      Me too, I'm thinking of buying one and removing the spring, but idk if that would work properly to stay closed

    • @topfueljunkie100
      @topfueljunkie100 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Allan.509It should, it would just turn into a button lock which would be pretty cool! But you wouldn't be able to use the fuller as an opening aid one-handed since you'd have your thumb on the button to release the blade rather than the fuller to deploy the blade. So you might as well keep your thumb on the button and wrist flick it open instead of awkwardly open it part way with a wrist flick then move your thumb to the fuller to open the rest of the way.

    • @topfueljunkie100
      @topfueljunkie100 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@Allan.509The button lock would still operate as normal and keep the blade locked in the closed position if the internals are as I think they are which is the typical Microtech design for this knife.

    As a long time LUDT carrier, it is good to see that you have brought back the best knife you ever produced, I absolutely love mine that I have been carrying for years now but I do question the 3M tape inlays, how long is that going to last being carried everyday and are we going to have the option for the all aluminum handles again?

      @@Griever0121 Sorry, I should have specified, I was referring to the rubbery polymer type inserts that Microtech now uses on their SOCOMs and other models.
      I've never owned a DOC so I'm assuming here, but I bet yours has the older skateboard type grip tape which is like a sandpaper and is stiff and definitely can flake off like you're describing. The newer rubbery type grip inlays stay pliable and as such, shouldn't ever flake off like those stiff sandpaper type inlays do.

    The big question is whether this aluminum knife's pivot has the same fundamental flaw as most on the market. Do the bearings ride on bare aluminum, or is there a steel ring in between?
    Many manufacturers skimp on this, yet it can make or break the longevity of an aluminum-handle auto, especially if it actually gets used and dirt gets inside. Nobody wants to disassemble their knife after every use. Steel rings prevent bearings and blades from slowly wearing out the aluminum podiums inside.
    The first disassembly video will show if Microtech have stepped their game up or not.

      @Laurarium 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@topfueljunkie100 no,it is exactly a sand paper, MT has used such tapes on many other products before. It is the super rough tape often used on walking surface in harsh conditions like fish processing industries, outdoor steps, truck door steps etc. and gun grips for the competition gunners

    • @topfueljunkie100
      @topfueljunkie100 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Laurarium I realize they've used that before but that was on the older models. Newer models like the SOCOM Elite and others have been using a 3M grip tape described as a "soft, thermoplastic elastomer gripping polymer with micro replication technology".
      I've owned both older and newer Microtechs so I know they've used both, but I haven't seen that older skateboard type grip tape stuff on any models in years, they're all using the rubber type grip inserts now.

      @topfueljunkie100 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Laurarium In fact, if you go check out the pictures on knife center you can zoom in and see how it matches rubber grip inlays on the current SOCOM Elite which uses the same exact rubber inlays.
      You should be able to tell when zooming in on it how it's a pock marked rubber surface providing the traction rather than sharp, angular abrasive particles like silica which would basically be like a sandpaper. You can see how the protrusions, ridges, and bumps are all smoothed over and have no sharp, angular edges like an abrasive particle would.

    There are four things here that really piss me off about the newly updated Microtech LUDT!!! First, why the hell would you put a 3M grip tape insert directly underneath the pocket clip🤔 Doing this is not only going to make clipping the knife onto your pants pocket a pain in the ass, but that textured 3M tape is definitely going to cause premature pocket wear🤨 Secondly, why didn't Microtech upgrade the blade steel to magnacut🤔 If not magnacut, then why not S90V or Elmax🤔 Thirdly, I can't stand that weird sharpening notch, it's bigger than a normal sharpening notch yet it's to small and awkwardly shaped to be a functional forward finger choil🤨 The fourth thing is why is there a long fuller in the blade🤔 This knife is a button lock automatic so you can't use that fuller to finger flick the blade open. If you wat to reduce the weight of the blade, instead of adding a fuller how about making the grind much higher👍 Doing that would reduce weight and at the same time make the blade much slicier😁

    Just unboxed my gen 3 ludt and I'm not feeling it at all. The torx screws look huge and horrible..and there are like 6 on each side. Only 3 screws total on the old ludt and only on 1 side. Maybe if they make an all black one it will hide those screws some. I edc a ludt so I was pumped about the gen 3. But now I'm like... these look cheap AF. The clip is a nightmare also. You have to battle your pocket to get it on and off with that 3m tape. I will throw this in a tool bag or something, but it won't replace my old ludt in my pocket. I'm glad I bought 14 of the old ones bc the new one isn't it.

      @@KB-kw8ni I know that. I have nothing wrong with Microtech, love a lot of their knives, in fact. My brain freaks out about certain things to the point that it's just easier to avoid said things than having to listen to it shriek at me to the point I cannot enjoy the knife anyway. Call it OCD, call it a pet peeve, or a tick, but it is what it is. 🙂
