I accidentally showed the wrong math formula when I talked about defenses! Here is the formula I was talking about FLOOR ( Special Damage from Damage Formula * 600 / ( 600 + SpDef ) * .8 ) = Damage Taken
I think you misplaced a parenthesis still. The one on the right of SpDef should be on the right of the 0.8 instead. FLOOR ( Special Damage from Damage Formula * 600 / ( 600 + SpDef * .8 )) = Damage Taken. Otherwise, if you meant for the entire denominator to be multiplied by 0.8, it'd result in an overall 25% increase in damage. That would easily outclass everything.

I don't think spoon is the problem. The problem is that the game holds your hand as a ranger. "Oh you're coming for me? Let me run away and eject button!" I think ranged pokemon should not be allowed to use x-speed or eject button
Thanks for all the info Jake but not running it on Gengar with the Shadowball build doesn't make logical sense to me. If the damage formula regarding defence is 600/(600 + x) where x is the relevant defensive type, then that means every point of defence you add gives diminishing returns. Looking at this in reverse means that the more penetration you stack, the more effective it becomes. I fail to see how taking Choice Specs over this is a good idea. Yes it helps for burst but it's single target only and the cooldown on the effect is a massive 8 seconds. The spoon effect applies on everything you do, to every target, all the time.
Jake, been here for a long time. Just wanted to tell you, you're getting even funnier with the jokes, more informative, and better with your video quality as time passes. The work you've put in is showing. Good job man, wishing for all the growth and success you could hope for.
The Gengar argument I'll take it with a grain of salt because if you miss the first shadow ball them you don't have the sp.def reduction, so I'll need to see the math damage of the combo without the first shadow ball hitting. Also the first shadow ball you throw don't have the sp.def reduction, so if you are kiting before going all in there could be a difference in damage.
Assuming the equation he mentioned is all there is to it, the easiest way to understand defense is the percentage that is added to the whole. So 300 defense is added to 600 which gives 900, 300 is 33% of 900 and that is your percentage of damage reduction. 200 defense would be 25% of 800.
1:58 You showed the offensive damage formula and said you'd multiply 0.8. However, that would technically just make you deal less damage. If I'm not mistaken, based on the slick spoon's description, it multiplies the opposing pokemon's Special Defense stat by 0.8. So, the special attack damage formula would look like FLOOR ( Special Damage from Damage Formula * 600 / ( 600 + 0.8 * SpDef ) ) = Damage Taken
I only tested mime, since power swap is more DPS, and confusion is more bursty, I could test out both ends, and in terms of damage, it went choice specs> wise glasses> slick spoon
Talking about goodra, and considering attacking itens for it, choice specs seems to give more spAtk compared to ignoring defense. Goodra at max level has 450 sp atk, with a fully stacked choice specs you get more 120spAtk and that means 37% spAtk added. Maybe this is not as relevant as ignoring defense when we're talking about beating tankers, but imo I think goodra is a brawler, a front-liner. So if you're going for muddy water build, better go with specs, cookie and focus band. As muddy water defense increase depends on base SpAtk. Muscle band, scarf and focus would have a better sustain due to goodra cd reduction, if going for dragon pulse. It all depends, mostly important: have fun!

What I don’t get is how everyone says defense stats don’t matter when talking about emblems, but somehow defense stats matter when talking about damage? Apparently slick spoon and ttars true damage is noticeable so why does defense not matter when making an emblem page?
Defenses matter but hp is much more valuable that's why - you can check out the eHp calculations from the math cord. There isn't an item that makes you deal 20% more damage so you take the one that gives you something extra from opponents lowered defenses.
Mathematically no, for example, if you split a move that does 500 damage into five hits, then add 10% to all of these parts, you get 550 damage, this is the same as multiplying the 500 by 1.1 (or adding 10%)
I'm just thinking use the pyro ball not blaze kick, I'm think like physics attack is melee or basic attack rangers and sp attack one just using moveset to attack
@@cinderare 1: don't belive that scam there 2: red numbers are physical damage, purple numbers are special damage, white numbers are true damage. cinderace is a physical attacker, who mostly uses its basic attacks i'd recommend using muscle band, rapid-fire scarf and scope lens

It's not the end of the world using it with Comfey 🤔 more Sp. Atk and HP are both key for its kit and that extra little damage is welcome. Wise or Choice might be better (considering the ExShare + Rescue Hood build) but again, it's not the worst thing either.

Defenses matter but hp is much more valuable that's why - you can check out the eHp calculations from the math cord. There isn't an item that makes you deal 20% more damage so you take the one that gives you something extra from opponents lowered defenses.
Something about slowbro 420 made me laugh. It makes sense to me 😂
Yes the slick spoon video thank you
Its ok Jake I can only count to -1 anything more and u are a wizard if u know a number after -1
I love the videos explaining these mechanics since the game itself does a mediocre job at explaining them. thanks for enlightening us
Do you know to do the use quick chat 5 times challenge
they need to add Kadabra now, it'd be perfect!
We love you Coach Lasso!
If the special attack based item is slick spoon will the attack based item be rough spoon? 🤔💭
Pls make a rescue hood video because that item is not as clear and straightforward as the slick spoon
What about sableye?
Couldn’t have said it better myself
This spoon is certainly slicky and spoony
Can’t wait to see my Cynderace running this item because they clicked away from the math section.
As a blizzard ninetales user im happy
Does Slick Spoon work better on multihit attacks since you are getting that reduced Sp. Def on every hit?
Mathematically no, for example, if you split a move that does 500 damage into five hits, then add 10% to all of these parts, you get 550 damage, this is the same as multiplying the 500 by 1.1 (or adding 10%)
PLEASE TELL ME YOU RECORDED SLICK SPOON PETAL DANCE VENU!
what about greninja??
Good content. Please do more like this
I'm thinking to give the 🥄 to cinderace and use Pyro ball :)
Should I do it
cinder's a physical attacker, its damage doesn't depend on the enemy's special defence
I'm just thinking use the pyro ball not blaze kick, I'm think like physics attack is melee or basic attack rangers and sp attack one just using moveset to attack
@@cinderare 1: don't belive that scam there
2: red numbers are physical damage, purple numbers are special damage, white numbers are true damage.
cinderace is a physical attacker, who mostly uses its basic attacks
i'd recommend using muscle band, rapid-fire scarf and scope lens
@@specthro1285 ok, seeing someone in quick match use attack weight with a spoon and rapid scarf so I wonder
And a video about physical attack defender still use a spoon
Bro when I win in ranked matches my rank is deceased why bro ?
Interesting item
Interesting comment
works on slowbro too
Spragels….. you are Awesome!!
Let us know about Venusaur, I was wondering about Muscle Band, Spoon, Scarf myself lol
Spoon is not good for petal dance venusaur
It's not the end of the world using it with Comfey 🤔 more Sp. Atk and HP are both key for its kit and that extra little damage is welcome.
Wise or Choice might be better (considering the ExShare + Rescue Hood build) but again, it's not the worst thing either.
Comfey hits like a wet pillow and there are definitely many items it should be using before Spoon
@@BlackBeartic229 That's exactly what I said lol. But all the stats provide value, so it's not even in the bottom half of worst items for it
when is the next patch?
When the spoon is slick…
