It used to piss me off so much that in both Road Warrior and Fury Road they destroy the Interceptor, the very ride of Max himself. However, then I started thinking from a storyteller's perspective, and it actually made more sense. The story wants Max to interact with other people, have a chance to bond and form various relationships, some good, some bad, but above all else, he can not be allowed to remain a loner. If that happened the story would go nowhere. And the Interceptor is the one thing that allows Max to drive away from people, to remove himself from the story and just remain an outcast with nothing and no one to interact with. So from the narrative point of view, I understand perfectly why it has to be done. But it still hurts when that machine is trashed... every. single. time.
Thanks for this awesome behind the story. I'm a 47 years old Brazilian dude. I started to love V8 and this type of cars because the two Mad Max movies. I took the bus to go home after high school classes and, very often, I went two bus stops ahead just to see a rare Pontiac Trans Am in a car dealership. V8 cars are extremely rare around here...
What a legend, awesome video man. I'm not a emotional guy but I waited so patently for fury road to come out and then within the first minutes see the Interceptor destroyed it really tugged at my heart strings.
Great video mate, gives a great in-depth history of the cars and fills in a lot of questions that people often ask. Glad to have helped with some info. A couple of things I MUST mention is that whilst I did do most of the car as shown, there were certainly others on the crew who played instrumental parts in getting the car on screen. The set Dec team did an amazing job dressing the car, they also should take credit for the rag tyre, I came up with some ideas that you mentioned but ultimately those guys/girls perfected the look and made it work, well beyond what I could have ever done. The scenic artists under the direction of Martin Bruveris added the patina and weathering to the paint which really bought the car to life (or close to death as it appears). Also others on the Action Vehicle crew did mechanical work on the car, particularly in Namibia (as I finished up in Sydney) keeping it running and upgrading other parts like the ignition, etc. As much as I’d like to take credit for the whole car there was definitely many others who had input to get it on screen for that brief 1:24. :) Keep up the great work.
1:24 of screen time. What a massive waste of effort and machinery. And what a massive tease for all the loyal fans who patiently waited decades. Like why even bother resurrecting the iconic hero car only to have it humiliatingly hunted down and pillaged in the opening scene of the movie? What on earth made Miller think that would be a good idea? Was it written this way solely to make you feel like your massive amount of work was for nothing? Or was it written this way to specifically upset the loyal fanbase by literally/figuratively deconstructing the films iconic car and its entire universe? As an award winning classic car mechanic and body restoration professional I absolutely love what you and the crew did with the distressed state of the car, especially the details like the minor front and rear bumper damages indicating Max had already been playing wasteland bumper cars even before Fury Road starts, and the rough improvised looking cutout in the hood for the blower. Also the heavy black smoke effect indicating that both the Scott injection system is running rich and that the engine is burning oil trying to keep up with being supercharged while also used as primary transportation. And also the improvised cloth tent/shelter hanging from the roll bar, the improvised runflat/treadcap tire, the fact that the worst tire is on the right rear as it would be on a powerful RWD car, and the fact that the extra fuel tank is in the left rear to offset the weight of the driver. All this wasted attention to detail that we have to buy the DVD and pause to notice is why I can't stand the fact that Miller squandered all your hard work and exploited the hopes of everyone who came to see the car. People can try to justify it but I didn't wait patiently for 20 years just to be duped into paying to see the car get destroyed in the opening credits. I would have rather seen a whole new story without the car than see it get trashed so soon. Honestly Miller should feel ashamed for exploiting our loyalty/enthusiasm. When I build my supercharged BOB/Interceptor its going to be based on film 2 because Fury Road is simply a reboot wherein Max is both literally and figuratively just a passenger in someone else's vehicle.
@@Impactjunky I'm glad you and many other fans noticed the finer details that went into the cars. The main reason George Miller wanted the Interceptor in the film, particularly right at the beginning of the film was to help tie the film into the Mad Max universe, the car, and max's jacket are essentially the two key items that people instantly recognise as being Mad Max, so the car needed to be there. It would have been nice if the car got more than a minute of screen time but at least it does come back for a bit longer in its Razor Cola form.
@@Restoprep Yeah sorry for venting on you so hard. I do legitimately love what you did with the car. Obviously that's why I'm so bothered by the lack of screen time. Thanks for taking the job so seriously though. The effort you put into the car helped immensely with "world building" and to keen eyes the car even tells a story all its own. Thus I mean you no offense when I say it was wasted effort.
