some sort of quantum increase in efficiency.

    Might be a stupid question, have you verified the speed with GPS on both cars? Cause the speedometer usually doesn't show the real speed.

    Few more talking points -- 1. Lack of 120/240V sockets in Tesla M3Y it brings a lot of problems with unsafe 12V equipment and invertors. Rivals Wins for now. 2. Heat Pump performance in complex situations/climate. Tesla Wins.

    Big issue here is believing the car on its energy efficiency figures. Bjorn Nyland for example doesn’t. He literally exhausts the battery and connects up his own metering equipment, then comments on how accurate the cars reporting is. Tesla is really quite accurate. Other brands can be hilariously off. I think it the Nio EL6, it was just a range count down / fixed calculation, rather than computing based on real world conditions.

    Love my 2024 Model Y LR. Backed NIO in the stock market when they were at about 60/share. Dollar cost averaged, but they kept tanking. Had to bail earlier this year. I wish them well though, they seem like a great company.

    Tesla still seems to have the better SW, especially the GUI.
    Also not very fair comparing different tyres with different Rolling Resistance. ONVO has much lower RR.
    And you never mentioned that the ONVO reaches a similar Energy Efficiency as the Tesla, but the ONVO has a 900 V+ System whereas the Tesla still has the old 400V (and is 4 years older).
    So amazing is the ONVO really not. Design and Styling is also not on par with Tesla.
    If anything specific Efficiency, is higher on the Tesla.
    Onvo Exterior looks much cheaper
    Onvo Interior is a 1 to 1 copy of the Tesla MY.

    could you expand your coverage to car industry in general.
    Of particular interest on car design studio etc.
    Why are they all LOOK A LIKE even in a competitive market?
    Why the ugly grille vents are still around?
    Why the very limited rear view still exist AFTER so many years in the market, arent the studio reacting to consumer feedback?
    Car companies are going bankrupt but there is no divergence.....

    6:00 min: complete nonsense. at urban speed, be it in shanghai or anywhere else in the world, you rarely ever need to touch the brake pedal in a tesla, except if you drive it contrary to the way it is meant to be driven. having said that, the l60 is no doubt an excellent ev.

  • @EdGoodwill
    @EdGoodwill 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    I think it's premature to say Onvo is optimized for CLTC cycle, and Tesla is optimized for EPA cycle. Electrical motors have high efficiency at different RPMs, and manufacturers have to consider real world use scenarios, not just test cycles, it's unlikely for ONVO to optimize for low speed driving, as a lot of people will drive it on highways and evaluate its consumption. Another factor affecting high speed energy consumption is that the underbody of Onvo L60 is not as streamlined as Tesla as it has to support swap-able battery, and hence more drag.

    Why not bring the one pedal drive mode to the overseas versions where it is allowed?
    All Chinese brands should do that. Give consumers the choice of one pedal drive.
