I haven’t spent much…come to think of it, any time, at the Canal since a 2015 trip. Thanks for the reminder of what a cool spot this is. And the canal cruise sounds right up my alley… a leisurely voyage away from la foule of turistas to parts unknown (to me) with a bit of liquid refreshment stealthily ensconced, and little chance of getting mal de mer. Your videos just get me more stoked for the next trip. Très bien fait !
You’re quite right about the canal area once being dodgy, which is why I’ve never been there but it looks great now. It reminds me a bit of where I live but on a much larger scale. Am definitely going to have to wander round there next time I come to the city. !
I have fond memories of going with my friends to a happy hour on the pubs around place de la republique during the winter, but in the summer we'd just buy alcohol from the nearby Super U and sit by the canal Saint Martin. The video doesn't show it but after 17h the place gets PACKED, especially during the summer. It can be hard to find a spot to sit.
I was really craving the Panda Panda popcorn chicken while they were closed for renovation for ages (I live very close to it). A bit pricey to go there regularly and I've already had too many surprise expenses the past month but now you may be giving me another craving now.
Totally understand! Not ideal to linger around any train station, especially at night. Probably best to take the scenic route - loop down to the haut Marais (blvd St Martin for example) and thorugh to République/Canal that way. Bit more scenic!
Great call on Panda Panda. My first time tonight. Had the popcorn chicken as suggested -and a cold IPA. Delicious. Good recommendation. Well worth the slight (10 min walk) detour from the canal. Gotta say though.... Chez Prune is still as banal as I always thought it was when it opened years ago. Back in the day it at least had the novelty of being by the canalside - rare back then. You can't even call it a dive bar - it lacks the necessary dive-charm. It's just meh. Fortunately there's a wealth of better options in the area.
Ah, chez Prune... Got banned there when I was 20 after a couple of browls and annoyances fueled by alcohol... Good memories of the good ol' times. At the time, le canal was a bit more authentic and raw
@@paris.in.my.pocket At the time, at the end of the 90s, the canal was not a well known spot as it is today. The place mostly attracted pennyless students would could buy cheap "takeaway" beer and sip it in carboard cups on the banks of the canal. The only spots were Chez Prune, La Perle, L'atmosphère et Le Chaland, but you did not have all these fancy little bars and bobo shops you find there today. The nights went often messy because everyone was drunk and the kids from the local housing projects (Follereau and La Grange aux belles) picked fight with everyone. But there werer also improvised concerts, epic batsketball contests, street parties. Good ol' time, we had a lot of fun. But then the district gentrified, the cops from the Louis Blanc police station got tougher... It became a more civilised place.
I signed up for your “App”! Ha! Scammers wanted my Apple ID!!! Even tho I told him I was not coming to Paris til ‘25!!! Acted so squirrelly!!! Please people! Do not fall for this!! Do not share your Apple ID!!! Scam!!!
Hey there, Emily here. I think you're talking about someone else. Paris in My Pocket isn't currently an app, it's a website accessible from any browser. To purchase the guide and thus gain access to the interactive website, all you need is a valid email and a way to pay, as with any online transaction. I'm concerned you were trying to access someone else's product and not ours. Could you please send an email to support@parisinmypocket.com so that we can figure out what happened?
Heading to Paris mid aug - in between the Olympics and Paralympics. Helpful to see where I can go during that period! Thank you!
Hope you enjoy!
That sounds exciting! Paris will be a great place to explore between the events. Enjoy your trip!
I’m doing the exact sane thing. Cheap hotels, got my metro tickets before the price increase on my phone. Hope you enjoy it!
Greate place to visit, for a walk. So beautiful !
It really is!
Ahh - some very happy times by the canal.
That sounds lovely! It's a beautiful area. Did you have a favorite spot or activity there?
Indeed!
Stayed in Le Marais near your opening shot during our recent trip and it was wonderful!
The dog looks like my Boston Terrier, Pedro. I miss him so much …….
Le Marais is such a great area! So much to see and do there. Glad you had a wonderful time!

It's definitely worth a visit now! The area has really changed. You'll love exploring it next time you're in Paris.
Absolutely you should!
Now I’m going to have to go back soon.. that bookstore! Looks amazing.📚🎨
Highly recommend!
Not only is your content helpful, fun and informative, the music is fab ❤
Glad you think so!
This is so helpful! We are staying in the 10th District, so can get to the canal and these restaurants pretty easily. Thanks for the tips!
Have fun!
Love the Chez Prune shout-out. Our fav rec of yours on the canal is La Cidrerie…spent several boozy hours there trying everything and people watching.
La Cidrerie is a great one!
Loved this! Thanks Jay! Paris in my Pocket is now my absolute go to, especially as a fellow coffee lover 😊
Love that, thank YOU!
Very nice way to spend a day!! Great video!!
Yes! Thank you!
What is the song during Panda, Panda at 6:55? 🇫🇷❤️🇺🇸❤️🇫🇷❤️🇺🇸

That sounds like a lot of fun! The canal must be so lively in the summer. Finding a spot must be a real challenge with so many people around.
This is the life!
love the canal!
We do, too!

They're the best
Do any of the coffee shops in Paris have treats for the dogs?
Not that we know of!
0:09 Did you know that you are standing nearly in the exact same spot of the first ever photograph of a human?
That's awesome! Had no idea
I spent 3 months living in the 9th over last summer. I had trouble finding a route to the canal that felt safe and not sketchy. Any suggestions?

Hey Jay, what ever happened to your association with Le Peloton?
We still recommend LPC, and did a giveaway with them a couple of months ago :)

Really glad you liked Panda Panda! And totally agree Chez Prune isn't for everyone :)
And CP!! Noooo 😢
Whoops!

It's wild how much an area can change in such a relatively short amount of time! Sounds like a real trip

How is the 💩💩💩 in the canals? .😂
It's pretty cleaned up for summer, people are able to swim
Less Y-O-U-R-S-E-L-F (hogging the shot) and UN-ending Shilling.
More scenes (great photography, btw) and hidden places. Thanks.🙄
You should check out our instagram as well, lots of tips and tricks and more shots there. Still a lot of Jay, too, just FYI ;)