Also one thing I'd like to clarify: A lot of people are saying that the game by Cory Barlog and George Miller actually came out. That's not true. It never came out. What came out was a different game made by Avalanche Studios and WB without George Miller's involvement. The game by Avalanche Studios and WB is roughly based on the story from the comic books and borrows heavily from other backstories by George Miller without his permission, so it contains spoilers from the upcoming Furiosa which George Miller would've never allowed to be published in a game. Hence, George Miller distanced himself from that game, you won't find his name in the credits nor anyone else's who worked on Fury Road.
As an American, I actually had a XB Ford Falcon coupe, with a 351 Cleveland and the whole 9 yards. I got an offer too good to refuse and sold it to Mad Max Cars in Washington state. I have a lot of cars but that is one I do miss.
Original car from movie 1 and 2 is in Dezerland museum in Orlando, FL. Car has some history and what it went through but they saved it and is in car museum. I am Max fan, and I went to see it and of course took bunch of pictures and videos with car
Thank you for this fantastic profile on the Interceptor, very enjoyable for a 60 year old fan who enjoyed every iconic film in the series on the big screen upon their exciting release! Keep up the exceptional content my friend!
Something that I love about Max's character is that he knows how to drive his car but not how to take car of it. This was also brought up a few times in the game. (Even though the game isn't a great depiction of the Mad Max story, I do believe that it's a great depiction of Mad Max himself).
Well in the beginning of Mad Max, Max is working on the distributor and cleaning his hands with Swarfega, so I do not agree that he does not understand car maintenance.
Toecutter: quit toying with him bubba:bubba z: easy I know what I'm doing!! I don't know about you but in the first movie you get the feeling that bubba and toecutter are kinda like Hitler and Himmler, toecutter may have been the boss but bubba was the quite ,in the shadows brains of the gang
@@jonathancox1231 The only time i think he even raises his voice is after vehemently protesting about collecting Johnny the Boy from the Bronze. Essentially calling Johnny dead weight.

Bubba Zanetti, has it on good authority. She's sent by the Bronze. Full of treachery! The Bronze....take our pride."
Your conclusion is touching; it's sad the hero car was destroyed. But I think it doesn't get more Mad Max than that. For something so beautiful and important to be destroyed so unceremoniously. And then for the stunt car to be forced into the spotlight, and get beaten up in the process, a slow noble death. I think that's poetic. Colosally brilliant video.
Astonishing in-depth look to one of the most iconic movie-props in history. Or dare I say, supporting character. The Interceptor means so much to Mad Max and his perception
I am a Mad Max fan from the days of old and while I really loved Fury Road, I guess I thought of it more of a alternate story than a continuation of the original films, and I certainly didn't read any of the comics. I took Fury Road as it was and enjoyed it immensely, with the game as a prequel. Despite that, the end of the Interceptor always rubbed me the wrong way. Even if Max was a loon there was just no way a bunch of other loons could catch the last of the V-8 Interceptors. But now I've just learned it really was a continuation of the series, meaning this was the THE V-8. Well this really softens the blow (as it were). Thank you.
Oh what a video! What a wonderul video! Seriously, your work here is outstanding. The editing, the research... I can definitely see how this took 2 months. The story of and behind these movies is so interesting, and there is nobody I've seen who's told them better than you.
Just found this channel. I saw The Road Warrior in the theater when I was 12 years old and just like Raider's of the Lost Ark, it was my favorite movie in the first 5 minutes.
This interceptor is the reason why I own two dodge challenger.. since I was a kid and saw this movie I fell in love with that car and the retro design reminds me of that classic beauty..
A Mad Max TV show could actually work very well, it could add more depth and lore about it's characters, factions and locations while still being entertaining.
Dude you did a GREAT job with this video.. So many Pursuit Special videos with all the lore and stuff but you dug EXTRA deep and put some info in there that I didn't know!.. Great Job man!
And you're officially one of the greatest/underrated automotive TH-camrs now. I don't think Top Gear could do this much detective research for a movie car's backstory.
Same here. The crazy part is how far that idea went! As I was researching it just kept going back and back until the 80's. I know George Miller likes to hold on to ideas but this was something else.
Even though it isn't canon, honestly considering how much it seems to line up with the canon story and explains so much, I like to think it's at least closed to what happened. It has such great content that shows and establishes the collapse of the old world and the stark contrast between it and the new one, along with explaining a lot of what got Max to where he is at the beginning of Fury Road.
Excellent video and details about the car etcetera! Interesting and fun while a bit depressing how such work by all involved especially George Miller had to wait or scrap plans or parts of his true vision! Did that fabricator who built the three cars get in trouble for breaking union rules? My older brother is a welder/ fabricator who has worked on several Hollywood films etc and he tells me stories about rules on things that make the Mafia seem tame... Mad Max and his Interceptor was one of my favorite movie cars when I was a early teen! Thanks for the memories!
