    Be very careful with the mirror but maybe also hit the focusing screen with some compressed air and get around the film compartment. Don't be to close with the compressed air you don't need to blast it. Just enough for get the dust moving out. Could also use a rocket blower.
    Another stellar video!

    We shoot with Minolta's all the time. This was a great watch. We mostly use the X-700 and the X-570. These tips are really going to help us going forward. I've never replaced a light seal before but this video makes me feel a little more confident that I can handle it. Thanks for sharing.

    • @KingJvpes
      @KingJvpes  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      YEA! MINOLTA GANG! And nice, I've never tried the x-570 is it any good? How does it compare to the x-700? And the light seals are fairly easy, if you have any questions about it I'll gladly help out! Glad you guys enjoyed!

    • @ActiveCapture
      @ActiveCapture 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The X-570 has a lot of advantages over the X-700, the biggest being it shows recommended shutter AND current shutter in the viewfinder. It saves so much trouble when out in the field. You lose the exposure compensation but it's a fair trade in my eyes. It also allows flash sync down to 1/60th sec. Great camera.

    • @vangestelwijnen
      @vangestelwijnen 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The X-500/570 also comes with one single capacitor instead of two (for the MPS on X-700) and in certain series on the X-700, there are some ehm... issues with capacitor number two (series 24xxxx-27xxxx if I am right).

    Hi! I love this video, but I have a question. I recently got a Yashica FX-3 and notice dust in the mirror inside the camera. For what I have reading about, the mirror can't be cleaned because it's very fragile and I should let it like that. Mi question is if I should try to clean the mirror of my Yashica?

    • @bananacaramel
      @bananacaramel 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Enrique Arauz if it's just dust, use a rubber dust blower to blow out the dust. i dont know how to describe the thing but googling "rubber dust blower for camera" should help. it's pretty cheap too

    • @peter-robinson
      @peter-robinson 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      your question was from ages ago but for anybody reading... best use a brush to lift the dust off the mirror. You blow air on the brush bristles using a rocket blower and that generates static in the bristles. Brush gently across the mirror and the dust is attracted to the bristles, lifting it off the mirror. Never blow the air onto the mirror or the dust might get lodged in the mechanism somewhere else

    Good video and tips, but one thing, some cameras have very fragile mirror mountings. It's much better to use lens cleaner on a good-quality Q-Tip rather than using your fingers on a micro-fiber cloth. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us.

    • @MrFreakwent
      @MrFreakwent 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah , don't use microfibre . Use a liquid and swabs designed for mirrors so the silver coating isn't scratched or smeared.

    • @animepabu5526
      @animepabu5526 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MrFreakwent so q-tips are no go then? Only specific designed swabs for mirrors? Just wanting to make sure. Don’t wanna break anything. These cameras now are especially expensive and are no longer…$35 bucks for three like he said in the video. Now there around $200

  • @fahmiyustiza
    @fahmiyustiza 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I recently buy a pentax spotmatic and use it for the first time with a blacknwhite film and when I developed the film, there's stripes on the photos/negative. some of the photos that are bright or a little overexposed, there are no stripes on them. but on the well and a little underexposed, the stripes are very noticeable. do you know what's wrong? is it from the film that has expired or there's something wrong with the camera?

    • @Mark-lw6fb
      @Mark-lw6fb 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Fahmi Yustiza Its probably caused by the lightseal. If its broken it lets light into the camera and exposes the film. Therefore the stripes on your pictures. When the film is overexposed the stripes won't be noticeable because the amount of light comming in from the broken seal is very little so it won't show up on overexposed immages as much as on darker immages. So fix the lightseals as shown in the video and try again. Hope it helps

    Good video! A little unknown fact: the battery covers on all Japanese cameras are especially designed to be opened using a 10 yen coin. Yes, pennies, dimes, nickels and quarters may work, but the 10 yen is very specific so it won't damage the cover.

      The mirror has nothing to do with the image on the film, it's only there so you can see what you are taking photos of. So no, nothing will be visible on the photos but you should really clean that mirror because it limits your ability to get the focus correct

    The shutter speeds on those cameras have most likely slowed down over time and should be tested to see what they actually are so you don't waste time and film on over exposures.. There are DIY shutter tester projects out there, I made one that's used with Audacity (yes, the free audio software).

      I bought my XG-M in 1985 and still have it. It’s an excellent camera and uses all the MD lenses. Set the dial to A on the camera, choose an aperture and the camera will choose a shutter speed. It takes 2 LR44 batteries which are required to operate the shutter. It’s a great camera.

    • @KingJvpes

      Nice manuel! And hmm are you talking about the AE-1 Program? The original AE-1 had a big brother come out a couple years later called the AE-1 Program which was an upgraded AE-1 featuring program mode, brighter viewfinder and more. It was also the best selling cannon SLR which is why it was probably more popular than the original AE-1.

    One problem you failed to cover is that the batteries of today are different from the originals. The voltages are different and will affect the light meters in these older cameras. I replaced the batteries on my vintage Olympus OM-1's and now both light meters have failed. Apparently this is a common problem. Any suggestions?

      Find a good repair shop. Most of the time the resistors can be changed to properly work with the new voltage .

    Wow only $35 dollars for all of that? I've been trying to find an x-700 for cheap but I am only finding stuff for like $45-60. Tips?

      On ebay I just scored a Pentax P30t, Zenit 11, Practika BMS, Practika Bc1 and a Miranda MS1N for £20. I'm well chuffed. Even if 4 don't work I've done OK! Just gotta invest in 3 different lense mounts now. 😢

    Bit over simplified....also you can get in trouble replacing light seals partic if not needed....
    Use a proper mirror swab when cleaning that area...

    Nice Video but pretty basic.
    If i really need to restore an old camera, a little bit of cleaning and a new battery won`t sufficient.

    So if you're so good at camera repair, why don't you replace your batteries to your smoke detectors?

    Очень плохая видео запись , постоянная дергание картинки, почитайте литературу, сколько секунд должна стоять картинка, не рыскайте видео камерой, дайте посмотреть спокойно, не учитесь у телевизионщиков.
