  • The Hollies are an English pop and rock group, formed in Manchester in the early 1960s, though most of the band members are from throughout East Lancashire. Known for their distinctive vocal harmony style, they became one of the leading British groups of the 1960s and early-1970s. They enjoyed considerable popularity in many countries, although they did not achieve major US chart success until 1966. Along with The Rolling Stones and The Searchers, they are one of the few British pop groups of the early 1960s that have never officially broken up and that continue to record and perform. The Hollies were inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2010 - Courtesy Wikepedia.

My brother passed away last week. This was the song I chose for my song 2 his funeral. He had such courage during his illness & always apologized for"being a burden", which he certainly wasn't. We were blessed 2 have him & know where he is. Until I see u again my precious brother rest in peace u so deserve. U are loved.❤

Agree with you Clive Shaw . Their lyrics, performances and their harmonies are epic. Those set them apart from other bands. Add Allan Clarke's haunting, soulful , distinct voice, its then complete.

Undoubtedly they should've enjoyed more commercial success. Graham Nash's departure shortly after their move to Epic was pivotal. The group had a more hits after he left including this song and long cool woman. They were inducted into the rock and roll hall of fame in 2010, owing to their success and legitimacy as great band. They're still a 60's fav of mine and I keep them in my Playlist.

My 7 years older brother suffered with depression and addiction most of his life. I refused to quit on him. I helped in any way I could and later on he straightened himself out and had a good life until he contracted pancreatic cancer at 53. We said our goodbyes knowing that death could not break our brotherly love. This song leaves me emotional every time I hear it.

I graduated high school in 1976. This is the song we all sang at our graduation ceremony. I remember the two classmates that were standing on either side of me as we sang, and looking at them both. As the years have past bye I have wondered how they are and what their lives have been like, as I’ve wondered about many of my other classmates. I went to my 5th reunion but I haven’t seen anyone since. I’m 63 years old now and hope my former classmates have had happy, healthy fulfilling lives.

this is genuine music, talent, love, gifts of the HOLY SPIRIT. I am 63 years young and remember this song. it goes deep down in my spirit. the playing of the harmonica and the live band. the artist we have nowadays 2021 don’t know how to sing, all they do is sing foolishness and make money. we will never have these true genuine music artists again

For being considered a pop group, this one of the most profound and touching songs I have ever heard. It was a popular song of war in the 60’s but is eternally relevant. It tells of the road of life from which there is no return and how we should treat each other along the way.

I am in awe at the humility of the Brits. I looked it all up, and see that Allan unceremoniously stepped down when he lost his voice - to every season - and was reminded also today for some reason of the Scarlet Pimpernel - one of my all time favorite movies - and also saw that Anthony Andrews is not a press monger and is quietly living his life, as Allan, with his wife of several years, in a dignified way. Our American celebrities, even of a certain age, have lost that.

They were very fine musicians indeed: a great voice on lead vocal, a unique line in high harmony (originally Graham Nash’s role), one of the best drummers in the business (his beat placement is to die for, on a par with people like Phil Collins and Bill Bruford), and an excellent lead guitarist/occasional bassist.
