For dash codes: Try the last digits of the VIN number on the bikes. Dealerships set it to the VIN so random jerks dont set a code while its on the showroom floor. A lot of times new owners dont know they can change it or they dont care.
Dang! 😳 That is so awesome that the previous owner sent you those keys! It's gonna look amazing when you bring it back to it's former glory and get it running. Gonna be a lot of work but, well worth it. Thanks for all the great content and keep yourself safe! 😃👍❤🏍 Randy
To get the cam chain off you have to put the 3 head brackets back on over the cams ( tighten them down ),,,,, then loosen and remove the 2 bolts off of the cam gear ( should be 2 grey/silver bolts, hold on to them when there almost out of the hole so they don’t fall into the motor ), lift the chain off the gear and then you can take the 3 cam brackets back off and your hood to go
dont remove the head ( like others said ) the block is fine, youre wasting your time its little corosion from sitting outside juste put some marvel mistary oil (or ATF) in the cylinders and let sit and turn manually the engine : it will lubricate cylinders and rings and prevent corrosion it will clear out when your gonna run it great rebuild project
My initial instinct is to agree with you! As it would mean less work for me. I Believe what you are saying is a great way to go. I want to make sure I don't cause any issues if I go this route! Thanks TNA
Yes! I was thinking exactly the same while I was watching the vid: "please, don't do that, don't remove the head, everything is fine besides just a lil rust, thats unnecesary. All those screws have a pre-determined torque, as you well know).
I am from India. It makes no sense rebuilding the bike, judging from the damage. You're better off buying a new bike. But Respect for the time and money spent for the build. This is true, because, one cannot buy experience, that you do. A sub is not enough. 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰Keep doing what you do . "Hello world, nothing is an easy fix, if you're passionate about something, don't let anything stop you""☺️
Wow cool video, it's inspiring me a little bit with my 2020 aprilia rsv4 misano edition rebuild I bought from an auction so I wasn't lucky with code but it's almost done and it's cool to see someone else do it too!👍
Great video & great project, i have rode street/sportbikes since 1992 & i can safely say the motorcycle community are some of the best folks you will ever meet, this video is a prime example of that with sending CJ keys & the owners manual. Everybody please ride safe, keep the shiney side up, but most of all have fun and enjoy life 😎🏍🙂
I'm just amazed by how you take care of your bikes on your own, knowing that you have diffrent bikes, diffrent manufacturers thus making it difficult to familiarize taking each bike apart, yes, if youre a qualified mechanic thats easy, but for an enthusiast? Must require lots of attention, Support from Ph🇵🇭
Man, It is incredible the last owner could see you! And you'll have a lot of work with this Aprilia, they are sooo special...But that's not a problem for you! I think you have same problems that here in Spain to be served by Aprilia's parts. We can wait for months...Definitely a tough project, good luck CJ! Great video!!
There should be a cam chain tensioner somewhere you need to release that before you can get the chain off, you don't really need to get the flywheel off at this stage, My advise would be to put back the cam caps making sure timing marks are lined up put some oil in the bores, then rotate the engine quite a few times, then have another look with the scope, to see if it cleans up. If the rust is only surface, it should be OK with out taking the head off, d
Hello Awesome is the word for your channel no matter how beat up the bike is you and your best Friend restore its beauty awesome i ride old 750vfr and I’m 64 blessings heaps your family health and prosperity ❤
You were lucky you never stripped the threads on cam caps you should always take cam tension off first ,if you ever need any advice I worked for ducati and ktm as a race technician for 30 years...
Love the bible quotes at the end, very important for all motorcycle riders as an encouraging too and god's promise everytime u get on a motorcycle for a ride
so, in these cases I think it would be better to work with the engine outside the frame, and on the command, there should probably be a tensioner that loosens the part. let's wait for scenes from the next chapter ✌🏻
Love your videos keep on growing brother. I used to work on internal engine parts while engine still in the bike and frame. Than I started removing the engine and it’s a bit of striping work but it is worth it because it safes a lot of frustrating moments. And makes it much easier for reassembling. ✌️🤙🦾
To remove the cams you need to remove the tensioner. On these it's an internal tension (a pain in the arse) you can get a tool to release it. I have used a screwdriver to release it. It will be stiff due to having Oil in the tensioner. Then remove the 2 cam sprocket bolts. Then the cams cone out. I'd recommend doing the valve clearances as they are always out of spec and replace the tensioners as they are a common fault on these and make it rattle. Definitely get a manual as timing these engines are not easy. Iv done a fair few now and still a pain.
You dont need to get that Stator of. Theres 2 Screws that fit the camshaft chainwheel to the intake camshaft. If you remove these two youre good to go. Right above the upper right side of the Stator is a empty screwhole wich is used to block the Crankshaft in the right position to align the Chaintiming again. If the Crankshaft is blocked in that particular Position you can align the two camshafts with each other with help of the marks on the gears and set the Timing by aligning the intake cam to the hole in the small left side camblock. The Chaintensioner is sitting somewhere down in the Enginehousing and needs so be fully pressed into locking position. Youll be able to gain chaintension again by giving him a little hit with a Long screwdriver after reasembling ☺️👍👌 Theres a lot of helpfull special tools for these engines. Might be good getting some of them 👍
That's not how you loosen the chain, you need a long steel rod, or the special aprilia tool to compress the chain tensioner. Once you pressed it in, it will stay in. There's a ratcheting mechanism in there. Best to do this from the top of the engine. When you're all done and want to tension it back up, you compress the tensioner a click more and it will spring back in it's original place.
There has to be a cam chain tensioner somewhere that you’re not seeing. I don’t think they would design it so that any time a cam needs to come out you have to pull the flywheel
Bud, I have never worked on one of these, but all engines are the same. The cam chain tesioner should sit on the side of the heads. Should be two bolts to remove it and the chain will be loose. By loosening the fly wheel, you will not get the chain loose. Behind the flywheel is only a gear which the chain runs on. not needed to remove this to get the head off.
I know that he is still new to repairing motorcycles and fixing them. I still see that he is working harder and not smarter. Life would be easier for him to drop the motor and have FULL ACCESS to everything. instead of working in tight spaces. He already has a but load of wiring to do anyways. I am always ready to be hired and a consultant or an extra hand. . ! !
CJ, there is no manual or automatic cam chain tensioner further up on the engine? There usually is something spring loaded applying tension. You should only have to extract flywheel to remove the chain, etc
The previous owner saved u apx. $1,700. That's what an Aprilia dealer charges for 2 new keys, TFT dash, ignition assembly, gas rank lock & seat lock. Also take a look at "2 stroke repair" on TH-cam as a possible header repair using compressed air & heat!
I would only pull the head IF I wanted to be 100% sure that the motor didn’t have water in the cylinder. I would just manually crank the motor to see if everything spins freely. If everything spins well, then I would be fine with it.

Good morning, Dear. Mr. CJ. I found your muscle image in 12 minutes and 5 seconds, so much fun. I look forward to it again, thanks.

Hi, it is possible to remove the cam without loosening the camchain, you have to unbolt the sprocket from the cam, good luck!

@@CJMediaOfficial amen brother
long road ahead
Save the plastic piece that comes with the keys. The key number is probably on there so you can order extra keys.
Do yourself a favor and drop the motor. It’ll be easier to work on when doing the head work. Glad you got the original keys.
You think so!!? Do you think i even need to take the head off? Seems like people are mentioning to leave it on?
I would only pull the head IF I wanted to be 100% sure that the motor didn’t have water in the cylinder. I would just manually crank the motor to see if everything spins freely. If everything spins well, then I would be fine with it.
