Very impressive you got stung by a wasp and barely skipped a beat. I would have cried like a baby and stopped filming for sure. Your a trooper Laura! Love your videos
Hi Laura- Beekeeper here- that girl is most certainly a young yellow jacket queen. (wasp) I'm sure your greenhouse is a cozy place for her to overwinter. Only the young queens survive after the nest dies in the fall. They slumber in a sheltered place and await spring- when they can rebuild a small paper nest (alone) lay eggs and then begin to build their empire. Her only job is to survive right now- looks like she woke at the wrong time. I found a black and white queen in my crawl space last week I accidentally awakened. Sad advice- but anytime you see one of these gals, take them out with your shoe. It will save a whole lot of stings in the late summer. Yes, they are pollinators and harmless for most of the season, until late summer/early fall when they become a real problem- for your family and also honeybees. Not a bee- a wasp. Much love and thanks for the vid!
What a lovely and informative thing to write about the sting. I also felt she was very tough to just keep on the show going. Like Roosevelt when he was shot mid speech. I love how you speak about the young queens so endearing. Most people would see them as immediate enemy.

I know you've talked a lot about growing ranunculus before, but I love the complete overview of your experience over the last several years. This is so helpful and I would love to see more deep dives in specific plants!
Good morning. Oh, you scared me when you jumped, i didn't know what had happened! That looked like some kind of wasp to me! Amazed that you could retain your composure. The hazards of gardening are real. Hugs from N.C..❤️
I can’t believe you’re talking about this particular flower! Yesterday I bought some pink ranunculus at the nursery in the town I’m moving into soon here in central Calif/zone 9a. I just wanted to see what’s in bloom in January. And then I couldn’t help myself and bought three plants that matched together nicely like Laura would do and bought a pot to put them in plus soil. But I still live in my apartment and I really don’t have any place to put it but I couldn’t help myself.
Can’t wait to see them all in bloom. They are so pretty in bouquets. Love seeing Russell, he is such a ham. He really loves photo bombing you. He has to be in the spot light. Love it love it. Thanks so much for sharing your process on how to grow those beautiful flowers
I bought corms in Jan 22. Life happened & I never got them planted. While waiting for this year's order I decided to take a look at them. Like you said, they always look dead anyway. I decided to pre-sprout them & see what happens. No way to know for sure yet, but I have high hopes. They plumped up well. Thanks to your videos I'm a lot better at "let's see".
You know what’s better than watching Laura ramp up for the next growing season? Watching her with TH-cam premium. My husband surprised me and the kids with it last night! No ads! It is glorious! Woohoo!
This will be my fourth year of growing ranunculus and anemones in zone 5a, southern Wisconsin. I begin the process of soaking in late February. After soaking, I put them in moistened soil in 50 or 72 cell packs. I put them in the basement for about 2 weeks until I see sprouts. I take the flats outside on the front porch, covering them as needed. If I can get into the ground mid March ( depends if the ground is frozen or not), I use the same tunnels as you used last year and cover. I love sharing the blooms and got a very nice thank you from our vet's office last year. They are definitely worth the work!
So beautiful! Makes me wanna go outside and start planting. I just love Ranunculus and some other flowering plants! 🌸 As always Russell is the superstar of the show! 😻😻 I Hope you're okay from being stung by the wasp.
This & previous Ranunculus videos have been so very helpful. Last year I had never heard of pre-sprouting Ranunculus. This year I’m planting 500 en masse thanks to you.
Thanks for the inspiration, Laura. I'm a longtime gardener, but a first time ranunculus grower. My order has shipped and could arrive today. It's exciting to try something new, and I can't wait!
And so it begins. Now that the holidays are behind us, we will be doing the impatient count down to spring. These will be an amazing display. So random for a wasp to do a stealth attack!😮. Looked like Russel was in the background snacking on the spicy little jerk. 💚💚💚
Gardening is new to me so I soak up everything you do! Thanks for sharing so much of your everyday life, family, friends and shopping trips-all interesting. I couldn’t”t really see clearly what you were stung by, but it looked like a wasp! It must like the warmth of the greenhouse.
