"At this point, you just make a new outfit, announce the death of Spider-Man, and come back as a different hero." He actually did do that! For a while, Spider-Man was wanted in NYC, so Peter created four different alter egos to represent different aspects of his abilities. Ricochet, Dusk, Prodigy, and Hornet. After eventually returning to being Spider-Man, four younger powered kids took up those identities he created, and became a team known as the Slingers.
That's so cute
love Identity Crisis so much lol.
Can you tell me which ones represent what aspect of Spider-Man?
That’s actually kind of fire, ngl.
43:30 “The Superior Spider-Man, but they’re two different characters”
Buddy you don’t know how right you are
As far as I know, those "web armpits" are actually web wings designed to help him move better when in mid air
That's only in the MCU, in the comics they are just for aesthetic
they are gonna be in the Spider Man 2 game too and although I like the Web Gliders/Wings I don't know how to feel about them being in the game
@@laffogramsThey were in the spectacular spider man show as well
@laffograms they were to allow Spider-man (or some spin-off) to glide
@@BronyGaming-or8kv in the ps1 game too(i think the second one)
alex lennen is honestly one of the best video essayists on this platform
Agreed
Ong
Fr fr.
He sounds like a very professional teacher who one day decided to wear a clown nose
His Kite-Man video is my favorite one, very well made
The reason the backgrounds looked like that in the older comics is because certain colors were harder & more expensive to produce back in the day, causing things like Hulk becoming green rather than grey as shown on his original cover, & Spider-man having blue instead of black in his suit.
That's actually pretty important and cool to point out
wait it's supposed to be black? the blue complements the red so well I never thought it was supposed to be black
@@raeryukoBoth Peter and Spider-Man 2099 were supposed to have red and black suits that became red and blue suits due to printing errors
@@raeryukoYeah it only looks blue due to the printing, same thing with Venom and 2099
Hell yeah! Love seeing Alex get some well-deserved attention
Really though, his content is really good.
On god dude he should watch Mr bean could kill Superman
@@ItsSkiido Yes! I love that video! Not to mention the joke video about The Wall...
@@Dipped1234 What joke?
@@PulseAnimations878 You know, I didn't realize it was meant to be a joke until the comments on the video pointed it out to me. I genuinely thought he took something as goofy as the wall and had an hour long, deep, philosophical discussion about it. And in the end, maybe it's meant to be both.
The ending with Otto becoming Peter actually leads to a pretty good story called Superior Spider-Man who is personally one of my favorite Spider people
THE BEST PART about the whole Devil takes Spider-Mans marriage thing is that, they can still get together, hell, theyre still DATING, they could even be married again later on. Its just that, for some reason, Mephisto wants the natural marriage thats already been happening? And if its for the reason of (he wants peter miserable) or (just to fuck with him) then Marvel Editorial LITERALLY MADE THEMSELVES THE DEVIL. (Also, they later had (years down the line) a story in which it shows how Mephisto is truly defeated in the future, and we see someone dressed in a spiderman costume, only to reveal it was May-Day Parker, the daughter that never was atter he took the marriage. So it suggests that Mephisto saw the future in which spidermans crotch spawn killed him, said fuck that, and took EXTENSIVE measures for it not to happen.).
In 2019 they gave a reason but it still stupid
This is why spiderman comics jave been bad since 2007.
Love seeing non comic people react to the insanity of comics
Same
It’s so cool to see patterz find out about lore of fandoms
There are loads of superheroes and villains all around the world.
The Russians have a team equivalent to the Avengers called The Winter Guard.
If you've seen the Black Widow movie, you've seen a couple of the members of that team.
Red Guardian, as well as Ursa Major (the guy who gets his arm broken while arm wrestling).
The UK has an Avengers team known as Excalibur.
Lead by Captain Britain
His twin sister Psylocke
Nightcrawler
And associated characters like
Merlin
Black Knight
Union Jack
Etc
Canada had an Avengers team called Alpha Flight.
Lead by Guardian (basically Captain Canada)
With team members like
Vindicator (Guardian's wife. She's like female Captain Canada.)
the Sasquatch (literally a sasquatch)
Puck
Snowbird
Aurora
Northstar
Shaman
Wolverine
And maybe sometimes Deadpool
Japan had the Big Hero 6.
