The Howe & Howe Ripsaw was originally designed to test their track design which is a really good design for making extremely fast tracked vehicle. However, the problem with the track design is low bearing life and tension issues. Basically the tracks dislike fine sand or mud. (I've only seen one video of their machine driving in mud and it's the oldest video of the machine) Their work with the military has been experimental mainly. With remote controlled versions of the vehicle as ground based attack "drones" or load carrying support vehicles for foot soldiers.
Honestly, the head mechanic for the movie seems like an amazing mechanic since he was able to correct the issues with a vehicle built by self proclaimed pros.

They definitely were not building the turbo 400 right or used the improper flex plate and torque converter on that 2 engined car thing. I work with mud trucks that's push 1300 hp with a supercharged 572 big blocks running on 110 and tractor tire the size of my truck and these guys personally prefer the turbo 400 for it's reliability and simplistic design. I have never seen a legitimately built turbo 400 fail how you described it. You would have to slam that thing in reverse going 60 to need to rebuild it every single day. For anyone that thinks my comment is full of crap check out my Instagram page, @will_mitchell_350. Though I don't post about the monster trucks I work with I only run a turbo 400. My jeep cherokee has a AMC 401 pushing 600 hp and I have absolutely beat on that th400. My 85 k20 has a th400 and I also quite a bit hammer on her in first gear at 5200 rpms with my 383 stroker and I have never had a problem with it. It grinds my gears when people make the assumption a th400 cannot handle power and it grinds my gears more when these "Hollywood mechanics" don't know how to do something right for all the money they get paid.

I like the original 80's Mad Max and his car ,this was like a fantasy story , where in a post apocalyptic world would you find cars like this????? , it was very very far fetched.

i like to imagine the mechanics just got too into character. hence why some of these cars are unreliable death traps lol

To quote rick moranis in spaceballs even in the future nothing works (especially a distopian one in this case)

The first drivetrain shouldn't have been hard to source. Competition tow tractors in the US have been known to have up to and maybe more than 5 V8 engines with forced induction connected together to multiply the pulling force. 2 V8's in a w pattern should have been easy.

The Car-mada of this film looks like the result of throwing equal parts West Coast Customs, Mythbusters, and pure edition cocaine into a blender.