These are such exciting times. Can't bee'lieve that little bugger got you there, as always, love your composure. Thanks for sharing all your wonderful projects. Looking forward to seeing these bloom in the containers! That's going to be magical ✨️

Laura, I really appreciate you going through the entire process of how and When you grow the flowers. Thanks, KEN for adding in the footage from the last few years! Its nearly a 'grow guide'. 😆
Thank you Laura ❤ 2yrs ago was my first attempt to grow from corms and I left my water from my tap running slightly for 3-4 hrs to give them oxogen . And last year a fish tank pump to oxygenate the water . This year I will follow your advice . You have never disappointed us All with your expert tutelage. You’re an international treasure.💐👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👍🏼
Ordered some Ranunculus corms the other day, this come at perfect time to remind me what to do with them. Taking down my Christmas decorations and thinking how about in just 10 months we will start to take them out for beginning of Advent 😅
You were moving right along until the sting took you off course, for just a second, then remembered where you were. You are amazing. I would have come back the next day. LOL. This is how gardening goes. I have a back patio and my plants are containers. I bought Ranunculus last year and have the corms. So glad you did this video. I will be filling up my containers this year. Of to get sprouting containers for my garage. Thanks
I am so sorry you were stung by the wasp. We have them making nests under out door tables, so I thought I would pass that on in case there is a nest under one of your potting tables. We just love your channel so much. Thank you so much.
I just came across this video as I recently got some ranunculus to add to my little library garden, and you come across as so genuine and real! Just subscribed and I can't wait to go through your content to feed my newfound love of flower gardening!
I really like how Ken adds in past videos showing us what your referring to. I'm sorry that you got stung by that wasp. A wasp in January! That's bad luck for sure. Sorry that you got stung. Thank you Laura for sharing with us all of your knowledge!
Thank you for this step-by-step process, I'm going to rewatch this when I get my corms. I think these are one of the prettiest flowers. You make it look so easy. I appreciate you.
Ranunculus are one of my favorites! Would love to see all of your raised beds full of them!! I actually remembered to put up some (small caterpillar) hoops last fall so I can get them out, protected earlier this spring. It will be an experiment since i have never been organized enough to remember to get the hoops in before the ground freezes! I usually plant my dahlias out as the ranunculus are slowing down, in the same bed. The tuber sprouts are short at first and as the weather warms the dahlias take off and the ranuncs go to sleep. My corms have had all summer to rest and energize and I pull them out once i have cut back my dahlias. Works as a space saver for me. So glad to see all the glorious color from previous years, make me want to pre sprout...must. be. patient!! 😛
Hey Laura, check underneath all your tables inside your greenhouse. It’s been my experience that those darn bees will make a nest in those corners! Hope that helps. ❤
Ranunculus is my favorite flower second only peony. The marshmallow is beautiful! I'm so sorry you were stung. You certainly handled it with amazing grace. Russell is such a lovable boy! It was so sweet watching him try to place himself under your hand.💛💙
OMGosh , Laura- feeling your bee sting pain!!! Bless your heart! I don't know what day you took that video but two days ago I put my foot in a boot that had been sitting outside...temp was in the low 50's here in Seattle.... all of a sudden I had excruciating pain on the top of my foot! I thought it was a thorn or some such thing, so I took the boot off and out flew a yellow jacket or wasp! OM LORD, the darn thing was mad! I loved the fact that your vid kept rolling!! Grace under pressure =Laura!
@@susanhorn3910 I started presprouting mine January 25th, potted them up a couple days later, let them grow under grow lights until I planted them into a patio raised garden bed on March 14th (it was a random warm week in the 40s and 50s which ended up being perfect timing). I kept the bed covered in plastic since we still had regular snow and freezing weather except on the occasional warm or sunny day. A few days it was extremely cold (in the teens) so I covered the plants in a bedsheet as a frost cloth, then covered the whole bed in plastic... anemones bloom first so I had my first anemones at the very beginning of May and my first ranunculus bloom May 10th. This year I am going to delay the presprout until February, because even though I had growlights on the plants, they still got quite leggy and they definitely did not enjoy being inside those first few months... they really put on leafy growth when you get them outside in the cool weather, so I'm going to have them inside less and see how they go. Both the ranunculus and anemones were done by end of May because our temps jumped from 50s-60s to 80s almost immediately and stayed there for the several following months..i definitely would have had more blooms if we had a proper spring! Im in central Illinois if that's helpful
@@michelleh4588 thank you so much! I’m in northwest Illinois. This information is very helpful! With this strange winter we’re having, it will be interesting, I think, but I think I’ll try it. Have a great day!
