@yikes5790 I still have the Civil War set, maybe by Marx, I used Linkin Logs to build forts and stuff. I played with these types of sets a lot, my dad would find them and add to my collection.

About 50 years ago, I walked up to the five and dime store in our neighborhood. They had a Marx playset similar to this one for six bucks. A lot of money back then! Pop bought it for me after work that night. I still have the German and American soldiers from that set. This brings back a lot of happy memories.
@JaceDurrani i did even better because I shaked his hand & welcomed him home. Why the home is because I served in the military (granted i didn't leave the USA) but I know the feeling of missing home, which in retrun he knows of that feeling too
Thank you for your comprehensive review of this Battle of the Bulge set and associated figures. I’ve never seen another review that was quite as extensive as yours. Congratulations on being so thorough. I wish I could narrate as well as you. Excellent stop motion as usual.
You know what's really weird? About 5 days ago, I thought to myself "Man, I miss those old, green, plastic army men from when I was a kid." and am not ashamed to say that I was thinking about ordering a bag and then just setting them up on my shelves and whatnot (and probably play with them for a few minutes first). Now, your video pops up for NO reason. I think that's a sign that this man in his thirties should get some. Lmao. That is an awesome set you have as well! Subscribed. Oh, and one more thing. I recently found a PS1 emulator and the first thing I did was find and download all of the Army Men series PS1 games. I was in heaven that night! LOL
That's the battle where my Grandpa was captured and subsequently thrown into a concentration camp for the rest of the war. He was a medic in the 326th Medical Company in the 101st Airborne Division. John Garnich. He hated German Shepherds the rest of his life!
Holy $h1t, dude! Do you recall if he ever spoke about when and how he got home? (I mean yes, I understand eventually friendlies would have reached him... but still.)
@@doctorx2105I THINK he was liberated by the Soviets at the end of the war. He didn't like talking about the war, though. It was rough for him (and plenty of others, of course). @ He hated talking about the war. After eating mud and picking up body parts the first couple of years…and eating maggots and nearly starving those last 6 months in the camp…I guess I couldn’t really blame him. My understanding is that he was liberated from the camp at the end of the war by the Soviet Army. I need to go dig up the information I have to confirm that. I think I have some of his old records indicating exactly which camp he was in as well. There are numerous web pages out there where you can view the After Action reports from various battles. In those reports, they list the soldiers killed, wounded or missing in action.
@@frankschuler2867 I can only imagine the unspeakableness. I cannot say how many times someone will start off speaking about a veteran relative with "They refused to talk about the war."
@ I will say that my other Grandpa, who was a radio operator and self-proclaimed “A-1 Champeen Chaff Chucker” on a B-17 actually liked talking about the war…or at least wasn’t terribly opposed to it. His view was usually literally from 30,000 feet, though. So…with the exception of that one time they got shot down…he wasn’t knee deep in the blood and guts of it most of the time. But, once or twice, he would mention the name of a friend he had lost and his demeanor would change. They were a bunch of kids forced to grow up real quick, and too many of them didn’t get to come home.
Seeing those old playsets is fantastic. I grew up scouring the likes of Kidde City, Toys R Us, Kay-Bee Toys, Karl's Toys and of course the toy aisles of Woolworth's etc looking for those. I can't remember how many times did I have to get advances on my allowance to buy a set like this?

Nice review. I ordered that Battle of Bulge set and just got the Saipan Pacific Theater set. The new figure and vehicles appear to be based in the Classic Toy Soldier sets that BMC must have acquired the molds. They look great. I can add this Bulge set to BMC’s D-Day set and add the Saipan set to the BMC’s Iwo Jima set to make both sets even larger. Battle sets like the old Marx toy soldier sets are great fun.
Great presentation. I wish you had painted everything. That would really make the entire box and its contents come alive. Still nice job. Love to see more.
The best recreatoin for the Battle of the Bulge in cinema must be in the movie PATTON starring George C Scott, with Karl Malden as General Bradley. It captures the scenery and weather conditions spot on.
Nicely detailed set I had to stop and check it out, It took me back to my days when, I had the Guns of Navarone set. Agreed. It I think they should of had the cold gear weather outfits. Thanks Boss
Way back in the 60's I remember getting a similar set at Kiddie World in San Jose but each side only had 2 tanks each, the price was roughly $ 8.00 and if I do remember correctly all of the gun barrels were straight, if I bought this set the crooked barrels would just dive me up the walls.
In 1978 I got a naval battle ships like this when I was a kid. The had subs to shot at each other as a 2 player game. I’ve been looking for years for the name and maker.
I kinda love how the 1/38 Shermans of this set look though. Yes it sucks on the realism and scaling part, but for the casual toy soldier collector the fact that they are sized and match the timmee pattons is nice! Makes them not stand out so much in a green tank squad
I’ll say this, they got the issuance of sidearms correct. US GI’s typically didn’t get a sidearm unless they were in a position where they couldn’t really carry a rifle. The M-1 carbine was often issued in lieu of a pistol. It was really popular with Non commissioned officers and airborne infantry. Though most vehicle crews carried pistols as did machine gun crews. On the German side, sidearms were usually carried by just about anyone but the basic infantrymen. However both sides frequently used captured pistols
Good timing, we're about 6 days away from the anniversary of The Battle of the Bulge. The US figures are actually correct for this battle, since the real troops didn't have proper winter clothing either. 😥
I have a bunch of cts tanks and the detail is great. My only gripe is the stiff plastic the are made from, break very easily. Why not use more pliable durable plastic?

Wow that's a great set. I have bought some BMC sets and soldiers, tanks, etc over the last several years but I think around 70 is the most I've paid for one. The soldiers in this set are MUCH better looking than the ones in D-Day Utah Beach though. Those are flat wonky looking like their helmets are perched too high on their heads. These are some fabulous looking soldiers and poses. At that price it's great the box is so sturdy and nice for storage. I can't justify spending that much on it so I'll just come play with yours. LMAO 🤣
The panzer tank turret with the longer barrel should be able to have a machine-gun in that hole on the hatch. You can flip over the tank to find the machine-gun.
What would have been cool they had different tank models like the German tanks instead of 3 shermans one a M10 tank destroyer , one Sherman , one M36 Jackson tank and one two and half ton cargo truck with tow for the 105 howitzer that came with the set and one Jeep.
