It's disturbing how Henry Cavill simply can't catch a break because he has the NERVE to want to make content for people who actually care.
Yeah, the boomers and silent generation that own hollywood and their endless narcissism and paper maché ego's can't handle someone telling them no. Hopefully he can keep this momentum and set precedent for actors and other artists to be able to stand their ground on their artistic integrity more in the future. What's disgusting is that Amazon is too stupid to realize the goldmine they're sitting on here. All they need to do is get their board members and all of their suits out of the way, back off with their diversity requirements and all that garbage, and then just give Henry Cavill complete creative control to make what he wants and be true to the lore. They do that and they'll rake in billions of dollars in revenue. They should be learning from the unmitigated catastrophe that both seasons of Rings of Power have been, after those shows shit all over the source material for the sake of diversity and the "modern audiences."
The mistake everyone makes is assuming Amazon is stupid and this isn't deliberate. They are trading the goldmine to influence culture to fit their ideals. The sooner people realize this the sooner they would quit supporting anything that comes from these kind of companies.

The difference is that we can chose out parts from cheap to expensive (even second hand parts that work amazing) and upgrade them whenever we want depending on what we want in correspondence with our budget. I'm not sure what Amazon expected. I'd be upset too if they went behind my back to tell games workshop to retcon the lore of the adeptus custodes that has always been men. If they wanted women in the show then they could've asked if there are women in warhammer 40k and games workshop should've just told them. "There's the sisters of battle maybe you could ask to introduce one of them." But instead they wanna retcon.
Games Workshop seem to be forgetting that without the fans they wouldn't be here, without the people they're trying to push away they wouldn't be in this position to have a show, so push the fans away and have a show that is as pathetic as the Rings of power, or stick to lore, have a fantastic show and draw new fans into the franchise.
Also it's annoying they are doing this because we already have female space Marine and Custode equivalents instead of giving us more of those (Sisters of Battle and Sisters of silence) they are effectively sidelining them to push the woke agenda into more popular factions just so people who have never heard of Warhammer can Celebrate muh representation. Sisters of Battle are one of the coolest most interesting factions in the game and they look similar to space Marines except they are hot women rather than beefy men we don't need any of the woke beefy ugly women we need more of the present female only factions.

Well I know he's stated publically, that if he does this, he'll remain loyal to the canon material. Which obviously runs counter, to anything being reported from, or about Amazon, and Warhammer 40k. So that's called, an inferred confirmation. Because he's said nothing, that implies his position has changed, since he made that public statement. I also know he's stated publically, that his favorite faction to play, within the franchise, is the Custodes specifically. I highly doubt, that the idea of weakening his favorite tabletop faction, by as much as half of it's strength, and effectiveness, by including women Custodes within it, appeals to him. That would be like saying, the US Navy Seals, or the British SAS, don't have enough diversity within them. And needs more female, lesbian, and gay representation, within their ranks, and organization. And that it would only make them stronger. Which is a bunch of bollocks. And the Seals themselves have stated, that the opportunity is open to anyone, to try out for the Seals. But that unlike other branches, of the military, they won't lower their standards for induction, just to satisfy a disgruntled minorities agenda. Warhammer lore, already clearly lays out, the process Astartes must endure to become Space Marines. That process includes being genetically altered, by the Emperor's, or the primarchs "male" gene seed. And that no woman, has ever survived the process. So you can bet, the next argument, will be, to change the emporer of mankind himself, to be gender neutral, or some such crap, to validate their argument, that female custodes are a possibility.
So, to a degree, you are also being disingenuous, when you state, Henry has said nothing. Because he has stated his position clearly. And to go by your example, of needing to see Henry, standing before Amazon execs, and making the statements you want to hear, as proof Henry has taken such a position, is ridiculous, just on its face value. By that logic, you must also believe, Jesus was not the son of God, and didn't rise from the grave, because you didn't witness it personally. I'd only say yes so that Mr. Cavill can fulfill a dream he's had since childhood. As long as he's given complete control and freedom to make it how it deserves to be made.
Now onto Games Workshop. The fact that they retconned lore and treated their longtime paying customers like they're in the wrong for wanting the source material to stay true to itself, I hope it doesn't get made.
There are people that have spent tens of thousand on the Warhammer franchise. I've spent just over $200 on games from them. After what they said and did, I wish I could get a full refund and never give them another penny for as long as I live. As of now I'm stuck just refusing to ever support them any more for as long as I live. They had the chance to tell Amazon to get bent. They chose to capitulate and treat the fans like they're in the wrong.
That is unforgivable to me.

