- Really blown away this actually happened, the luck in this run was truly very crazy.
This was played on the Wii U Virtual Console, so although input lag is present and matters in some important scenarios, it isn't nearly as prevalent as that of Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!! , so great times like this are actually possible.

I have nothing but the highest amount of respect for zallard1 and Hootey, those guys practically defined this game on a speedrunning level. This run definitely would not have happened without their strategies, optimisation or runs, so a big thanks to those two.

Imagine paying good money on front row seats to see a boxing match that doesn't even last for 30 seconds.
That is how many Mike Tyson events used to be. Lots of hype for weeks, tons of money spent, and 10 seconds of actual boxing.

Here’s a fact: The announcer and all the fighters are voiced by Charles Martinet, and this was a few years before he started recording his lines for Mario!

I remember that back in the 90's were too much speculated that the Bruiser brothers were aliens due to the metrics, the strange feet and unknown origin/age.

Rick Bruiser is by far the worst opponent. The move where he immobilizes you followed by an auto-KD is obnoxious because you have to be PERFECT in order to dodge it.

When you train for years to be the best boxer in the world and some 17 year old kid ko’s you in 11 seconds
I didn't know Nick Bruiser's "Get it together" forehead tap counted as being knocked down. It's why the match ended with a KO and not a TKO.
He KO'd himself by punching his own head too hard.

This game definitely makes the fight a lot more fair. They allow you to throw infinite hooks and uppercuts as long as your meter is full, and you can block hooks.

Just noticed Martin Prince (first guy in the Special Circuit) has a 12-3 win/loss record. You can interpret that as beating everyone in the Minor, Major, and World Circuits (4 fights each) but losing to the next three fighters after him.

I always had issues with him because he would always stick his tongue out and mock me if I tried punching him in the wrong spot. It was so annoying.

I remember being ridiculously good at this game back in the day..or thought I was lol. Got my old snes out to compare scores, I only got close with Piston Hurricane with 0’6”24. Everyone else was under 30 or 40 seconds though. Guess I better brush up and try my hand at speedrunning!

I did Piston hurricane in 13s before, still nowhere as good as 6s.
Update: I got 5 seconds on Piston Hurricane, 9 seconds on nick, and 22 seconds on Sandman. Narcis was 20s. Heike was around 10. Mad Clown was around 15. Rick was nearly 15 in practice. Masked Muscle was quick. Aran was a little quick. Bob was fairly fast. Dragon Chan was nearly 20. Macho wasn’t easy though.

OMG this is soooo amazing to see.
I had time like this on a lot of these guys waaaaaaaaaaay back in the 90s, long before speed running was a thing. Never the whole game start to finish, but I practiced tirelessly. I have my name and some times in a Nintendo Power magazine, my dad sent in the polaroids (LOL Polaroid!)
I can't remember anything, but a sub 6 second on Piston Hurricane....so watching you do this triggered some crazy human recall memory. I could remember the smell of my childhood bedroom and was able to visualize it as it was in like 1996.

This was a mad clean run. Times like these are hard to come by all in sequence, the fact that the worst of it seemed to be Macho is REALLY good too, cause I know Major Circuit has a lot of really subtle/not-subtle time chompers (Bob, Muscle, Sandman)

Finally beating this damn game was a high point of my childhood.So much time spent putting in work,so many patterns to learn from the game's annoying AI.
I used to brag that I had everyone in this game under 30 seconds... I was such a fool.
I've been playing this game every so often since it first came out. One thing I can clearly remember happening years ago but have not been able to replicate is a "double knockdown" Sometimes it is possible for both you and your opponent to land a punch on each other at the same time. If this happens when you both are only one hit away from being knocked down it triggers some kind of draw animation. The only time I can recall it happening is on Mad Clown. Like I said it was years ago back in the 90s when it happened but I clearly remember it because I didn't even know it was possible. I would love to see somebody be able to do it on at least one character. I've tried a few times before but was unsuccessful. I would assume each character has their own animation for when it happens but Mad Clown is the only one I've ever seen. Have you ever experienced this "double knockdown" before or know anybody who has? I might have to fire up the game after typing this and see if I can get it to happen. I suppose I'll try it on Mad Clown since I know for sure it is possible with him.
A friend once told me that he was able to double knockdown while playing. Didn't tell me who it was but he said a special animation played. I never believed him but seeing your comment makes me think it was true.

Ive played this game since its release as a kid. I saw three things in this video I had never seen. 1. Super Macho Man dizzy sequence. 2. Nacissist Prince fall back down on the count and 3. Nick Bruiser knockout. Wow. This game was so great and had so much replay value.
