You are such a WEALTH of knowledge!! I am now watching you just as much as I watch Laura from Garden Answer! I hope more people find your channel because you should have sooooo many more subscribers with all of your amazing information.
I just discovered you today and subscribed your channel! I am a newbie growing Dahlias. I was voted 4 tubers. I didn’t store them very well. There were two that looked viable. I planted then in individual it’s. I didn’t it them on side ways. I’ll go change them, if it’s not too late. I planted 5 days ago. Please wish me the best!! Thank you for your very informative video. 😀❤️🙏
This is my first year growing flowers in my garden. Videos like these have been essential. I have watched this video 4-5 times.😂 I had a successful Dahlia year. I'd love to have more videos like this one. An in-depth care and planting video of one flower type at a time is indispensable to a new gardener, like me.
After wading through dozens of dozens of “informative” you tube videos, I felt a huge sigh of relief after stumbling across this! A perfect blend of what, why and how!
“You know how I feel about peat…” and “that’s a lot of plastic for me” have me feeling like we really are friends having a great conversation! 😂 this video was incredible. Thank you!
Wow this was the best Dahlia video I have seen yet! The flow was perfect some people are too slow and add so much fluff to their presentation it gets annoying. I just paused took notes and restarted when i needed. Fantastic !!!! Thank you!
I just discovered your channel this very night and became an instant fan. Your chalkboard illustrations are EXACTLY the type of instruction that works for me. I’ve always been a very visual person. Give me a pencil and a piece of paper any day. I learn better if I can see the process and the same holds true when trying to explain something to someone. You’ve gained another follower. Thank you! 🌺💐
I had a A-ha moment when you said to not plant the dahlia tubers going straight down! I had a bunch of mine rot and die last year because they stayed too wet and I didn't know what I was doing wrong... Thank you for answering that question for me! I will definitely plant them on their sides from now on! 👍😁
I was digging up what I thought were potatoes because I grew dhalias from seeds and was blown away at how huge the tubers were. Your video helped me so much! I was able to throw away some rotten ones, and I saw a giant crown with new eyes on it. Thank you!
I am so glad you put the picture of crown gall up, I thought one of my dahlias was just going crazy.😢 just went and pulled it, and keeping my fingers crossed it doesn’t spread.
I love that you're in Colorado, so many other videos just don't apply to our extreme temperature swings and dry climate here. My dahlias seem to bloom so late that I hesitated to even try them again, but they're so pretty! Thanks for sharing your experience with us!
Got it, “Don’t look at them wrong!” 😂😂 Great coverage as I’ve never grown before and trying from seed. Can’t wait to see what pops up! So many people show dahlia selfies and speak highly of them. I just have to figure out where to store them. I have no basement or garage and really wanted to build a root cellar last year.
Just a note from a laidback gardener, I store my dahlias in an unheated basement. I live in Maryland and place them (clean of course) in a resealable plastic bag (reusable too). I make sure they’re full of air and seal them up. Then place in a seedling tray, side by side like a display. They sit in the basement in the dark for the entire winter. I do check every 2-3 months just to make sure they are good. I only lost one last/this year storing them this way. So it’s pretty easy for smallish amounts.
On holiday and discovering your channel has been a gardening knowledge bonus! Looking forward to going back and watching past episodes and enjoying the new ones! You’ve got me hooked.
Wow, this was really helpful. Most TH-camrs just share their personal experience with their own zone and what works for them. But now, after watching this, I feel like aI can actually make an informed decision.
New follower here! I’m so excited - I love how in depth you go and think you will really help out my garden this year. I started gardening about 5-7 years ago, but really got into it seriously within the past 2 years. I’m looking to correct some mistakes and start getting some awesome results! Thanks for sharing your valuable information for those of us to learn from and utilize to better our gardens. It is more appreciated than you know! 💕☀️🌸
THANK YOU! I fell on love with Dahlias last year, but I was completely unaware of the diseases AND the neonicotinoids! I grow my garden as much for the pollinators as for my family, if not even more-so. So thank you ♡
Thank you forsharing your family's feast with us.Easy to see you love each other. Back in the day when our family would get together my grandfather called it a 'jollification'. Wishing you and your family an awesome spring ahead.
Very informative and a lot to learn in just one single video! Thank you so very much! I just came across your channel while searching for something else. But now I gained a lot of information about Dahlias and feel encouraged to grow it in my garden.
*bought tubers at home depot 😅 *did not pinch them 😒 *planted them in a shady area 😕 *did not stake them 😩 *they have powdery mildew 😳 learning A LOT in this video, might just have to start over... THANK YOU!
