Renovation of American Lafrance Aerial Rescue Truck Corgi Major No. 1143 Toy Model Cast.

- A Corgi Toys model of an American la France fire brigade in 1 : 43 scale appeared in the catalogue in 1969. The model was very complex in terms of construction. It contained a great deal of construction and equipment. I wonder how much this fire truck cost on the day it appeared in toy shops. Unfortunately, I have not been able to find data on the sale price of this model.
In order to restore this model, I collected one incomplete piece and additionally managed to buy a ladder at a flea market, which provided me with spare parts during the restoration. Courtesy of a friend in the UK, I was able to make a copy of the firefighters and equipment I was missing, as the friend lent me the parts to copy. I made a box that deviates from the original, but includes the graphic elements that are present in the original box.

Congratulations Paul ! this is the most iconic toy in the world and it is priceless . When I found it under the christmas tree , long ago , one wonderful morning, I placed it on a shelf and admired it the whole day without daring touch it ! Eventually I played with it and smashed it like the others because it had so many détails and small parts a kid could brake
. Thank you for carrying me back to this happy memory of childhood !
I’m 58 now and I must have gotten my first Corgi at about 7 -8 years old and the American LaFrance was one of my first, played and loved it dearly, it’s probably melted into something else now

Hello. I got this piece back in the 70's. I didn't play with it much. I still have it in the original box. Haven't seen it in years since it's in a box under the stairs. I hadn't thought about it or seen it in years until I saw your video. Nicely done.

My God, Paul! What a pile you started with! Practically scrap! I wonder if anyone who actually put these things together in the factory, watches them being taken apart and returned to their former glory? It would be hard to do a Code3 on one of these, but I could see it in fluorescent lime green, for an attempt! Great result, both on presentation and perseverance! And the threading? Add patience! Great video.

I remember paying $16 for my Corgi Simon Snorkel in 1975, so I imagine that this model would have cost at least as much if not more-perhaps $25 or so?

As ever your work and the process you follow is excellent, if I get the time from my motorcycle restorations and graphics I would love to have a go, can I make only one point, I would think about using a white base coat or white primer before applying rich colours such as red and indeed the yellow. But I feel you must have made that judgement before starting the Job as it turned out so well.

I want to do a restoration and part is already dismantled but there is a part that I don't know how to do and I remembered if you could help me. It has to do with the letters that are glued to the front and side of the trailer. How are they made? Do you have any video?

Fascinating watch and a great job, but I have to ask... Why do you take molds of original undamaged parts, then make and replace them with reproduction parts? This seems counter-productive to me and unnecessary. Surely we should be trying to save as much of the original toy as we can?

Another excellent restoration Paul, there certainly is a lot of parts to this casting, and you did it perfectly, I know I struggled with the ladder string on my restoration and finding good working gear coges, was also a struggle.

What a colossal undertaking! All those rivets to drill and tap, plus all those castings! The part that mystified me was the stringing of the ladder mechanism! I was lost from the start. The prep and painting was your usual meticulous job...and on a much larger scale. Just a wonderful job, Paul!! Congrats!
There are two loops. First one is with the hand wheel which extends the first flu section. The rope goes undernead the base ladder to the end, then on top of the base ladder to the rear sprongof the first fly ladder. The other part coming from the rubber wheel goes directly to the back of the first section. Now if the steong has gone rou d the rubber a few times there should be enough friction to extend the first ladder.
The second string comes from the tip of the base ladder, over the first ladder to the end of the second ladder. From the end of the third ladder goes a steing underneath the second ladder to the end of the base ladder.