The attention to detail in the production of these movies, culminating in Fury Road, is so amazing and admirable. The touches that no-one would see, the explanations for changes down to the wheel rim sizes, and the dedication to the story that would have the “hero car” be used and destroyed in the stunt. I mourn that that hero car isn’t out there in a museum where we could marvel at it and all of its details, but these choices are exactly why Mad Max feels like a real world with real stakes and consequences. When you’re willing to sacrifice a quarter-million dollar prop representing hundreds of hours of labor, that dedication to storytelling comes through to the watcher. It’s how a “car” movie with little dialog can be so moving.
@@SwedishEmpire1700 - Ok, fair enough. I agree that Mad Max 2 was the high-point of the series generally, though I personally feel Fury Road to be the high-point of the production. The vehicles, props, and attention to detail in that movie was really something special. For instance, the interiors of the vehicles (aside from Max’s pursuit special) were never really highlighted before whereas this film included hand made iconography throughout that made the cult of Joe feel like something beyond the band of mercenaries who had coalesced around Humungus. For example, I appreciated the hammered metal interior of Furiosa’s truck and the locking accelerator made from (I believe) a foot measurer from a shoe store. But, yes - the culminating movie has to be the Road Warrior, I agree.
This video means so much to me. My cousin and I used to literally attempt to replicate these cars, best we could back in the hood. He passed some time ago but man...those Mad Max Marathons on a Saturday afternoon in Queens, NY...Most excellent content!❤🔥

You’re doing an incredible work bringing these videos to us. Thank you so much. Mad Max is my favourite saga ever and your videos literally give me life. Thank you again and keep doing so well. Very big hug from Spain.
Surprised that you never mentioned the Mad Max game, because it follows the broad strokes of what the TV series was going to do. You spend your time collecting parts and building up your car by trade or raid. It's also an incredible game outright, a reskinning and retooling of the excellent Shadow of Mordor games. Excellent combat, good story, amazing driving, and enough customization to make a Armored Core fan blush.
I’m incredibly impressed with the levels of research you put into this. I like to think I know a bit about the films, until I watch one of your efforts. Huge thanks, please keep them coming. 👍👍
You touched on the Vertigo comic in the game breakdown but analyzing where it all came from and how "canon" it all is would make for a solid video. Especially as you could bring in some info from the anime that the Furious film now moved away from.
Great video! I'm researching this version of the Interceptor because I'm scratch building a body for HO scale slot cars. I already have the "Pretty" Mad Max and the worn down Road Warrior versions.
This is great to see, I've been working on a kit bash model of doing a 68 Chevy Camaro as a GMC version of a Pursuit Special. I was going to utilize a Pontiac Fomula 400 engine with a Tripower. But...when I heard about the Dodge Darts used 427s with Six Packs? Thats when the bold builder in me said: "Fuck it, it they can do 427s with a Six Pack? I'm doing 454 with a Tripower baby!" Yup still building model and I love it. Had to chop Camaro front subframe for a Nova to fit the engine.
After watching furiosa trailer i am here...what a lovley day! I feel sorry for the interceptor at the beginning of fury road ford falcon great review good job
Wow, been waiting for this video for so long! love it :) Really happy to have my question answered about why it wasn't a manual, I know it wasn't much but I love that you included it :D

Great job, man! I loved the video! Is there information available about the chrome version of the Interceptor that the Warboys drive during the war rig escape? And what happened to him after the movie? Could this be a video suggestion? Thanks for the work, dude! A hug from Brazil!
I get that he wanted to use the more powerful stroker engine vehicle. It was probably his final stunt for a series he's extremely passionate about and I too would want to go out on film that way. I just wish he would've crashed up the 351 that was meant to be trashed. I get bummed out watching movies destroy old classic iron. Because they ain't making anymore 19- somethings. Very well done and entertaining video. 10/10 would watch again. Thank you, and everyone else's hard work involved on the video.
I like to think the canonical reason why Max got his Interceptor back was by backtracking the way he went and salvaging as many parts as he could, and then weld them together with whatever other similar pieces he found out there in the wasteland, explains the different colors and rusty parts of the car. Also I love the look of sheer obsession that Max gives Slit as they open fire on each other during the final chase, kinda hope they would show more of this unhealthy obsession, as that car is a literal symbol of a new life for Max.
