One of my favorite Theories for MAD MAX is that Max's irradiation caused his cells to reach near perfect Homeostasis making him Biologically Immortal letting him be 80, 90, or even a Hundred Years old by the time of Furry Road and I absolutely love it, it gives him FAR more time to fester on his anger and hate, letting him be far more insane or MAD then one would be from such relatively short times in the Wastes.

i always assumed that the nuclear war took place between the 1st, and 2nd film. So, by the time we meet Max, the Gryo Captain, Papagllo, the global conflict, had already occurred. In the Road Warrior, there are a few oblique references to this. Humongous says, we all lost someone we loved, which I took to be a reference to the global war and its effects. No one in the refinery for example, ever mentions any kind of organized, civil government or society that might still exist or be functioning either in Aus, or anywhere else. In the RW, we can we safely assume that what gov't that still existed in Mad Max falls between the events of MM and the RW and AS a result, of either a limited, or full nuclear war. In Beyond Thunderdome we see fallout from that event is still easily detectable in groundwater. The timeline is even more wacky with Furiosa. The first trailer for the movie states that young Furiosa was kidnapped 45 years after the fall. Which means there’s probably another 20+ years until Fury Road. So Tom Hardy can’t be Max Rockatansky because he’d be in his 80s or 90s. Which lends credence to the theory that this Max is the feral kid from The Road Warrior. Or you could go with the theory that these are all just folk tales passed down which get murkier and murkier with every retelling.

Fate brought me here. Was talking to a friend about Mad Max and got curious if anyone had done a video essay on them all and hell. This was uploaded yesterday
I was first watching the mad max movies as a kid and i was confused as hell that the gyro capt from the road warrior and the pilot from thunder dome werent the same person even though bith played by Bruce Spence and both were pilots. The first time i saw thunder dome in the beginning i was like WTF why is he robbing Max. He saved his life in road warrior. It still drives me crazy
Well for a start.. Max is NOT a hero, it’s a good hearted guy, caught in the dissolving society , a guy trying to survive and failing to save many people that he loved. I think on the last movie they summarise this very well, he is just reduce to a simple instinct now.. to survive
max was so fueled with madness after his family, it permanently changed his dna to fully embody madness, itself becoming madness incarnate, living forever in a never ending release of rage that will never end, cursed to roam the earth taking it out on the harsh fury road. Naw im high as hell right now 😂
@@davidd.6448It is confirmed to be canon though by the director of the upcoming Furiosa movie. + Chumbucket will make an appearance. Also, I'm quite certain that in the scene Max is hallucinating in Fury Road, he briefly hallucinates Glory, from the game.

Thank you so much for putting it all together! I watched all the MM from before but did not understand Fury Road and had not read the comics. Now I get it. Awesome work!! And I hope to see the Interceptor once again in the dystopian future.
I’ve never seen these movies before but the first one looks like a biker gang 80s action movie. By the third one it looks like a completely different universe
Very good summation mate. I love the raw, low budget grittiness of the first 2 movies. The 3rd one was quite a bit more Hollywood but they still managed to keep most of the original raw tone. Fury Road was full Hollywood and it looks like Furiosa is too. I know Fury Road has high scores and seems to be well liked but I would've loved if they kept that raw, realistic tone with the Mad Max universe. I know they tried but Hollywood doesn't know how to do that
Max actually got over to the US, working on a caravan that was trekking to The Hub on the west coast of America via the exposed seabed and is seen going into the Scumm Bar in Junktown, southern California, along with his dog.
Do you think it's possible that the number that was tattooed on him was referencing Max's age? Since it would have been 30ish years prior, that could be how they are thinking about age in general, not just the days since the fall.
Mad Max is the greatest film ever made, for proof just look how many times people reference it, and take ideas from it and the art Style, and even the story, in movies, TV shows, video games and music, books, comics and mangas.
In my opinion, the wars go nuclear between Road Warrior and Thunderdome. In MM, society is breaking down. There is still law and order in the cities, but in the outback it's breaking down. The movies shows public transport, a legal system, shops selling icecream and other normal aspects of society. In RW, all law and order is broken down by the drain of ongoing total conventional war. There's no longer any police forces, no communications, and everyone left alive is surviving in gangs or in clans, like the refinery. Between RW and Thunderdome the war goes nuclear, destroying any remaining vestiges of civilisation in the cities, polluting the air and contaminating the water. Fallout is mentioned by the waterseller in Bartertown.