@@susanhorn3910 you're welcome! Yeah it's currently raining and in the 40s here, which makes me feel like I can act like I'm in a warmer zone and get going on planting now..i just planted sweet peas in nursery containers and set them outside in a makeshift low tunnel I have... just an experiment to see how they go since it's so warm! I was thinking of doing the same with ranunculus to see if i can get earlier blooms with less effort. Ranunculus are so worth it, they are stunning as a cut flower! I got a 2 week vase life on most of them! Anemones too are so beautiful. They're all my favorites only second to dahlias!
@@michelleh4588 good luck! I’m jealous if your tunnel. I garden in a small corner plot, but I’m considering planting in a community plot for additional cut flowers. It intrigues me! Thanks again!

Oh my gosh, you just rocked my world!! We live in HOT, HOT desert, transplants from the midwest. I LOVE Ranunculus, but thought here it was ridiculous to purchase them when they are at the garden centers in January in full bloom. Now I know I can enjoy them longer and yearly with a bit of care...Thank you! I am heading to the garden center tomorrow to purchase and enjoy for many years, hopefully.
Crazy suggestion that really works for bee stings, I put a copper Penny on the site ASAP then cross with 2 bandages. 5 minutes later you will barely now you have been stung. Love, love, love your videos and social media posts. Thanks
These are some of my favorite flowers! The amount of petals on each one, gorgeous!! I did dry mine last year. I'm in Oregon, zone 8b. Thank you much for these tips. I will give it a try and hope for good results ❤⚘🤗 . Hope your 🐝 bee sting is better! I got stung by a female wasp a couple months ago. I accidentally put my hand where she was hibernating. Ouch!! Took like 3 weeks to heal. 🤦♀️
This is very interesting, never have planted any of these flowers. They are so beautiful, they look like little rose's. Thank you Laura for sharing this with us.
Good morning Laura, when I use the fabric over my raised beds,I used the big black Metal paper clips, we don’t have high winds that often here, but they always hold throughout summer I’ve never had to replace them
Does anyone know how much deer love these? I’m in zone 8b, so I can plant them in the ground and leave them, provided the deer or armadillos don’t dig them . Thanks!!🌸😊 Vicki
Thanks for the reminder..with abundant deer..squirrels it doesn't make sense to plant a smorgasbord for our deer "friends ". The beauty fools my common sense.
Love watching You get these ready for planting, I have spring fever but still 3 months before we can do much. I did order Seascape strawberries last night, exciting!! As for Ranuculas, they are a big 0 for me. I soaked and planted 20 corms. 4 grew, only 1 bloomed. The ones in the ground never grew, planted late April. They don’t like 7a here.
I’m in the same zone and didn’t have great luck with them the past couple of years either, surprisingly. The ones that did grow got attacked by aphids, so I couldn’t cut and enjoy them 🤦🏽♀️
You inspired me to try ranunculus ONE LAST TIME. I have a love/hate relationship with it. I continue to see your flowers and long for that beautiful bed of bouquets. I live in Connecticut zone 5b and our temperatures fluctuate so rapidly it’s always been a fail, one day it’s 80 then dips to freezing at night. So keeping them at a constant 40 to 60 degrees is a challenge. Last year I attempted them in pots so I could move them if needed. Of 200 corms, I got one tiny little bloom. This year I’m going to try them in a raised bed, with hoops. Fingers crossed this works because if not, I will accept the defeat.
I feel much better about my ranuculas after seeing your dried up corums. I bought plants at Lowes last Spring in the clearance area for .50 each 4 pack. I dried them and ordered some new ones. Crossing my fingers!
Okay, I'm inspired to try my hand at ranunculus this year. I only started paying attention to them a couple of years ago and now they are one of my favorites. I bought a bouquet at the grocery store last week, and sadly they were past their prime (they looked great until I got them unwrapped…everything hidden by the paper was a mushy mess). I salvaged a few of them and they are absolutely stunning. Thank you for all of the good info!
I dug mine up last season, shook off the dirt and threw them under my potting bench. Completely forgot all about them. I brushed them off, soaked them and they're already sprouting. So much easier than overwintering Dahlias!