Are you ok with the Necrons having personality instead of being Terminator robots? This was a change done 5 years ago with no books leading up to it.
What about the Leagues of Votann? They simply are stated to have 'always existed just hidden' and no books have been written about them.
What about the changes for the Grey Knights? Their lore has changed from what they were first established as.
The Half Eldar Half human Ultramine Librarian? They were retconned out of existence. The Sensai? The literal children of the Emperor? I can only assume you were outraged at this.
Not to mention the Dorn Battle Tank. Always had them? No books or lore explaining they are new tech with the crusade. You must be livid a random tank just showed up with a Primach's name
@RogeringMan Necrons having a personality is a retcon that fit within the setting. Necron Codexes prior to that retcon were all written from the Imperium's perspective.
Leagues of Votan don't contradict lore as the Squats were based on a different part of the Galaxy, what the Imperium knew of and were wiped out by the Tyrannids. Those being said to be an offshoot of the Leagues doesn't break Lore as nothing existed saying that part of the galaxy had been searched and nothing was there.
The Grey Knights have remained largely the same. I'll ask for clarification on what exactly you mean.
The Sensai and Half-Eldar didn't fit a more serious setting, and while I'm certain some people disliked them disappearing, they weren't an integral part of the setting, they didn't survive over 40 years of retcons like the statement "these men never leave Terra and seldom leave the Palace." Those didn't have tweets from the official Warhammer Twitter calling for people to post their 'boys in gold.'
The Rogal Dorn tank is an argument in bad faith, as it's established in the setting that while innovation is extremely rare, it still happens.

Certainly it didnt have the contradiction established in the Custode 8th Codex with the line mentioned though the line you quoted isnt correct either. The line that is often quoted is that the Custodians are made from 'Noble sons' of the Nobility on Terra.
You are correct that 8th Edition Codex was written in the Imperial's perspective (Mostly due to that soul less things that has no mind of its own cannot exactly give a narrative of their own race). Much like how the Tyranids are from other races perspective. The hivemind does not narrate (Even if the Devastation of Baal suggests otherwise).
As for the Grey Knight's here is a Retcon (Or i should say addition depending on perspective?).

Previously on older editions: The Grey Knights were aligned with the Puritan philosophy, and would never touch or associate with the tools or agents of Chaos. This codex completely scraps that idea.

They are gene crafted from the ground up, nothing like a Geneseed needed that requires the male genome. They were going to be included in Master of Mankind (2016). GW however didnt think the people would like that so denied Dan Abnett the permission to introduce them there.
Would it have been better it was done there? Much better, but still i suspect the backlash would have been the same since it wasnt introduced in like 1990 like some people wanted.
People just nod and agree with the Necron Retcon because it doesnt poke at their real world belief and ideology. People dont like Female Custodes because of gender politics in the modern era. Its rather that simple.

The Dorn is absolutely done in bad faith. You are arguing as if it should have had the same backlash or people that are against the Custodes are hypocrites. Except all we know is that 'it is now around.' The lore for it isn't "the Dorn has been around from the inception of the Imperium and has all along been produced in equal numbers to the Leman Russ" which would be the equivalent for the Custodes retcon.
For the Greyknights retcons remain relatively minor, them having a successor then not can be waved away as said Inquisitor being misinformed in the Watsonian sense, and in the Doylist sense with GW not double checking the writer's work. The Greyknights having nothing to do with Chaos, then studying it to better fight it is an expansion of their lore, its a change that can be seen as almost organic, so it's much easier to swallow.
The issue, once again, is not the retcon, its the way the retcon was implemented.
It doesn't matter that the Custodes 'might' have been written to have women thirty seven years ago, they explicitly were written to NOT, and every single thing about them in thirty seven years never once so much as implied that there were women among them. The issue isn't the retcon, the issue is the retcon is absurdly stupidly implemented. I'm willing to bet a ten year old could have come up with better implementation for that retcon.
The issue isn't "there are women in the Custodes" the issue is that we have thirty seven years of mentions stating there aren't women in the Custodes. Otherwise they would not be a Brotherhood, they wouldn't be "these men", and the GW official Twitter account would not have asked for posts about "the boys in gold".
The issue isn't "Custodes are women now" the issue is they outright stated "Custodes have always had women" and while a very small number of people went apeshit about women in their fictional faction. Those who calmly pointed out 'no, no they haven't' and backed it up with evidence were told to shut up and called assholes and bigots. And are denigrated, insulted, and banned for calmly pointing out that, no, you can't go back in time and erase what has been said before.
That said, I absolutely disagree with female Custodes as a concept, I would have much rather have seen greater focus placed on the Sisters of Silence.
As to your closing statement, I fully agree that this utterly moronic failure in PR was caused by identity politics. The higher ups listening to the screeching highly vocal minority that does not have the numbers to support the IP and outright refuses to purchase the products they demand change to how THEY want them to be, has ruined plenty of intellectual properties and doomed others to stillbirth (Star Wars and Concord come to mind just off the top of my head).
Ultimately, I would rather not see a 40k cinematic universe if having it would result in the 40k version of Rings of Power.
Now that I look at him, Henry Cavill really resembles Demetrian Titus, if they do continue onwards with W40k, he can really play that role.

I just got into Warhammer 40k a few months ago, after watching "Astartes" and thinking it was the coolest thing I've seen in literally YEARS.
If they fill the hobby/lore with woke activism, not only will I not watch, I will actively wish for its failure and completely disregard it from canon in my head anyway.
If they make faithful adaptations, they've got a new customer for life.