They have basically the same team as in the movie, but just significantly different versions.
They're originally lead by Sunfire and the Silver Samurai (the villain from The Wolverine movie is a version of Silver Samurai).
There's also sort of a general Asian team called the Agents Of Atlas.
They used to be a general pulo adventure team, but then Agent Jimmy Woo (from the Ant-Man movies and Wandavision) took over and it became an Asian team, with members like
Shang-Chi (Chinese)
Cindy Moon AKA Silk (a South Korean Spider-Woman bit by the same spider as Peter Parker)
Amadeus Cho (a South Korean kid who is like the seventh smartest person on earth.
The female scientist who helped Ultron create the Vision body in Age of Ultron was Helen Cho, Amadeus Cho's mother.)
Etc etc
Africa has the Wakandans and Moon Knight is intrinsically linked to Egypt.
Etc etc etc
There are teams all over the place.
8:13 Peter swinging, crawling, and fighting villains on a daily basis for a vast majority of the day and night is his workout. He wasn’t given muscle by the spider bit like in the movies but instead had to train to get that way.
He does have super strength. It's just a level of super strength where most villains are still more buff.
For anyone wondering about what happens next, Peter eventually returns to his body
And his comics get fucked up
@@notaneboySam goes to otto
superior spider-man was such a good shake-up ngl (and made 2 of my favorite spider-man suits)
i mean sure alot of the ideas were wack as hell, but the idea that otto octavius, haunted by the memories of peter parker, tries his best to continue his legacy and attempt to surpass it, only to end up realizing that no matter what gadgets he makes or the countermeasures he plans, between the two, peter IS the superior spider-man
18:00 This is actually a weakness of Spider-man's. In fact, Spider-man cannot normally wield Mjolnir(Thor's hammer) because he just cannot bring himself to kill for the greater good.
Actually some of those storylines made it's way into the 1992 Animated Spider Man. It looked like they were going to do the Clone Saga but the series ended before they could. Though they did have a saga where MJ was lost to a portal, she came back, they got married, she got water powers until they realized that she was a clone and died.
They did as much of the Clone Saga as needed to be done, not just with Miles Warren's cameo, but with Ben Reilly coming in from an alternate universe, explaining his backstory and prompting the immortal line: "This is starting to sound like a bad comic book plot!"
Oh yeah and then the show ended on a giant cliffhanger with Peter and Madame Webb leaving to find the real MJ. That ending still makes me a little mad. I wanna know if Peter got his closure.
By the way, the story does continue after that with more "reset button" shenanigans. Which is the one thing I really hate about the comics. They establish the big multiverse, but continue to hit the reset button on one single universe because heroes aren't allowed to grow as characters. They did the same with Deadpool and gave him resets too when he had genuine growth
this is one of my favorite videos on youtube, I hope Pat enjoys it
i guess to clear things up, peter does come back eventually after otto realizes peter is and will always be the better spider-man.
Spider-Man does mention working out, in fact multiple do. But I also recall Pavitr Prabhakar in ATSV’s line about intentionally not working out as he likes his natural tonage but doesn’t want too much definition, basically like a slender-built Chad.
Many people say that Spider-Man should have organic webbing but they miss the fact that Spider-Man is a scientist and the web-shooters are his first major scientific invention.
It would be like trying to make it so that Ironman can just magically summon a suit instead of building it himself
thats not remotely the same
@@_SWFB Web shooters are still superior. They are important for Peter Parker's character. Spider-Man being a scientist is as important as Batman being a detective. You can't take that away from the character
@@Coconut_Prrson I was talking about the comparison to ironman. That made no sense. I agree with you that he should have web shooter though.
@@_SWFB ok what about Antman and Pym Particles? Is that better?
Fun fact: Not only is Venom x Eddie canon in the comics, but they even have a kid together. Eddie’s nickname for Venom is even “Love”
I hate this
1:09:45 There's a secret tropical paradise with dinosaurs hidden in the Antarctic. It's called the Savage Land and it's ruled by Ka-Zar, who is a Tarzan rip-off, but he has a pet sabretooth tiger, so it all cool.
