As a Puerto Rican, I'm happy to inform you that Mufongo is indeed made with plantains! Glad you enjoyed one of our many many dishes and went out of your way to support an actual local, Puerto Rican owned restaurant.
My sister's and I tried Mufungo last year when we went to Puerto Rico. I'm not a big plantain eater, but it was not bad. 😊

Mofongo is mashed plantan and I make it with some sazón,onions,red and green bell peppers and a little chicken broth.
Next time Ed, start to race her up the stairs, go up one flight, let her get ahead, then take the elevator 😂
I sincerely thought that was what was going to happen! Emily was going to reach the floor huffing and puffing, only to find Ed chilling by the elevator. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

"Dragonsong" was the first Anne McCaffrey book I ever read, and I loved it. The "Harper Hall" Trilogy is one that I can read over and over again.
Masterharper of Pern is one of my all time favorites!

All Anne McCaffrey books are great! but I do love Pern. I mean DRAGONS!!!!
Dragonsong and Dragonsinger were my first PERN books! I love many of the others but these two are my favorites.

I'm glad you guys enjoyed your cruise. I personally will never go into a cruise because when I visit a country I like to explore it for at least 3 weeks. Also, what I'm about to say may be controversial but I have visited many countries in the South American continent like Argentina, Costa Rica, Puerto Rico, Bolivia, and Peru.. my opinion is that the best food is in Peru.

I always take the stairs just to get to my class on the 9th floor. Ed is me at the 6th floor lmao
Mofongo recipe from my Puerto Rican mom: fry plantains in garlic and butter until the outside is barely crispy then use a mortar and pestal to mash the plantains with more garlic and bacon. They will be crispy and soft so they will take the shape of the bowl. Then you flip it over to get the dome shape. We eat it with Mayo-ketchup. Mix ketchup, mayo, and garlic to make a sauce to pour on it. We usually eat it with pork
you an use pork rinds instead of bacon
you came to Puerto Rico!!!! so glad you enjoyed your vacays. Fried plantains are called Tostones, and you can eat them plain, or add some garlic sauce or ketchup or mayoketchup (best option). Mofongo is also made with plantains, you cut it in ~1 inch pieces, then you fry them until golden-brown, and then you mash them and add sides like chicken or shrimps in butter and garlic sauce.

Ooooo Dragonsong! You'll love it. My dad was a high school librarian and he would often recommend that for reluctant readers because it's a good story that just pulls you in. And if you want to go all the way, well, Anne McCaffrey was a very prolific author before she passed away.

They definitely were! I used to volunteer at a petting zoo and we had a few parrots, one of them (Max) could say a few words like Hi and Bye and he'd wave whenever he said them 😂

The Dragon Riders of Pern,which is the series of the book you're reading,is best in order so you understand all the nuances. One of my fav series!!!!!
Anne McCaffrey! Awesome author...You MUST read her Dragohriders of Pern series, soooooo good! The original trilogy: Dragonsong (1976), Dragonsinger (1977), Dragondrums (1979). There are several others, prequels, sequels etc. Very much worth the read.

OMG, *Dragonsong*! That book was my *childhood*. It's probably the thing that sparked my obsession with dragons back in the day; it wouldn't be hard to draw a direct line from me getting that book to me owning a crested gecko today. That trilogy and the main Dragonriders of Pern trilogy were the books I brought with me to college to keep from getting lonely. Such fond memories - I hope you like it Emily!

Anne McAffrey's Pern books were a big part of my reading in middle and high school. I feel you may enjoy them. Dragonsong is one of my favorites of the series.
Though I've never really been keen on the idea of cruises (would never go on them myself) I'm glad you both had a lovely time :).

Anne McCaffrey is one of my favorite authors. Her Dragon Riders trilogy is credited with popularizing dragons in fantasy, but she personally considered her books sci-fi. She is best known for her Pern books, so you need to look up the ones besides Dragonsong.
While I'm not one for cruises, but I really hope that Emily and Ed had a great time and a well deserved rest. Thank you for saying this with all of us. ❤

As someone else said, I do not support cruise holidays (for the Huge CO2 impact and stuff) but I totally understand that you want a holiday where you do not have to plan, so I get the choice and hope you greatly enjoyed it! Omg I loved the Anne McCaffrey dragon books!
From the Dominican/Puerto Rican point of view: you peel, cut up and then fry green plantains, mash it together with garlic, peppers, meat, etc. and form a ball or half a sphere and serve with a broth. Every country puts its own influence on it, and every restaurant changes it or serves it differently. I tend to like the ones with lots of garlic, lots of chicharron (fried pork belly) and lots of broth (served separately so I can adjust how moist I want it to be).

I once went on a family vacation on a cruise to areas including Puerto Rico, but one day we went to a little open garden area on the boat and we actually saw a lot of anoles around the garden!

I have read "Dragon Song" and loved it. Loved it so much that it is part of my collection and I have now read it many many many times! Wonderful series! 10/10 will read again! and again and again and again... I have lots of books I read over and over again, all paperbacks, and I have read all of them at least 3 times, mostly more. Yes, I could go buy more, and I do have several I want, but most are part of a series I already have part of and haven't completed.
