- The Yamaha R1 & R1M platform gives us one of the most beautiful sounding bikes!
With the crossplane engine, Yamaha has created a legend, and for those who are in the market to get some better tones out of their engine, this is the video for you.
The ultimate exhaust guide for the Yamaha R1 & R1M!
Here we'll go over the stock exhaust system, giving you the information for just how to make a bit more power out of the crossplane engine, slip on options and full exhaust options available, ECU flash and tune options, and whether you need a servo eliminator and air filter.
In terms of the stock exhaust system, the first thing to note is that it is in 3 pieces. The header, midpipe, and the muffler. And with the system, the way to get power gains comes from changing the header. Slip ons offer such minor gains, that we think it wouldn't even be noticeable.
So, knowing that, we have to point out that there are no major reputable brands that make a header alone for the R1 & R1Ms. The options to choose from are:
1) A slip on.
2) A half exhaust system. (This is a slip on + midpipe combo, removing the cat)
3) A full exhaust system.
And from the these options, the full exhaust system is where you will find the power gains.
The best options available on the market come from SC Project, Arrow, and Akrapovic. Our personal favorite system is the Akrapovic Evolution GP full titanium system, and is our highest recommended full exhaust for the R1 & R1M!
In terms of a tune, these bikes come so heavily restricted from factory that a BrenTuning flash is recommended because it will be the most transformative mod you would ever do on your bike. The riding experience will be like night and day.

Which exhaust would you choose for your R1? Let us know 👇
Hi bro..how about use suter swing arm.can fit to this akra mid pipe?
If I did full Akra system could I slip on a sc muffler after the fact ?
Thankyou so much for this! Cannot wait till I have my hands on this bike
I watch WSBK with TopRack and i love that you put parts from the pros shop!
Only the best!
Thank you so much for the informative content. Great videos, keep em up!
Thank you! Messages like this keep us going!
Another great video. I got my Akra mid pipe and muffler, Brentune along with the sprint air filter from Motomillion. I love it! Such a difference!🔥🔥🔥🔥
Right on Kenny! That’s enough to transform the bike.
Damn Manny, you are always on point. Thanks. BTW, nice fit!
Thank you!
Amazing video manny 👏🏻👌🏻👍🏻
Thank you!
Another best video on TH-cam
Thank you!
Correction: The R1’s headers are made of titanium too. I know this because I have a 2020.
The new R1, which is what this is, is SS now. I thought they started in 2020, but maybe it was 2021.
As far as we are concerned the current generation bikes come with SS headers. Regardless of the fact, even if it is Ti the benefits are very little since the factory Ti header even it is lighter than the SS one, it is still pretty heavy compared to an aftermarket Ti header. But also the power profile is much different as well from an aftermarket header.
@@Motomillion, how much weight is lost when going from stock SS headers to aftermarket Ti headers?
Thank you sir
For the information ❤
Always welcome
Well done Mani
Thank you!
Can always take apart servo controller under seat and completely remove cables works too aside from servo buddy and tune… great content always “Mani”💪💪💪
Thank you Chris!
thanks Manny, you've listen to our request on making a video about R1 exhaust guide... 👍👍👍👍
There's one thing about Mani and his company that IMO makes him better than his competition! He will not promote or sell anything to you that he want run on his own bike! Oh yea, you can't call up Revzilla and ask them for help on anything they sell you that you might need to ask A question about! The sales reps just DONT KNOW💩!
@@MRR-qv3bw well said.. he knows what he sells..
Thank you guys, I am happy to see people like you take notes on our specialty and our teams ability to give you specific answers and share our knowledge regarding these beautiful machines!
@@Motomillion love your approach on selling.. always giving customers the best options in the market...