Spider-Man has been written by many different writers and drawn by many different artists which is why how he is interpreted is a bit different depending on who is writing, drawing him at the time.
Even though they come across slightly different they are all the same Spider-Man and are a continuation of the story of his character. So basically they are continuations of everything that has happened since Spider-Man was first introduced in the 60s more or less.
The best spiferman eras were the 60s and early 90s.
The Clone Saga is all just ONE universe. Basically 2 Spider-Mans and a 3rd clone named Kaine.
Peter Parker - AKA the regular Spider-Man
Ben Reilly - AKA the Sensational Spider-Man/Scarlet Spider
Kaine Parker - originally a monstrous version of Peter known as Kaine, he later gets his body repaired and becomes a perfect clone of Peter like Ben. He then becomes the 2nd Scarlet Spider (in a time when Ben Reilly is dead).
Basically, Peter just has 2 twin brothers, and sometimes they're evil, insane, or dead, and briefly they're not 100% sure who the real Peter is.
It's not actually THAT complicated.
And there's another clone named Spodercide
Plus a bunch of unnamed ones bc maximum clonage sounded like a cool title
@@rickrivers2021 Yea, but Spidercide isn't really a clone. He's a big monster thing.
And the other clones have no real impact and don't add to the identity confusion.
9:43 is probably one of the best examples of Foreshadowing I've ever seen.
I've loved Alex for such a long time now, it is really nice to see him well-crafted videos get some time in the lime-light.
Spiders can lift 150-300 times their body weight, but here's the thing: Spiders don't work out, Peter (to an extent) does.
Pat I just gotta say people as a research project use that whole Superman thing to do a test & find out it's an actual thing that exists, there is a whole study behind it that you could look up & read about though idk what it's called.
Also the whole thing where he hunts down Kingpin when Aunt May gets shot, Peter threatens him by sticking part of his hand into his mouth & saying something along the lines of how if he does it again hell let him suffocate on webbing or something like that.
32:41:
Patterz: Parenthood???
Me: Who did you think Mayday from Across the Spider-Verse was based on?
I am disappointed, that this was the history of Spiderman, but never talks about Sensational Spider-Man Vol. 2, Issue #40, which is called "The Book of Peter". Cause it has one of the most epic sections ever seen. Where Peter Parker literally meets, and talks to, GOD, the LITERAL God, the One Above All, the being who Created EVERYTHING to ever exist.
3:21 I love when this trope is played with. My favorite is with Danny Phantom with Flash going, "Danny fendork is... DANNY PHANDORK!?" Both staying in character for the insult and shitting 5 bricks at the revelation. Lol
I remember seeing this vid a few months ago, but it still hits hard
Spider-Man deserves being one of the best (most popular) superheroes
To be fair they were in college so Jackal or whatever the fuck was not cloning *minors*.... he was just cloning someone young enough to be his daughter who also happened to be his student creating a frankly terrifying and jail worthy power imbalance.
Which is.... slightly less bad...? I suppose?
patterz - ''if your really strapped for cash, heres what you do spiderman, we're living in 2023...''
spiderman chilling in the 1970s
If you want to know about Miles Morales, he’s in the Ultimate Spider-Man series, which Alex Lennen (the person who made this video) has made multiple videos about.
"who's Kraven"
Has his own movie coming out
Seeing you say paralyze doc ock, when i'm pretty sure Otto becoming paralyzed is the exact reason he got the arms is hialrious.
It's not. He made the arms so he could multi task better, but an experiment went wrong and fused the arms to him. It also made him evil for some reason.
you should watch part 2 of this (The rise and fall of Superior Spider-Man)
as a person who has read most of the comics abt spiderman I can confidently say that Alex's video is amazingly accurate while also summarizing almost everything important reletively quickly
The craziest thing about them rolling back so much of Spidey in the early 2000s is they literally released Ultimate Spider-Man, a comic that already starred a younger high-school-age Peter, around the same time. What the hell was the point of regressing mainline Spidet as well!?!
