Instead of reeling in the wacky rig, give it one or two tugs to bring the worm higher into the water column. Then let it fall again with the slack created from those tugs! This way your entire retrieve is letting the wacky rig fall and flail which like you said is when you get the bites most often.

@@JaySunfish of course! I’m no pro but it’s what’s worked for me recently as I’m learning the wacky rig too :)

This is about the only way for the retrieve, it's not meant to be drug on the bottom or reeled in straight. Also, it's not meant to be weedless. Since you are using yamamotos (expensive but best), i would try adding the oring trick and looping it through it and the bait. You will lose a lot of worms just getting stuck on things if you dont do this. You also seem to have put the hook in parallel to the bait, when it should be perpendicular.

Get a Creme worm and nose hook it. The action is crazy. Looks like a real crawler and works well in pressured lakes.

I use a weedless hook to keep the grass off, and I also put a ring on the Senko instead of running the hook directly through it. After my cast, usually I get a hit on the fall, but if not, I give it 2-3 tugs, reel it, 2-3 more, etc. I'll do this in a spot for 5 casts, and if nothing I'll cast to a slightly different spot (or change bait like you did). Also, I have great luck with watermelon/red flakes color. Trial and error.