As usual it's an incredible video lad ! I can't imagine all the work/ research behind the video . Do you have any news or update concerning furious ? Cheers all the way from France !
they did it to spite the male fans who wanted to see max behind the wheel again , they chose furiosa to be the one to drive cool vehicles from now on while max is a passenger in his own movie
Thank you for this video! I have been obsessed with this car for 40 years, since I first saw it roar to life in the MFP garage - "Kick it in the guts, Barry!". Outstanding documentary, thanks!
Holy shit!!!!! I have watched The Road Warrior more than any other movie, even frame by frame on the VHS I purchased new and literally wore out and I never noticed the fuel filler cap flipped open on the opening chase. I literally got chills when the music from the 1st MadMax played during this video. This is a very thoroughly put together video.
Mel was planned for the role, but by the time the film started production he was already too old apparently. Personally I think it still would have worked but I wasn’t there so I can’t speak for the film makers. That being said the practical effects, writing, and world building of fury road are absolutely brilliant with or without the brilliant acting of Mel Gibson.
Wow. How this ended up in my stream I will never know. But I did own a 1970 Torino GT, which is based or was based on the Falcon body style. I drove in while in High School in 1986-87. It was the only reason I was somewhat popular. The stories that car could tell. Sadly I traded in for an Rx-7 (more of a college car) and kicked myself ever since. This video was incredible with the knowledge. Made me miss that car even more.

Keep up the great work.
@@Impactjunky All good mate, I didn't take it in that way at all. :)
Also one thing I'd like to clarify:
A lot of people are saying that the game by Cory Barlog and George Miller actually came out.
You had one in America how
Original car from movie 1 and 2 is in Dezerland museum in Orlando, FL.
Always an inspiration, Bible! You out do yourself in ever aspect of production, video after video! I am so grateful to be along for the ride!
You are so welcome!
The inteceptor,my onw favorite mad max car😎
Great video , the XA and XB Ford Falcons are one of my favourite cars , probabky made even rarer with these MAD MAX films
"if you can't fix what is broken you'll go insane." - Mad Max
I am not even a huge fan of the movies, but couldn't stop watching this documentary. Outstanding piece of work.
Your knowledge of Mad Max is amazing. Would love to hear the Bubba Zanetti story.
Seconded. Dude is the most stoic of all the Zed Runners. Right up there with Max and his all of sixteen lines in the whole film. =]
Bubba Zanetti "Joviality is a game of children."
Toecutter: fires shotgun. "Mud guts! Get out of there! Candalini! Put her against the post! We, have a problem here. She is not what she seems.
The amount of detail put into these cars is amazing, truly beautiful.
Thanks for covering this video with such passion and accurate details!
Welcome back, Mad Max Bible! Let's ride fellow Wastelanders!
Come along, let's roll!
Mediocre!!
Witness!!!!!
My brain is very dirty
Oh what a day
I am a Mad Max fan from the days of old and while I really loved Fury Road, I guess I thought of it more of a alternate story than a continuation of the original films, and I certainly didn't read any of the comics.
Wow, thank you!
I did not know about the broken headlight cover's shape. That's a great piece of trivia!
One of my favorite franchises.
This car has always been a part of my "Movie/TV Want Car List".
Love it.
Thanks for that great video history.
I need another mad max yap sesh please 😭
Just found this channel. I saw The Road Warrior in the theater when I was 12 years old and just like Raider's of the Lost Ark, it was my favorite movie in the first 5 minutes.
If you've played the game it also gives a pretty good explanation on how Max could've rebuild the interceptor
Honestly fits with the story, we all hope just like max that our interceptor is still out there waiting for us
Man i just watched furiosa its amazing , hope your doing good
This interceptor is the reason why I own two dodge challenger.. since I was a kid and saw this movie I fell in love with that car and the retro design reminds me of that classic beauty..
seeing $9500 for a falcon coupe hurts considering their prices today
Clearly you did a load of research for this video. Good job putting all that info together too!
A Mad Max TV show could actually work very well, it could add more depth and lore about it's characters, factions and locations while still being entertaining.
There was supposed to be an anime I believe
One of my favorite WTF scenes is Max hitting the button on the shifter that engaged the supercharger.
Man, the in universe story and Miller wanting to show Max building the car makes me wish that the Mad Max 2015 game was canon to the movies
Wow, what an excellent synopsis and the details are incredible. Huge fan of Mad Max after seeing the Road Warrior on VHS tape when I was a kid.
Extremely excited for the Furiosa trailer, equally excited for the next MMB video
This is the best documentation I've ever seen on these vehicles. Top job!!
This video means so much to me. My cousin and I used to literally attempt to replicate these cars, best we could back in the hood. He passed some time ago but man...those Mad Max Marathons on a Saturday afternoon in Queens, NY...Most excellent content!❤🔥
This car makes the FnF Charger look like a kid's car. It's just really badass.
