Starting the Flower Season by Presprouting Ranunculus

  • If you're looking for a beautiful, showy flower that lasts well in a vase and blooms in early summer for weeks...you need ranunculus. Good news is that getting them started is pretty easy!
    1. Soak the corms for 3+ hours (I'd recommend 3-4 hours)
    2. Add 1-2" of soil to a container
    3. Place the soaked corms spikey ends down on top of the soil. If you are going to plant them out or pot them up, you can pack those corms in there really close together
    4. Cover corms with another inch of soil
    5. Label and put them in a dark location (or cover them)
    6. They like a cool place to germinate (50 degrees Fahrenheit)
    7. Check on them daily, keeping soil lightly moistened. Remove cover and put under grow lights or a bright window when you see green shoots coming up or white roots start to emerge.
    8. Plant them outside when you are not in danger of freezing temps.
    9. Enjoy the beauties!
