So this totally worked! The old drive in my 360 would not read or open most of the time. I ordered a matching drive model on-line and then swapped the old PCB into the new drive. Thanks for this instruction video!
To answer all questions yes it works ive fixed this issue and rrod for seven years now. On the question about xbox slim youd have to get the same drive as the slim and do this process but yes it works. Thanks
I did the same thing some days ago, worked without problems. You don't need labels on wires, if you look on the pcb there are color labels (Y = yellow, W= white, R = red and B= Black)
did your games start reading again? I got to do the same thing but just need to know if it worked afterwards as I don't want to waste money on a new dvd drive

I just popped in the new disc drive and it worked fine. this is the second time its gone out and now i have to do all this shit. such a pain in the ass. I wonder why it just plugged right in and worked the first time.
How do I know that it isn't my original circuitboard, which is the reason for my DVD-drive not spinning the disks? Would be nice to know if this will make my xbox work again before I buy a new drive :)
with a lt flashed drive, just get exact same drive brand new or 2nd hand then swap the pcb boards over. Its the board thats flashed you see. My laser died on mine i got a new dvd drive and changed boards now im ready to rock again.
I have even spliced every wire lol My cheap ($10 walmart) iron and bullshit non lead solder doesn't help me much. I have a Weller on the way. You made the soldering work look easy. I hope my new (used) station can help my skills. This is definitely the fix or Jtag it. Never think it cannot be fixed.

yes it does work perfectly. If you DONT change the board and jusat try and insertt a new drive in the 360 you will get banned and it will only play dvd not any games. change the pcb over and you wont need dvd crypt key or flash. Each motherboard is linked to a drive you see via a key. no key, no play.

I have a bit of a different dilemna I was hoping an expert could help with..I bought over 100 x360s with the rrod and decided to knock em all out,well I got into 50 of them and being a moron I stacked the DVD drives to the side without noting which went to which and without having to put each one in and test it out is there any kind of matching numbers on each drive I could match up to the proper one or are they all just randomly numbered with no way to match up
WHY did you do this? Is it because the xbox one employs a 8x dvd drive and if you replace it with a 24x dvd drive (BLUE RAY) from your pc, it is okay to be replaced in an xbox one?

Cartman122 Actually it's possible now the i read the comment twice lol. It probably is but you would definetly need basic knowledge in coding to recode the laser and soldering.

so the old drive is the dg-16d2s and the new drive is a dg-16d4s right your just taking the board from the 2s and placing it with the 4s laser
and would i still have to do a key change in order for my games to work

I think I'll be able to pull the dad key from the Xbox motherboard and just flash the key to a new drive