So exciting to get some growth started! I'll be getting started here soon but I'm trying not to start things too early again!
Can't wait!
I have the same problem every year haha
New subscriber. Love your videos
And so it begins. Now that the holidays are behind us, we will be doing the impatient count down to spring. These will be an amazing display.
So random for a wasp to do a stealth attack!😮. Looked like Russel was in the background snacking on the spicy little jerk. 💚💚💚
What fun. And such patience you have. Can’t wait to see!
That's going to be magical ✨️
i love ranunculus... the colors are so vibrant and their symmetry is so perfect! i like the idea of the whole raised bed garden full of them!! do it! 🥰❤ thanks for the video!! 🥰❤
This will be my first year trying them, can’t wait and thanks for all the helpful information!
So sorry about the bee. You even handled that with grace.
Hi 👋 I’m really impressed with your comment, if you don’t mind friendship please were are you from?
Good morning all have a safe and blessed day 🥰
You too!🌸
I ordered some Ranunculus. Never grow them before. They are so beautiful. I am so excited!
Hi 👋 I’m really impressed with your comment, if you don’t mind friendship please were are you from?
Laura, I really appreciate you going through the entire process of how and When you grow the flowers. Thanks, KEN for adding in the footage from the last few years! Its nearly a 'grow guide'. 😆
Thank you for being here for us!😊
Thank you Laura ❤ 2yrs ago was my first attempt to grow from corms and I left my water from my tap running slightly for 3-4 hrs to give them oxogen .
Laura aka the Queen of Saucer Resourcefulness !
Dang-those bites HURT! And she carry’s on like the trooper she is!!
They have a “rose-like” quality about their appearance, absolutely stunning! Great video as always
Thanks
I love your energy❤ Spring here we come
I am so sorry you were stung by the wasp. We have them making nests under out door tables, so I thought I would pass that on in case there is a nest under one of your potting tables. We just love your channel so much. Thank you so much.
I love your
red kitty cat,
I love your enthusiam.
I love your grow house.
God bless you
and grow well.
A bounty on your harvest.
😅 Oh Russel, that shot of him looking down at the completed trays like, “it’s ok mom, I’ll look after these for you”! It made me laugh out loud😂😂
Thank you for this step-by-step process, I'm going to rewatch this when I get my corms. I think these are one of the prettiest flowers. You make it look so easy. I appreciate you.
This came at the perfect time! I’m trying to grow these for my wedding in June of 2024. Planning to do a trial of planting this year 😊
Ranunculus are one of my favorites!
Right off the bat, you showed gardeners hiw to recycle/re-use. The plastic try was a definite 'thinking on your feet'. Love it!
(Where was spell check when you need it?🤪🙄)
Going into my third season growing ranunculus and anemones and I'm feeling very confident! Zone 5b :)
Michelle, I wonder when you begin your process. I’m in zone 5a and am considering trying this. I’d love to hear what your timeline would be.
I hope you're ok from the bee sting ouch. Russell is so loveable.
Good Morning!🌞 Russell wants to help! It is amazing how those corms plump up when soaked! Looking forward to the blooms! When you least expect it, stuff happens like that bee stinging you! Ouch!! 🐱🐈🐝🩹🌱🌸
Same, so frustrating. zone 6b
I’m in the same zone and didn’t have great luck with them the past couple of years either, surprisingly. The ones that did grow got attacked by aphids, so I couldn’t cut and enjoy them 🤦🏽♀️
Rananculus is one of my favs! Have a great day Laura!
Yes, I knew there was a plant I wanted to try out and forgot to order! Thank you for the reminder!
Love to watch them plump up after their big drink of water..Rannuculus are one of my favorites.Thank you fir anither great informative video.❤
They are the most beautiful flowers in any garden. My opinion.
Can’t wait to see them in bloom. Hope your leg is okay from being stung.😊
Trying these for the first time this year! Thank you!
I feel much better about my ranuculas after seeing your dried up corums. I bought plants at Lowes last Spring in the clearance area for .50 each 4 pack. I dried them and ordered some new ones. Crossing my fingers!
Eek! Sorry about that nasty wasp. Not something you expect in January! Geez. Another great video. Thank you! I love your channel!
