  • In a highly praised rookie class, Jaime Jaquez Jr.-the 18th overall pick, taken by the Miami Heat-has found a way to climb to the top of the conversation. His immediate impact has earned him Erik Spoelstra’s trust and a truckload of playing time. In this video, J. Kyle Mann takes a closer look at where his quiet confidence and well-rounded skill set come from and where he might go from here.

    J Kyle Mann for my armchair couch opinion sees the game as more should. Quoting him "the ball moves faster than people do". Players who can shine in the play between shot attempts is the magic of the game. Jaime is another example of the constant devaluing of secondary and tertiary knack being undervalued for primary option traits, regardless if 80% of those players will never garner or deserve the rope for that usage. Just love Juan Wick's game (have annoyed co-workers all season bout him) and agree that the cap on what level he can reach should be be currently left blank. Regardless of where he levels out at he will always be additive to high level basketball, thats something you genuinely cant say for a lot of prospects prospective outcomes.

When you flow from short highlight to short highlight to short highlight it’s always my preference when you throw a quick spotlight on the subject so our eyes know where to look immediately. Similar can be said about Kings' Keegan Murray, a more seasoned college player coming into the league. Mostly a spot-up threat in year one, he has developed a pretty well-rounded offense game there and clearly had worked on footwork and positioning defensively as well in his 2nd year.

    The last part about orgs getting blinded by physical tools and attributes is so true! I was watching pg13 podcast with Gilbert arenas and they also mentioned this. They were saying that players aren’t able to show their potential on the court by just doing physical activities at the combine. That’s why players like Jokic, Jaime,sengun etc. fall in the draft.

    • @michaelahurt
      @michaelahurt 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +10

      I mean that also ignores that Sengun grew two inches, Jokic's shooting/scoring development is the rarest of rare, and that, as much as I like Jaime, he wouldn't look like this in Detroit or Houston. Miami is the only team -- maybe Denver -- who can utilize what he does well in their system.
      It's 100% true and a fair criticism that just because you have all the physical attributes it doesn't mean you can play, but guys like PG and Giannis are why teams draft the physical attributes anyway.
      Just look at the top 20 players ever. After Bird, Curry and Jokic all those guys are athletic marvels. Physical ability matters. The "pure" basketball players are the exception, not the norm.

    • @t4d0W
      @t4d0W 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      Nuggets back in 2014 split the difference because Jokic wasn't their first big man pick that year. It was Nurkic and he would be traded years later because Jokic's was showing he had a higher ceiling. Plus some of these guys who fall in the 10~25th picks are not chosen to be in 'franchise saving roles'. They are high complimentary pieces first because of their craft/skillset but if they grow into franchise cornerstones, the team would consider themselves lucky. Bad teams always have to be in the cycle of finding a franchise builder to make easier team building decisions especially if their scouting doesn't run as deep as Presti's.

    JJJ's post game is so Kobe-esque man. Boy from Cali alright.
    I watched a few games of 3J's in the Heat and was like - hold up wait a minute, I know this set of counters.
    Glad it's still in the game. Hope this guy has a long career in the NBA.
    As his shooting, read of the game, & conditioning improves, I think we may potentially see a 6th man closer or a 2nd/3rd offensive option starter down the line.
    I don't think he'll ever be a perennial all-star but I'd like to bet JJJ will at least make 1x all-star appearance in time as his ceiling.
    He's got star potential in him, the eye test says so & he's in the right environment, so really wish him the best!

    Ive liked his game since I saw him a few years ago in the march madness, dude always played right.
    Now the thing that shocks me is what he is doing as a rookie was my ceiling for him. A nice peice but not a star.
    If i had to re evaluate his game just based on what ive seen this year. His peak is a fringe all star to me. Dude definitely is the future of the heat in my opinion after butler retires.