THANK YOU! LONG LIVE TO THE INTERCEPTOR!!!
As a Mad Max fan since the 80's, this is a great bit of history behind the the Interceptor
Original car from movie 1 and 2 is in Dezerland museum in Orlando, FL. Car has some history and what it went through but they saved it and is in car museum. I am Max fan, and I went to see it and of course took bunch of pictures and videos with car
Dude, I was randomly googling and this popped up. Thank you, I'm not even a car guy and I was enraptured by it all. Thank you, so much! The detail and skill has been witnessed.
Amazingly detailed story of the car and it's origin. Great work mate!
Wow! Seriously impressive video. The attention to detail is above and beyond most videos on TH-cam.
Soo glad to see you back, man!
This was *such* a satisfying video, so informative, thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Mad Max Is A Piece Of Art
Mad max is arguable the best Australian movie series, out of any other movie and possibly even moreso then hollywood.
looking forward to hearing your thoughts on furiosa
You touched on the Vertigo comic in the game breakdown but analyzing where it all came from and how "canon" it all is would make for a solid video. Especially as you could bring in some info from the anime that the Furious film now moved away from.
Great video! I'm researching this version of the Interceptor because I'm scratch building a body for HO scale slot cars. I already have the "Pretty" Mad Max and the worn down Road Warrior versions.
That’s really cool! Would love to see videos of those cars especially racing on a track!
I can't believe I'm just finding this channel. This is the greatest Mad Max Channel, bar none.
Thanks for taking the time, and making the effort to create these videos💥👊😎
The mad max game goes hard af and rebuilding the magnum opus is awesome
Ah man! So much great content in this video! Also much needed recognition to the real people who put in the hard work for the films.
WOW... Unreal story! Amazing video!!
Thats when the bold builder in me said:
"Fuck it, it they can do 427s with a Six Pack? I'm doing 454 with a Tripower baby!"
Yup still building model and I love it. Had to chop Camaro front subframe for a Nova to fit the engine.
Your channel is great man!
I think the intercepter was built again with shiny bodyparts it was used in the fury road and had quite a few scenes there was scene where max says," they took my blood now they have my car!!!!"
The production of your video is incredible. Thank you so much!
I’ve waited about 3 years for this vid thanks for sticking to your word
TH-cam is the closest thing we have to a Time Machine.
Just watched the movie last night for the nth time! Your video adds a lot of welcome depth to the story. ♥️🛠️💥
You missed the chromed interceptor that was rebuilt in fury road, max even yelled That's my car.
It's not in this one because it's going to get it's own entire video
MAD MAX 2 BEGINNING STILL RULES ALL.... OG
Wow, this is the first time I hear about the TV series. Thanks for delving into the lore!
the quality of this video is insane. my favourite part is the 3d model transitions between real photos
Glorious video as always ! Keep up the amazing work :D
I had to share this video I watched from a channel I'm subscribed to, it gave me goosebumps, he's a car and mad Max fan. Beautiful work 💞.
where are you man? whats going on?
Cheers all the way from France !
furiosa *
Hey, glad you liked the video! Yeah, they're filming reshoots now. Not much to report on besides that!
@@MadMaxBible okkk thx ;)
Beyond Thunderdome is the one I really remember. Seen it sooooo many times, but haven't seen it in probably 20 years. Awesome movie 🤘🤘🤘
PLEASE RETURN AND TALK ABOUT FURIOSA AS WELL CONTINUE DOING THE TIMELINE VIDEOS
Why tf didn't I get a notification for this, this here is my favorite channel on TH-cam
R u going to talk about furiosa: a mad max saga?
This is an extremely in-depth and detailed video on the series. I am blown away at all the research and presentation put into this video! Kudos!
they did it to spite the male fans who wanted to see max behind the wheel again , they chose furiosa to be the one to drive cool vehicles from now on while max is a passenger in his own movie
Thank you for this video! I have been obsessed with this car for 40 years, since I first saw it roar to life in the MFP garage - "Kick it in the guts, Barry!". Outstanding documentary, thanks!
Max isn't max in fury road. I feel like tom hardy is the furry kid that uses the name as max
I like that
If I remember correctly Milar has stated he likes that theory but it's not what he intended
No. The feral kid was the narrator of the road warrior and says he became the leader of his group.
@@jsnification yes “max” was a leader of a group if he’s having flash backs of people
Holy shit!!!!!
Fury Road was really disappointing imo. Wasn’t the same without Mel
You are an absolute hero for making this. I pieced some of this together myself but nowhere near what you've got here. Thank you!
That was very impressive, well done.
