  • This is part 2 of the process to propogate your dahlias. Once the tubers you've settled into soil have sprouted a 2-4" growth, you can take a cutting, or two, or three. I show a couple ways to take the cutting in the video, but let me know your preferred way! Then tuck your cutting into soil and over the next month or two it will develop roots and be ready to grow in your gardens.
    Detailed instructions:
    - Always clean your cutting equipment between tubers, to avoid spreading disease
    - Slice or pinch the 2-4" cutting as close to the tuber as you can. If you get a small amount of tuber with it, that is just fine
    - Remove lower leaves so that you have 2-3 leaves left on the cutting. You want the cutting to spend all of it's energy making roots, not leafy growth.
    - Dibble a hole into potting soil and tuck the cutting into the soil, making sure about an inch is below the soil level
    - If your soil was not pre-moistened, water your cutting in
    - Place in a bright location or under lights
    - It could take 4-8 weeks for the cutting to develop roots, be patient! Water when the soil is dry, but let it dry out in-between waterings
    - Once all danger of frost is past
    - Let us know how it goes!