Never say never. Imagine a 60 vs. 60 WH40k game in the vein of Chivalry or Mordeau? Instead of swords and bows, give them bolters and power swords. Center it around The Horus Heresy, or even 9th Ed. with all the Xenos. 120 players getting matched, put on one team or another. Full-on historical battlefields like Krieg or cramped chaos within a Space Hulk? In the late game, the best players in a round get to take control of a Primarch or a Captian, Chaplain, Terminator, etc., for an explosive clash that will determine the round. Player progression with each faction unlocking rare weapons, trinkets, prayers, and skins. Tight FPS controls and refined hand-to-hand combat with parries, ripostes, and footwork?
Just saying. Never say never. Imagine 60 players taking control of the Blood Angels and 60 players taking on the role of the Tyranids. And can all the Tyranids climb vertical walls?

I've been seeing Cavill taking heat recently Alot from fans.
Between the announcement of the movies, to the custodies, to some of the other gamesworkshop actions Alot of people are losing faith in Cavill, even tho I don't think he has much to do with any of that. Ive even seen people go in on him for being a space marine main, saying that's mostly a tourist faction.
But honestly I think the dude is trying, And the biggest point in his favor is the creative disagreements in the contract being a contention point for him.
Regardless if he's the perfect "um actually" guy when it comes to lore, it's clear dude is an actual fan. You don't need to be lutin (even tho I love our lore master) to be a fan. I've never played any Warhammer game and I'm also not a big Witcher/Fantasy guy. But knowing there is a very successful guy out there beeing open and passionate about his hobbies, gives me hope for the future of big budget productions and adaptations of beloved franchises. i don`t understand why they have to put female space marine, when they got sisters of battle that are insanly strong in the lore, so they will have stronge female characters in the series anyways, so why force space marine into females

the custodes were planned to persist in the Imperium, the astartes not. they were to be used in the great crusade and then phased out (with a peaceful retirment i need to had, some had sizable house on terra, with vinyard!)

If the astartes weren't part of the imperium, but a faction on their own, and the imperium met them, how would they have been treated by the imperium? as human or xeno?

Hey guys just for nyrion and the people who don't know these Warhammer is primarily a table top game like DND but an a much larger scale and with armies so the video games are only a small part of it and the lore that Henry cav wants to stay true to is mainly the books and lore from some of the video games but it's mainly the tabletop stuff also great stuff nyrion cos we got a mostly unbiased source right here and critical drinker.

Personally I know next to nothing about Warhammer 40k but I can see this as an absolute way to troll Amazon. They want women in it fine but put them in doing minimal tasks like secretary work, fetching coffee, guarding a door, stocking the armory. Sure it would come up as sexist but Amazon never did say how Henry had to use them in the movies or shows being produced.
There's already a bunch of women in more upfront combat roles in 40K. Look at the Adeptus Sororitas, an all female group who fight alongside the Space Marines. Or the Sisters of Silence, entirely female members of the Custodes. Or the Eschers of Necromunda.

Actually, Amazon specifically demanded a woman in a leadership role, and they demanded that woman be a Space Marine. GW fought tooth and nail against this and told Amazon that that couldn't happen. Amazon rejected the first two alternatives; Sisters of Silence, who couldn't talk, and the Sisters of Battle, who were too religious. Additionally, this female leader had to be superhuman to be able to boss men around. She had to have the physical power and the genius level mental ability to back it up. That's when GW pulled female Custodes out of their collective asses, wrote it into the new Codex, then lied to the customers and told us "There have always been female Custodes." and started laying waste to their social media platforms with the ban hammer when the fans called them sellouts and liars. Now GW has doubled down on their lore changing woke bullshit and put out a new animation called ‘The Tithes’, featuring a female Custodes, and the ban hammers are out again.

As much of a good guy Henry Cavill is, The Witcher is proof that that's not enough. He has no power or pull in Hollywood. The Warhammer adaptation, if it even happens, will be just as bad as Rings of Power, Foundation, The Witcher, and Wheel of Time. Henry is just an actor to them, and an actor with a habit of picking roles that flop (Justice League, Argylle).

I wished he be in more Witcher seasons. One of my favorite games of all time and the show was amazing imo. To hear he is going to be involved in Warhammer stuff is fn amazing to hear. I love the Warhammer universe and lore just as much as the Witcher. They are both on top of my favorite stories list.

-Cavill does not want to yield, and his decisions are most likely protected by the contract (he is not an idiot to not expect faul play by the Amazon)
- Amazon decided it is easier to change the lore instead, so now they are lore accurate and Cavill is in the wrong.
- They used that change in argument with Cavill.
- Cavill threated that he is leaving.
It's actually hurting my brain what Amazon is doing. They spend a boatload of money buying the rights to a franchise, have an executive producer who could have been carved from marble and programmed to be the perfect man for the job, and a fanbase invested in the franchise for decades. They could literally print money if they just let Henry make the show he wants, sticking to the lore because he speaks for the audience, he IS the audience, and he knows what they want and will pay for. They said they want to make their own MCU, and they are making the decisions that drove the biggest entertainment franchise in history into ruin and bankruptcy. I swear the only thing that makes sense is these people want to destroy their own companies and don't mind destroying our franchises in the process
