Kinda yes, but not quite. Rick focuses more on defense while Nick on offense. Rick has stronger guard; can even take Super Punches really well, then counterattack out of nowhere. His "weak spot" (the animation when after using Super Punch at the right moment grants an instant KD) is also incredibly hard to reveal. Plus, it is impossible to defeat him by KO (only by TKO), unlike his brother. Nick however throws faster punches and are far stronger - the weakest ones take out 1/4 of max HP. Also his combo of 13 (i think) punches is near impossible to be completely avoided. But as I said, his defenses are somewhat weaker than Rick's, his "weak point" is easier to reveal, and can be KO'd by countering Leaping Elbow with Super Punch (the timing is very strict) but that doesn't mean he's completely defenseless. He is the only opponent in the game (to my knowledge) to BLOCK Super Punch (not dodge, but BLOCK). But, as I said, thier styles are similar, but distinct enough to make them a completely separate fighters (so one being "Title Defense" version of the other isn't holding itself)
@@Oscarus4250 Wow, thanks for the insight! I'll have to rewatch some Rick Bruiser LPs, to see this tougher defense. I wish Nintendo would make the next sequel to Punchout on the Wii already.
He does that whenever he calms down after one of his rages. If you take too long to knock him out after punching his face, his coach will yell, "Stay calm mate!" and he'll do the same thing.
It took me 2 days to get Hoy Quarlow's HECTIC pattern down, and another day just to beat him. Needless to say, I'm now googling the last 2 opponents' patterns.
fake h, Prince is more like Vodka Drukenski / Soda Popinski, but gets angry over being punched in the face rather than having bottles knocked out of his hands.
That Earthquake Uppercut move Rick does (the one where he does a few mini-hops before he hops to the back of the ring and shaking the ground by coming at you with a one-hit killer uppercut move that knocks you to the canvas in one hit) is one of the toughest attacks to dodge in the whole game. Even if you dodge correctly, sometimes you still get hit.
I'm a bit puzzled about our player here. Does he not realize he can block or is he just so good that he doesn't need to. I mean he is dodging rather impressively.
So true! I like that the Wii version tries to tell a story to the fighting, somewhat. We can see that Mr. Sandman was sort of like the original Little Mac of that world, but lost his hunger once he became the champ, like Rocky. Something like this would have been great for this game, the boss being Little Mac and some title defenses to add some replay value.
At the time this WAS Little Mac! Never stated on the Japanese promotion stuff, though, it did on the American. It wasn't until Wii's Punch Out that the producers stated officially that they weren't the same.
The special circuit is quite tricky, Narcis prince is just easy and it's not hard to find out how he works, Hoy Quarlow is quite annoying actually but once you've found him out he is probably the easiest one in the circuit, Rick Bruiser's attacks are really easy to dodge but his insta KO is the only thing that can screw you over, and Nick's attacks are exploitable and the only thing that you fight against is time.
She, and thanks... I think. :P I hadn't played the game in many years leading up to this video. I found it safer, in most situations anyway, to just dodge rather than going for a block or counter. It obviously didn't always work, but it was enough to get me through the game again.
Foreign weapons are used in Wii Punch-Out! as well. Really, as for the console versions of the games anyway, the NES one is the only one that doesn't feature characters who blatantly cheat or use weapons.