1:27:23 in all fairness Rhino does trade blows with The Thing, Hulk, Juggernaut and Colossus regularly
Superman disguising as clark kent by putting on glasses actually makes sense, when man of steel or BvS released henry cavil(The actor for superman) Wore a superman shirt in New york timesquare infront of a BvS poster, And no one noticed him, it's actually the fact about how you really don't see someone like clark, being someone like superman.
18:00 I love this topic for discussion so lets say it again
Heroes like Spidey, Batman, Superman and all the rest dont kill because once you do it, you cant go back, everytime you fight a villain, your head will go to “I should just kill them”, and so, you’ll end up killing all thugs and criminals, thats why they never kill
When patterz doesn't understand that squirrel girl beat Thanos in a 1v1 fight
Peter through willpower, reterns to his body after a while, at least in Earth 616.
Patterz commenting on supermans secret identity is funny to me cause he doesn't know the disguise worked in real life when the superman actor put on a pair of glasses and even put on a superman costume under his suit
If Peter got buff and swoll it would mess up his fast and agile technique
The Spider-Slayers were some of the weirdest Spider-Man enemies… The J Jonah Jameson slayer wasn’t exactly the strongest one, though the ones made by the original creator’s son, Alistair Smythe, actually got way stronger… He was even forcibly transmutated into a cyborg insectoid warrior called, The Ultimate Slayer, that has a mental connection/control over the previous slayers
20:40 I feel like that main reason he wanted to fully get rid of his powers was so he didn’t go back. Yeah he might’ve been able to just quit for a while but Peter has this need to do good and would just want to fully lose his power in order to stop it.
This reaction vid is the most I’ve ever gone 🤔, especially when I heard him say Morbius was dc
Did he just say who's kraven? Also that was the end of the comics. It continues after the end of Superior Spider-Man with a new #1.
Spiderman Lore? Nah we got to get "The man upstairs" for this.
I been obsessed with Spider Man recently with Across of the Spider Verse being literally Peak Fiction
Also I agree that I much prefer Spider Man having organic Web Shooters like Tobey Maguire's Spider Man 2:07
I like the webshooters better because it highlights Peter's intellect
Spider-Verse is nowhere near peak fiction.
@@drodrig1 You can still do that with other gadgets outside of the web-shooters. You can highlight his intellect through him building his utility belt, spider-tracers, spider-signal, ice capsules, ect like he does in the comics.
Wait until he finds out Otto once got the world addicted to cocaine to give them the cure to cocaine addiction
So the Superior Spiderman story line is Otto/Doc Ock inside of Peter's body and it ends with the small part of Peter that was still inside of his own body taking control so that the enemy that was being fought can be defeated. And Otto allows that to happen. Knowing he can never be the better Spider man.
Yes! More of this please!
The long web thingies underneath his arms are his web gliders, so then he can glide further to the next location he can swing off of.
The entire time he was calling Flash Thompson the Flash I assumed it was just a joke and then when he realized he was wrong I was baffled.
"That's the Lizard I know, that's a cool Lizard."
3 seconds later, Lizard ate his own child
who's gonna take Patterrz's History test now
Patternz looks like old school peter.
19:32 In the show Arrow, the main character Oliver Queen actually does this at the end of season 3
The real reason J Jonah Jameson hates Spider-Man is because his wife gets killed by a masked thief and his son John points out that he hates masked heroes
It shouldn't be on Peter to decide whether his villains live or die. It's on the government since they're the ones with the authority to execute them after they get arrested.
The thing is Venoms weakness isn't God its loud noises. This was the plot of the movie KEKW.
Can't wait to see him react to the sequel
At the time id be insanely furious with the DocOc Superior Spiderman transition. In hindsight though, kinda cool imo
Kraven was a big game hunter who decided Spider-Man was the ultimate target.
Spider man gets stronger naturally just fighting and swinging causes so much muscle work lmao, he definitely gets more and more jack the longer and longer he swings
"And this is the comics. This is the stuff that you definitely don't know about."
Kiddo, I grew up with compilations of the original Steve Ditko ones.
"How are you getting bullied if you're Spider-man?" To be fair, he does eventually get put into a boxing match with Flash Thompson and does give a tiny bit of effort, which the other students think is just Peter getting lucky, but Flash (though he won't admit it) does realize that Peter is tougher than he gives him credit for.