I’m trying to grow some dahlias from seed I collected. I have six that have sprouted. Super excited to see what I am growing. Definitely naming each of them. 😍
Hi I'm Bonny a new subscriber in zone 5b Canada. Last year I grew the ball dahlias and this year I'm growing the dinner plate. This was very informative. Thank you.
Thank you for all the great information. I'm going to have to save this video! I'm going to need more information on the "pinching" I wasn't aware pinching was a thing with dalias. Awesome video!
thank you Bree for all of your knowledge. I cannot get enough of your videos. They have changed my gardening game and I'm forever grateful. I'm doing a cut flower garden this year because of you and this is sooooo helpful in managing the dahlias I am starting!!! soooo much love I wish we were closer and I could give you a hug. Also, my nails/fingers are ALWAYS dirty like yours #gardensisters
I pot my dahlias and ranunculas that way I don't have to dig and store in specific place. I just put mine in my garage. So far no problems.Happy gardening!
Thank you for the info about neonicotinoids. I'd no idea about how devastating that range of pesticides is to bees. And thanks for all the Dahlia instructions. Really enjoyed your video.
I live in zone 9b and I'm currently trying dahlias for the first time. I'm just wanting them as cut flowers for me and garden interest. I actually decided to plant them in three gallon pots just so I can move them around a bit and see where they will be happiest in my garden. And also be able to bring them in if we have hurricanes over the summers. I'm excited to try this flower I've been intimidated by in the past. Just now learning it's probably a good idea to container garden them to know if they have any diseases and incase they had pesticides being used on them I'm not getting it into my soil!!! Thank you for sharing the things nobody else was saying!!!!
Hello from England. I’m fairly new to growing Dahlias, this will be my 3rd year. Thank you for your knowledge. I did really well last year and I keep adding more to my collection 😁
You are truly the best, you make me feel capable. first time - i bought dahlia tubers and really want them to thrive. im learning a lot from you, thank you!
Thank you so much I have learned a lot from you, thank you! Nothing is as simple as it seems, however it will not deter me, as the beauty of Dahlia is in my opinion is unsurpassed.
SO SO helpful! I moved to Colorado in March and started growing Dahlias in my window boxes. I wish I would have came across this video sooner because the instructions that came with them was so poor I ended up with half rotten tubers. :( Two grew into leafy bushes and never bloomed. It's now late September and I planted in early June. I thought, maybe the soil had too much nitrogen so I added a low N and higher Phosphorous fertilizer and nothing changed. I don't know what went wrong. I think I'll try your pine shavings and rubber maid storage and curing for winter tips. Thanks so much!!
New by here I just love gardening and especially dahlias love your channel also watch Laura garden answers and Linda vater love to you all from England xx💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕
Wow! So much good information on dahlias. I’ve been growing them for years - but storing them haphazardly. From year to year I would have greater or lesser success without always knowing why. I can now systematize my dahlia management and hope to have greater success! Thank you!
I recently bought one of those big bags of “soil” (my husband calls them bags of soil, lol!), from the big box stores, and out of ten dahlia tubers, only 2 were viable!! Most of the tubers had broken off by the time I got to them, and they all just looked weak in general. It’s my first time doing Dahlia’s so I guess there are lessons to be learned as always with gardening
Regarding inter planting, how about garlic or scallions? Many pests seem to not like it. Thanks for this class! Maybe next year I will experiment with these beautiful flowers.
Thank you, this was quite informative for me! I rescued a nearly dead dahlia, discounted at a big chain garden centre. It had been overwatered and for months I've been able to keep it alive... JUST! I didn't actually know they prefer to be dry!! I'm in a subtropical climate (in Australia), so I'll now have to research how to care for them in this climate. 😅😊
Thanks for bringing up ecological issues after using chemicals. Many people think if you don't grow food it's ok to use neonicotinoids or phosphorus ferts. Thanks for explaining it in simple language and in a friendly way.
So new to flower gardening and this video and so many of your others posts are super helpful. Just wish I watched this before I spent $50 on big box store packaged dahlias and only 1 little tuber sprouted 😅 the rest were dried out and broken.
Thank you for sharing all of this knowledge and information! I love your approach to gardening and care. ALL of these tips are so helpful. I’m new to growing Dahlias and so excited to dive deeper into this wonderful beautiful world! 😁
Yep definitely liked and subscribed! So much important information you just shared. THANK YOU! SOOOOO Glad I found you! In in PA and I've kept my tubers in the ground and they come up every year. We get snow here too; so I cover them with leaf mulch. Works wonder! Thanks again!
Great video! If anyone like me was bugged by the lack of chapters check the description, the timestamps are there. Not sure why they don't show in the video though!

