- Can the culture of Indiana basketball be explored in a single weekend? In Home and Away, we tag along with The Ringer’s J. Kyle Mann as he takes a road trip around the Hoosier State to find out: from Terre Haute to visit the alma mater of Larry Bird and visit with Robbie Avila, Indiana State’s brilliant, bespectacled big man; to Indianapolis for a conversation with Pacers guru Caitlin Cooper about her appreciation for Tyrese Haliburton and a live 'Ringer NBA' podcast; to Bloomington to check in on one of the greatest traditions in all of college basketball. That’s not to mention the colorful characters, bustling arenas, and iconic field houses we’ll encounter along the way. Buckle up.

I could listen to Kyle teach me complex mathematics and I would still listen! I simply could never have enough of you in my life, Kyle. More podcasts, more vids, more tweets!
"I could listen... And Id still listen!" No shit lol you just said youd listen.
@@colinbreland3133 yeah makes sense. my bad.

@@days5516 all anyone does in YT comments anymore is stroke off the vid creator to get likes. Nobody ever actually comments on the topic of the video. Its fuckin gay lol. Channel 5 News w/ Andrew whoever makes the most interesting Docs and every comment is just sucking off the vid creator with nothing to do with the vid. Shits wack.
J Kyle Mann is Jon Bois of Ringer
Most accurate thing I've read in a while!
Mr Mann is good but it’s not even close dawg
Hoosier here - Welcome! Also, come back and do the highschools next year, thats where IN basketball lives. Some gorgeous and huge old barns here.
Your state loves High School ball. I was in Princeton and one of the wing places there had a TON of High School photos and newspaper clippings. Very cool. I live in FL and it’s how we view High School Football. Respect.
@@Nenderscan’t wait to go back and see if I can watch a game. My step son went either a High School game or a small college arena and it was ridiculously nice. I love hoops and never was interested in going to Indiana. People were nice. Pacers arena was nice. And the love of hoops is apparent. Maybe I was always supposed to be there???
Us Hoosiers just do high school basketball different
J Kyle Mann always comes thru with top tier content. Need more of this next season. Someone already commented this; it’s like the basketball version of No Reservations or Parts Unknown & Kyle is Bourdain.
I didnt stop smiling for 20:48. Thanks, J Kyle Mann
Great Video!!! Indiana is must visit for any basketball fan.
Literally 44 seconds in and I love this and hope you do more locations in the future.
And Wichita Lineman in the background!!? 🤌🏼
Kyle, your content is pure gold! A true joy to watch.
Team Mom Vicky, the real MVP. Community all the way man, that's dope to see
Great video (though Purdue only gets 3 seconds of focus). Indiana's love for basketball makes me pretty damn proud to be a Hoosier.
I’m a current IU stu dent and an avid fan of Hoosier basketball. I just got back from dinner with some friends at our local chilis and seeing the same resturant make a cameo was very bizzare lmao
This is like basketball parts unknown! Amazing stuff as always
Robbie knows what’s up! What a ballllller
We need like 6 expansion slots and a sheikh to finally get a team in Louisville. Tiny market, but the Yum Center would ironically be the largest stadium.
so many states got so much hoop’s history but indiana is just different🔥🔥
Thanks for a great video. Next time you’re here, definitely need a Crispus Attucks visit. First all-black team to win a state title in the entire nation, and they did it during the height of redlining, segregation, and Klan violence in Indiana. The next year, 56, they repeated with an undefeated season. The Big O is as historic as any other Hoosier. Love your content!
Love the Kyle mann jump shot film. Amazing video! More of this please
WOW! Being from Indiana this is just such a freaking cool video. We never see stuff like this! Love it!
Robbie Avila’s confidence is UNDERATED!
The chili's part ruled
Great content - always a treat when we get a J Kyle Mann video
Gotta visit the Hoosiers gym next time - it’s incredible
Excited to watch this video. My step son lives in Indiana. Man they love High School basketball. I actually liked my time in Indiana. Got to see the Pacers as well, and I was able to take him to his first basketball game.
Never been so happy to hear “ let me know if you agree” again
this is really good work and it made me even go out of my way to comment and say that, thanks
Greenwood Chili's represent!
Epic video, Australian born Hoosier raised & man this hits all the spots. Thank you!
My goodness this was great.
J Kyle Mann is the best!!!
This feels like the no reservations of basketball
So weird seeing bits of my home town at the end of the video there. I was probably 3 blocks from JKM and never knew it
Masterpiece
commenting on every Kyle video to ask the ringer to give him back his channel.
a masterpiece
I loved this.
Kyle, this is amazing
Good work. in 49 states it's just basketball.
Great video!😊
Gotta come by and visit the Muncie Fieldhouse next time you’re up here.
Awesome vid showing off our state, but you’d love our high school ball, evansville, terra haute, Bloomington, any city in this state breathes high school basketball like no other
Ahh-vee-la.....I had a flashback to the KY Joe Remixes. We need more of those for the Ringer audience to fully understand KY. Heck a mini doc on KY Joe and JKyleMann remixes is going to rack up the views because who wouldn't want to see that?!
I just crossed the river from KY and became a hoosier again myself. Visited the Knightstown gymnasium that was Hickory's home court in Hoosiers a couple years ago. Basketball is huge in Kentucky, but its even bigger than Jesus in Indiana. Jesus is like 6th on the list of who to pray to for catholics.
Needed a feature on Oscar Robertson who like Bird is a top5-15 GOAT and Indiana legend. First black school to win a state title in Indiana.
@@aaronfc02 you’re wrong. Look at his teams/coaches/owners/GMs compared to who he lost to in playoffs. He played extremely well in the playoffs. Top5-25 region can honestly all argue placement