"Jameson's like your average conservative commentator." Eh, more like a thick-headed hardass. Absolutely stubborn, but he most certainly is not about putting the blame on "groups of people" for no reason. He flat-out goes against racist-type characters and stuff.
"I thought Jameson was just a grifter!" The whole Spider-Slayer original robot thing he did was always confusing to me as to why he was never put in jail for at least a bit for it, but I don't think Jameson like literally wanted to murder Spider-man, more just incapacitate and stop him. He isn't there for the fame of being against Spider-man, he's there to tear him down out of his jealousy towards Spider-man.
ah ok so that is NOT how the otto incident ends
it turns out only a copy of Peter’s mind was inside Doc Ock’s body and that his real consciousness was still in his original body, waiting to take control. That’s how Peter Parker is ultimately resurrected.
I love pat fully calling the spiderman streamer arc
Alex Lennen also made a video on the Superior Spider-Man, which is Doc sock on Spider-Man’s body which follows the end of this video.
9:44 "they don't try [the spider-slayer] again?" oh boy...
43:03
Yes, each of them are different Spider-Man in Different Universes.
The easiest way to explain how the Spider-Verse works is that each and every different interpretation of Spider-Man is its own self contained story and universe. The specific Spider-Man story being told here is the very first Spider-Man.
No, all 4 of those are 616.

Venom is actually like the nervous system so it actually makes sense why it’s weak to sound
Love the correlation to the parent able to randomly lift a car to save their trapped kid.
Makes sense though that our body has these limitations in place. Imagine if you could just decide to randomly completely destroy your muscle fibers by just... using them too hard. I don't know what mechanism in our brains/bodies allows us to defy this, but it's kinda crazy to me that we're programmed in such a way that we can sense extreme danger and just be like, "Yeah, I'm just going to lift this car and not question it until the ambulance arrives and asks me how the car got yeeted into the roof my garage."
YOOOOO as a huge Spidey fan, this makes me happy :D
She hulk can become a whole lot stronger. She works out in her normal form as a person then it gets multiplied when she hulks out.
Other than money (printing more books means more people buy) one of the main reasons a character will be split between different concurrent series is that they are focusing on different genres within that's character's wheelhouse. Batman might have a gritty detective noire in "The Dark Knight" serial while "Batman" serial runs bombastic villain of the week action sequences. Superman might have his "big strong guy goes punch" in Action Comics while in Superman and Son focuses on the Kents as a family drama.
Yeah, traditionally ASM is the more action packed and big events book, Spectacular Spider-Man more character focused, and all the other 616 Spider-Man stuff a cynical cash grab
2:48 those are gliders so if he runs out of web fluid mid swing he can glide
53:09: I choked on my Spider-Man ice cream XD
I mean his spider sense is precognition, there was a time where something was going to self destruct but his spider sense led him to the correct sequence
The black costume/symbiote hates things that have a high frequency.

YEESIR! Thanks Pat! Spiderman is my favorite hero of all time! Youre as great as he is mate!🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
I also even said this recently "I would have known he was spiderman if I was in this High school" I wouldn't say anything though.
4:29 you talked about JJJ being like your average conservative, but in actuality, he’s very liberal! He’s an avid supporter of mutant rights, and he’s spoken out against many kinds of bigotry in the past!
29:14 oh the irony of this..Symbiotes are technically demons in a way, or at least a creation of one, man thats ironic to point out
i love Spider-man! He is my hero that makes me happy!
I'm surprised Alex didn't talk about Norman and Gwen's children. He talked about OMD and BND.
The thing about the marvel universe was that it was advertised as the real world with super heroes. Spider-Man has to balance his hero responsibities and his homework. The fantastic four often bicker about who broke the coffee machine. Members of the avengers frequently come and go due to office politics. The world doesn't magically fix itself once an event is over and you get to see the lasting effects on characters, even those that had next to nothing to do with what happened. The best way I put it is that DC is modern day greek mythology while Marvel is greek mythology in the modern day.
I cant wait for his entire history of Batman video
I didn't realize how little pat knows about marvel and spider-man especially because all he knows is the movies which makes it a more interesting because patt gets to learn about the comics