👍👍👍
That Arrow though
My Guru!! Manny for President!!!🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
satisfied ❣️
hi, congratulations for the video and your r1, is the exhaust you are fitting a factory model? Right? I also bought a factory one, but it doesn't have the connection for the probes, right? only one on the single tube near the terminal! does it sound like that to you too? thanks in advance for the reply
Dream bike till i die❤❤
How does a Sc Project CRT Exhaust with stock titanium headers (R1M 2016) compare to a full exhaust system with after market headers? Is there really any noticeable power gains in an aftermarket titanium headers vs stock titanium headers?
198.4whp was that with the velocity stacks aswel as filter and full exhaust?
🔥🔥🔥
do you know db of the arrow slip on?
Damn, I ordered the Akra track day slip on , when you say muted .. do you mean its gonna still sound stock?? I got the Akra link pipe aswell
is it very different from the previous generation? (2009-2014)
Nice
Thanks
Very cool video Mani @motomillion.
Is there a different power rating between the regular GP Titanium exhaust vs the World SBK spec exhaust for Yamaha?
What video editing software do you use for highlighting the slip on?
Yes, the WSBK exhaust has different sized piping, and eliminates O2 sensors. Check out our install video for the details! th-cam.com/video/_cjlCFsjhLI/w-d-xo.htmlsi=P9sR_2r-zMQZko9z
We use Adobe Premiere Pro for everything. For that effect, it's just some masking and then keyframes!
@@Motomillion Thanks always @Mani
Hi. I can assure you the 2015-2019 R1 does have titanium headers as stock same as the R1M
But this isn't a 2015-2019. This is brand new. And the base R1 comes with SS since either 2020 or 2021.
New gen bikes come with SS headers.
Hey Manny what about the Graves exhaust and the EVR version?
We mentioned the brands we think that are currently on top of their game.
Hi everyone, currently I’m running a decatted stock exhaust set up on a 2022 R1. Is it true there are catalytic converters on the stock headers? If so will it be ok if I decat them like my catalytic converter box (mid pipe) with stock air filter and no flash?
Oh also I’ve kept the servo open with no servo buddy/eliminator
The R1s in the UK and Europe come with titanium headers. I think the US are stainless steel
Quiet the debated topic. Our previous R1M even came with stainless header from factory.
Yep titanium from factory 👌
Its crazy u cant have a loud exhaust at the track?? Tf is the point in that
my r1 has titanium headers stock its both titanium
No Spark Exhaust?
th-cam.com/video/qE83HRVBsu0/w-d-xo.htmlsi=XXswGFPUJHhz7zlY&t=118
2015 + R1 come with titanium headers but some people have accidentally gotten SS headers and Yamaha has warrantied them to get titanium ones.
2020 and newer did not get the titanium headers anymore.
If you look up the part numbers, 2015-2019 is the titanium part number, 2020-2023 R1's are stainless steel part numbers.
@@Motomillion thats crazy because the new mt10s are now titanium. Maybe they just gave em to the mt10
How would you know?
@ericveal6681 youd probably have to weigh them or look for the heat discoloration that titanium would give
@@gilgaming8417 thank you! I would never have known to even look for that
Def get a tune if u do your exhaust the bike already runs super lean from factory its gonna be worse when u swap exhausts.. why u think yall get flames super easy??
Do for bmw
We already have it done and on youtube.

Bro make videos lower cc bikes like ninja 300 R3 or any 300 cc sport bike…..Couse not everyone can afford higher cc bikes 😢
Plenty of other videos out there for little bikes. This is a high performance shop, dealing in high performance parts.
Not our are of expertise
My 2019 R1 have Titanium headers from Factory. So Thats not true that the R1 not have titanium header and only the R1M have it 😉
We are talking mainly of 2020-2023 bikes here.
@@Motomillion Do you now why the R1 from 2020 - 2023 not have titanium headers ?
Here in Europe both the R1M and R1 from 2015 to 2019 have titanium headers.
Just asked a friend who ride a 2021 R1 about his bike and titanium headers. His is steel header and he also dont now why 🤔🤨🤔
Thanks for you great video’s on TH-cam. Watch them all 😎🛵😎