13:48 Ahh, yes tempt Max with the coast, a region he left after the first movie, probably for reasons. But also similar to in Fury Road when he knows there's nothing but sand wastlands in one direction, salt flats in another (seems the sea-level dropped, possibly the salt flats, at least based on the game)
The Max in Fury Road is the feral boy in Mad max 2. It's indicated by the music box, boomerang, and his lack of speech and more grunts. I'm assuming he named himself after his hero
I also read a fan-based theory that Emil Minty's Feral Kid was Hardy's Max. Many clues in Fury Road hint at Minty beginning as an adult version of Max, and before he returns to become the leader of the Great Northern Tribe, he has many adventures. Gibson's Max may have become some Apocalpyptic knight or Samurai, roaming the wasteland while battling many evil foes. Thus, many "adapt" his look (the Bronze leather uniforms or pieces, including surviving look-alike V8 Interceptors). I know Miller has rejected this idea, but this fan-based concept tightens things up for the MM timeline.
It got to my mind the idea to write an epic poem about the legendary mythology of Mad Max lore, something reminiscing the ancient civilization of Australia, maybe how some marine gods enraged by the greed of humans on oil took all the seas away from them leaving only sands and dunes. Narrating of the tales of the gods, the heroes (like Max) and the humans like Homer or Ossian
For anyone wondering furiousa was away for 7000 days which is equivalent to 19.17 years ( excluding leap years) so it would explain why they passed it once but it always explains how bad the radiation of the world is
I took it as the nuclear war distorted Time Space and by Thunderdome Max was close to 100. Those that were alive before the war are ancient having been closer to where the time distortion took place. Where events out in the wasteland moved at a different rate. So what seemed to Max as 30 years was more like 60 years out in the waste.
I watched this whole video thinking the voice was AI, mostly because of how he pronounced semi as "Sem-me". But nope, actual dude. Well done old bean. Have a sub.
One of my favourite head cannons is that Max in Fury Road is the child from Mad Max 2, the timeline would line up better (still not perfect), Fury Road Max only calls himself Max not Max Rockatansky

Same💯🙏😎
this was so captivating to watch dude. excellent work! Cant wait to watch your other stuff now
We'll See you on the Road Skag!! We'll See you like we saw Knightrider!! That part still gets me amped. 😤
Please never stop doing this ❤
Fate brought me here.
Was talking to a friend about Mad Max and got curious if anyone had done a video essay on them all and hell.
This was uploaded yesterday
They can bring in who ever they want, but without that car you don't have a mad max movie.
And that’s a fact .
Word
@jose: The franchise is about the legend of Mad Max. That stupid car, like all the vehicles, is a perk/eye candy; not a feature.
True @@MorpheusOne
the car that gets destroyed instantly in fury road? yeah it’s still mad max. but god damn I love that car
I never knew how these all connected and now I do! Thanks for the breakdown and explaination!
I was expecting things to be messier that's more cohesive than I thought. I love a good timeline breakdown.
I just realized Max’s dog is Bluey’s dad Bandit 😮😅
Mel Gibson is MadMax, the Road Warrior, Raggaty Man
Well for a start.. Max is NOT a hero, it’s a good hearted guy, caught in the dissolving society , a guy trying to survive and failing to save many people that he loved. I think on the last movie they summarise this very well, he is just reduce to a simple instinct now.. to survive
Well done. Great pacing and great visuals. 👍
A BIG TAHNK YOU for AMAZING JOB you did to put all this together!
max was so fueled with madness after his family, it permanently changed his dna to fully embody madness, itself becoming madness incarnate, living forever in a never ending release of rage that will never end, cursed to roam the earth taking it out on the harsh fury road. Naw im high as hell right now 😂
I’m high as hell reading this 😂😂😂
Perfect video! Thank you for your hard work i enjoyed the whole video
Outstanding job with this video. Thank you
Game Storyline likely be between Furiosa Events and Fury Road
Dope I just finished the ape video which was a good recap so this one will, be a good video
Just did the same route. Fantastic Random on the recommendation page
I thought the whole thing was just multiple people having similar adventures, all get mixed together in the chaos of time.
What about the 2015 video game?!
The game seems to be an alternate retelling of the comic storyline
Amazing game. Only complain when you a 100% your magnum.Opus there's no outpost no enemies to attack
@@davidd.6448It is confirmed to be canon though by the director of the upcoming Furiosa movie. + Chumbucket will make an appearance. Also, I'm quite certain that in the scene Max is hallucinating in Fury Road, he briefly hallucinates Glory, from the game.
