Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Corgi No 266 restoration. 1968 hit film Toy model cast.

- The Corgi company, following the success of the 1968 film Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, released a model of the car that featured prominently in the film. This flying car was very much welcomed by children and the company sold a very large number of copies of this model. It was recently re-released due to the 50th anniversary of the film's entry into cinemas. My model was very damaged. It was missing many parts. Because its construction is very complicated, I could not show in the film all the things I add to the model. I concentrated on doing the work that I don't do very often. I also made the box in which this model went on sale in 1969. I thank you for watching the video, I publish videos of car repairs on Tuesdays and Saturdays. Fond memories of getting one in 1969 , but it drove my parents absolutely potty putting on the front and rear stabilizers when I wanted it to " fly " 😅

This was an unusually finicky, multiple part process. Maestro, your patience level in successfully undertaking this project is like Job. I confess the movie, "Citty Chitty Bang Bang" never was a favorite of mine. That said, your final finished project is wonderful. The box you created is a work of art!! Congrats on a job well done!!❤❤

One of my abandoned projects was this car. I made a large scale version out of wood. I took a screen shot of the design from the dvd extras and re created the blueprint. The carving was a lot harder to do and so awkward it wore me down but I know the car from fenders to picnic basket.
I see the model corgi was similarly difficult. Well done!

Wonderful restoration, of a very good model. I read the book when I was 9 ( 1964 ), written by Ian Fleming, the same author that gave us Bond, James Bond 007. You have a very good eye for detail 👍

Probably one of the most complex restorations you ever present to us.
I have the same model, fortunately complete and in a good original condition. I'd be unable of reassembling such a so complex miniature.

Absolutely brilliant. A very complex model and has to be one of the best 'toy cars' ever produced. That was an amazing restoration, particularly the bonnet repair.
I did get the original model for Christmas back in 69/70? It did survive until my brother gave it away to his mates . I do keep coming across broken examples but I have left them alone because they are such a complex model to restore. Next time I find one it might be on its way to Poland.😅

This brought loads of memories back as I used to have one when I was very young. I got to sit in the actual car when I went to see it at the cinema. I must have been about two or three years old. Must have been the first movie I ever saw. I went with my mum.

I loved those! My Uncle had one he was a kind of collector of interesting old cars, avon bottles, banks etc... He let me hold this as a 7yo and I was enamoroured with it! It such a nice heft compared to my toys, and the detail and working parts were quite enthralling to an early 1070s youth! I've not seen one since his all those years ago, and I'm not sure what ever happened to that thing it was SO cool. Thanks for the memory trip.

I always wanted one of these ever sense I was a Kid, Never was able to get my hands on one. This is AN AMAZING RESTORE! The BOX DETAIL IN PERFECT! I still have my corgy chitty chitty bang bang from a child. It's in good condition but not perfect. It doesn't have any missing parts, it's not dented, however some of the orange paint has come off the wings, a small amount of chipping in the paint & the engine cover, has patchy crome work. No box as well. I also have my original corgy batmobile in reasonable condition, considering how much I played with it as a kid, just slightly cracked windshield & a paint job warn out by hitting other cars.

Beautiful restoration Paul on a ver intricate model. I have the 1:64 Husky version on my bench (literally all over the bench, lol) making repairs and finding replacement parts. It should be finished sometime in October.

I wish I could have had this toy as a kid. Chitty and Herbie were both an obsession for me. Somehow I got my hands on a metal car something like an simplified Model T. I turned it into Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, complete with folding extendable wings. It was short and stubby compared to the real Chitty but it was better then nothing.
Watching this was like my childhood made perfect. This restoration was just beautiful. And of course I love that the eings work. (The nose and tail wings just snap on don't they)