Beautiful kyle~~
POG J KYLE MAN FUCKING RULES
Are you from owensboro by chance? My dad’s side of the family is from Hancock county, spent a lot of time around there in my youth. Tri state area represent!!!
Assembly Hall looks like an incredible venue
Chilis 🌶️ is GOAT triple dipper is a must
I salute you sir 🫡

"...and OH MY GOD THERE'S RICK PATINO" xD
Hello good sir. Just wondering: did Megan attend Morehead in the early-mid 2000s?
If yes, I think we were schoolmates. I was involved in the music department, and I remember her father, Chuck, having involvement with our NPR affiliate.
If so, small world!
Didn't even mention Caitlin Clark coming to the WNBA in Indy. Close range future looks extra bright for the state for sure.
Hadn’t happened yet!
my favorite chilis thing is the margs for sure
"OMG there's Rick Pitino!"...=]
The infamous ISU hot dog game!
J kyle Man is 6'1 sheeeshh
This east coast Hoosier from terre haute gives two thumbs up. Good work Kyle, sans the Purdue pooping their pants comment (jk, you’re right, I’m just salty; boiler up).
Didn’t go to Purdue 😔
GOAT
New Castle IN
You gotta get to a game at Mackey. That’s where the high quality basketball is played these days in the state of Indiana.
Bob Knight was removed in 2000, not 1997. No mention of Purdue despite where they are this year. An incomplete video.
Purdue is mentioned twice.
@@bballlarchive did you run out of gas to make it to West Lafayette?
Chilli’s is criminally underrated
Adding Caitlyn Clark ‼️
Please make one on Rob Dillingham , I’m begging you
G.O.A.T
Basketball in State of Indiana is not measured by how well teams are playing, its the passion for game of basketball by us Indiana foks
"The General" was fired in 2000, not '97.
Were you even in Indianapolis if you didn’t go to Longs Bakery?
Kyle rules love Tate Frazier on OSP
Do san antonio next please
I am spurs fans from indonesia
I know austin and houston from utube
But the city and the story of san antonio isnt getting enough exposure
Thats the request, thank you anyway ❤
Fire Cal and Fire Woodson 🔥
Don't forget John R. Wooden
J KYLE MAN IS A KENTUCKY NATIVE!?!!?!
No love for Thad Matta! 😢
to go to terre haute and not west lafayette in the peak of Purdue’s powers is crazy
Maybe ISU and Larry Nerd is more fun and better story
Purdue doesn’t represent us, fuck em
You go to New Castle Indiana and don't go to the highschool gym. Major let down
Chilis got as much time as Butler and Hinkle
upset we never got a Rob Dillingham video... come on JKM!
is for me?
If you’re talking all-time NCAA one-man teams, you gotta include Bill Bradley taking Princeton to a Final 4.
Purdue damn well could win the NCAA Title this year, but they get the "And how about Marla Hooch....what a hitter!" Treatment. Poor Boilers.
In all seriousness, I'm glad Caitlin Cooper got a well-deserved shoutout. She's awesome and does a great job teaching folks and showing folks what to look for when watching the Pacers. Now, if Tyrese could just get that Hamstring fully back healthy....that'd be great.
Not going to Purdue is criminal, but I think you’ll be back.
But did you have any pizza king?
whose here after purdue lost
Typical take on Indiana basketball with no mention of Purdue, which has dominated CBB in the country for the last 3 years .
Really well thought out. Incredible how bad some of these content providers are. Didn't really expect anything less from the Ringer though, Bill Simmons has always hated the Colts and is a known Homer. Just ask Lakers and Yankee fans.
This was so funny, but why did I have to seek it out myself, get your sh!t together youtube, i've liked the last 20 J Kyle Mann videos, you could at least recommend the new ones to me. /rant
ISU got robbed. They should been in the tournament
Steve Martin is right though. I went to college in Terre Haute and that place totally is the most nowhere place in America. No disrespect to Vicki, of course.
"We like our butts the same way we like our earth, and pancakes." -Indiana
Its very flat in many ways.
Comes to Indiana to make a mini doc on basketball in the state, spends almost 6 minutes talking NBA, 0 minutes on high school ball. That ain't it man, this isn't Kentucky.......
Okay nevermind, Purdue student here. PU > IU :)
IU hates Kentucky MUCH more than Kentucky does IU. Kentucky really doesn't even think about IU now that the yearly game is no more. Source: lived my whole life in Indiana, but went to UK.
IU sucks
Hot take Illinois is a better basketball state
That’s why it’s a hot take
Indiana almost claimed my life and car all 3 times I drove into the heart of the state I’ve been turned away by awful weather. Truly miserable experiences from Indiana always. Kentucky isn’t flat and is way prettier.
To do a feature about the heart of Indiana basketball and your only Purdue inclusion is a mention of "pooping their pants" is uninformed and lazy.
If 5 of the last 7 Sweet Sixteens with 2 Elite 8s is pooping your pants, a ton of schools would die for those results. Yes, there have been a couple of fluky losses in there but that record is hardly "pooping your pants".
Man it ain't fair, jkyle makes some of the ringer's best videos, love them so much and yet bill has him relegated to this side channel. Didn't even know this came out. Makes no sense