You’re right. I love that.
just perfect, no pot holes left!!!
This is a good video, the comic helps to tie in the story together leading up to the Fury Road
The first Mad Max is badass.
i always thought the bush pilot was the pilot guy in thunderdome (same actor but same character) and the kid was the feral boy as a regular kid now lol
The newest entry in the series, absent from this video is the best one of all!!!!
Compared to the last one this one looks like a CGI nightmare, please don’t disappoint
Well done, man. Thank you.
can't wait for Furiosa
one more week
Just watched Furiosa. Really sad at the beginning. Enjoyed the movie Furiosa today. Worth the $8.75 a ticket.
8$? Where do u live and where did u watch it lol, 29$ here in Ontario
@@TheRealBatCave Watched it at Flippers Cinema and Arcade on Taft Street in Hollywood, FL.
@@TheRealBatCave Here in the states movie ticket cost only $8-$12. $29 for a movie ticket? lol
@@louyht7 correct
The wildchild with long hair in thunderdome has taken the monica of max in fury road
Holy fuck. You're brilliant mate. Hope you have much success.
The first movie was the best!
Mad Max is the greatest film ever made, for proof just look how many times people reference it, and take ideas from it and the art Style, and even the story, in movies, TV shows, video games and music, books, comics and mangas.
Looking forward to Furiosa. She will be a hero.
Fantastic video, the movies are brilliant and never get old
13:48 Ahh, yes tempt Max with the coast, a region he left after the first movie, probably for reasons. But also similar to in Fury Road when he knows there's nothing but sand wastlands in one direction, salt flats in another (seems the sea-level dropped, possibly the salt flats, at least based on the game)
There were MANY distracted driving violations in these films !! 😂
Huge thanks Gil. 🙏🏻
You’re welcome! 🙏
I need more mad max stories 100% fury road was so well done we definitely need more especially tom hardy's Mad Max ❤
Hot damn 👍🏾 great job retelling the series
I believe that max was the little boy in road warrior and just took the name after max
The Max in Fury Road is the feral boy in Mad max 2. It's indicated by the music box, boomerang, and his lack of speech and more grunts. I'm assuming he named himself after his hero
It's not, he is the same character played by mel Gibson
There’s so many holes in this theory in the first place good thing George Miller said verified for you goons that this wasn’t the case.
In my head canon Mad Max takes place in the same universe as The Book of Eli and the Road. It makes sense.
We are not worthy of this brilliant series!🙌
Max had a brief appearance in Furiosa 😊
How did they teach the lizard to tie off the rope once it reached the top?
It got to my mind the idea to write an epic poem about the legendary mythology of Mad Max lore, something reminiscing the ancient civilization of Australia, maybe how some marine gods enraged by the greed of humans on oil took all the seas away from them leaving only sands and dunes. Narrating of the tales of the gods, the heroes (like Max) and the humans like Homer or Ossian
You sound like adam corrola haha
Keep up the good work!
Great recap, thanks so much! 👍
That's very thorough
For anyone wondering furiousa was away for 7000 days which is equivalent to 19.17 years ( excluding leap years) so it would explain why they passed it once but it always explains how bad the radiation of the world is
I took it as the nuclear war distorted Time Space and by Thunderdome Max was close to 100. Those that were alive before the war are ancient having been closer to where the time distortion took place. Where events out in the wasteland moved at a different rate. So what seemed to Max as 30 years was more like 60 years out in the waste.
Good video 👍👍
Thank you!🙏
I still love how the actor that played The Toe cutter in mad max also plays imortan joe
I’m convinced that the Max in Fury Road is one of the children he rescued and that he became max in honour of his saviour.
Kind of wish you’d include the video game… but this was great!! Thank you 😁
I’ll add it in v2.0 when I incorporate Furiosa!
I watched this whole video thinking the voice was AI, mostly because of how he pronounced semi as "Sem-me". But nope, actual dude. Well done old bean. Have a sub.
31:54 I can’t take anyone seriously with a garden fork strapped to their face 😂
Thank you for the video really enjoyed it
One of my favourite head cannons is that Max in Fury Road is the child from Mad Max 2, the timeline would line up better (still not perfect), Fury Road Max only calls himself Max not Max Rockatansky