Thank you for this very informative guide! I absolutely adore Dahlias and am currently growing them. I've seen my first sprout on a few of them and can't wait for them to flower. Im in the UK, so it's still a little chilly, and they're living in the greenhouse for now. Will definitely have a look at your other videos ❤
I just planted some from a big box store and I saw the leafy Gaul, but just thought they had sprouted all ready. Thanks for the warning! I have grown dahlias for years and this is the first time I've ever seen it.

Thank you for mentioning the importance of avoiding pesticides that harm bees!

This is real botanical vocabulary! Charming flowers, charming teacher!

Just found your channel and WOW…I have NEVER heard a better more informative speaker. THANK YOU! I almost bought Dahlias at Walmart…NOT anymore. ❤
Thank you so much!! That’s very kind ❤️
I had a A-ha moment when you said to not plant the dahlia tubers going straight down! I had a bunch of mine rot and die last year because they stayed too wet and I didn't know what I was doing wrong... Thank you for answering that question for me! I will definitely plant them on their sides from now on! 👍😁
An easy mistake to make!! It would make sense to plant them that way!
"don't bury me deep" should be on the tuber labels! :)
Yes think of them as a sweet potato start❤
I was digging up what I thought were potatoes because I grew dhalias from seeds and was blown away at how huge the tubers were. Your video helped me so much! I was able to throw away some rotten ones, and I saw a giant crown with new eyes on it. Thank you!
Oh my gosh!! I have learnt so much more about Dahlias, you certainly are a WEALTH of knowledge. Looking forward to more amazing tips from you.
Thank you very much! 🥰🥰
You are absolutely a brilliant gardene. Watching you is better than opening a specialized encyclopedia.
You are awesome!
I am so glad you put the picture of crown gall up, I thought one of my dahlias was just going crazy.😢 just went and pulled it, and keeping my fingers crossed it doesn’t spread.
I love that you leave options. I’m not a newbie to growing, but I’m always looking to learn something new or better. Thank you!
I love that you're in Colorado, so many other videos just don't apply to our extreme temperature swings and dry climate here. My dahlias seem to bloom so late that I hesitated to even try them again, but they're so pretty! Thanks for sharing your experience with us!

Love your videos. And I especially love your care for the environment. Much respect to you for that!
Thank you SO much. I feel like I just went to dahlia college ❤

Root cellar in shavings works amazing. Our cellar has a fan that comes on for a few hours a day.
Best information I’ve seen or read on dahlias so far! Thank you!

This was very informative wonderful video. Well done!
Great video… very instructive. Thank you
Just discovered your channel and am thrilled, especially because I’m in Denver!!! (I grew up in southern Colorado where gardening presents Hugh challenges). But oooooh, I just bought a bag of dahlias from Costco (and several other bags as well) and since I’ve begun including many edibles, the pesticide factor is a concern. Guess I’ll rearrange plans and play it out. Thanks for your depth of information presented in such a friendly way. Do you sell tubers, have tours, do classes?
Thank you for this very informative guide! I absolutely adore Dahlias and am currently growing them. I've seen my first sprout on a few of them and can't wait for them to flower. Im in the UK, so it's still a little chilly, and they're living in the greenhouse for now. Will definitely have a look at your other videos ❤
Another Masterclass. Thank you! 🌼
Thanks again for the very good information
Super helpful, also love your outfit and background :)
I just planted some from a big box store and I saw the leafy Gaul, but just thought they had sprouted all ready. Thanks for the warning! I have grown dahlias for years and this is the first time I've ever seen it.
