      What if you connected two of the buttons to a motor on your camera arm that could adjust your camera angle? Maybe it could pan to two parts of your desk , one angle for gaming, another for unboxing. I know a lot of streamers may not have multiple cameras or they have only one good camera, and would want to really take advantage of that one camera they invested in.

    4:39 Visuals by Impulse has really done well for itself. I remember when they were like this unheard of thing that a guy I knew kept on pushing constantly it almost felt like kinda spammy and it looked like cookie cutter designs but now I recently looked at some of their designs and holy crap.. They're like insanely good. They have really improved across the years and IMO are the best stream-related layout design company out there.

    This is a great take.
    One thing I like to do is think up 3 options when I am working on something. Want a new logo? Get 3 of them, then look at all 3 together and find a way to tweak the best 2. Pick the best of those tweaks.
    New piece of gear? Same thing. Think of 3 things you can do with your new gear. Try them, tweak the best two and pick the best tweak.
    I find that if I just do the first thing that I think of, it is easy to fall into a rut, but if I dig a little more and come up with 3 ideas it helps keep me innovating.

    Foot pedals are great for shooters that have lean mechanics. Instead of losing your ability to strafe to opt for a lean, use a pedal to lean the direction.

    In Game push to talk with COD for me on a cheapo foot pedal I bought. Just ordered the foot pedal though from Elgato for push to talk and some code related functions for my day to day job. As a software dev, having macro keys is never a bad thing and taking my hands off the keyboard lowers productivity to press certain buttons on my streamdeck. This will let me build an compile code and run code with a tap of my foot which is nice.

  • @JorgeLG
    @JorgeLG 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    I hope that in the future they can add multiple functions to each pedal for example if you tap it one time it does this function but if you do double tap it’s gonna make a whole different thing and if you tap on hold he’s gonna be making a whole different function. That would be awesome and potential is endlessness

    Before any of this starts, what a bloody coincidence!! I was looking for pedals for my own setup. I vtube and when puppetering I need all extra hands I can. I wanted one to switch expressions in. The touch portal works fine, but first I have to move my hand from the game to there, look if I press the right button, and then I can actually smile or blush. Pedals would solve everything!

  • @jamestaylor9887
    @jamestaylor9887 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I understand the rubber feet are to prevent the product from moving around to much while on the floor. However, I feel a little versatility was lost by not providing the screw slide mounts. Depending on the desk set up you would able to place these under your desk and use your leg to hit it instead of your foot. I for one don't sit with both feet on the floor most of the time. I get that since its a foot pedal that seems pointless, but being able to mount a 3 button set up in different locations could be quite useful in a stream set up.

  • @modsquadau
    @modsquadau 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I use an overhead hand cam in OBS to capture highlights using the Replay Buffer. Reaching for the Stream Deck to hit the Record button is not only disruptive to my gameplay as I have to move my hand away from the controls, but it also makes the shot look disjointed to the viewer. Doing that periodically during a Twitch stream is ok, but a highlight video ends up being an endless stream of my hand moving out of frame to hit the Stream Deck, which looks like crap.
    Tapping on a USB foot pedal to trigger the same hotkey for OBS avoids both of those issues and doesn't require a Stream Deck. I don't use a Stream Deck Pedal (it may never be available here in Australia, based on other recent Elgato product releases), but I do use a Fragpedal Quad for the same purpose. Fragpedal uses mouse switches instead of analog switches and it's by far my favourite foot pedal, but it's not for the heavy-handed.
    By the way, Elgato got the idea for variable spring tension from the defunct Stinkyboard. Stinkyboard featured forward, back, left & right triggers, but it was heavy, noisy and clunky to use. Elgato's execution of the same core concept looks to better executed.

  • @oldmanthan

    Circling back to this video to say the spring guidance at 8:04 is indeed the play. Being able to rest my foot there has upped the usability of the thing quite a bit.

  • @Mennenth

    My one concern would be how it exposes itself to the computer. I've used cheap foot pedals before, and the computer sees them as gamepads despite having their own configuration software and I had set them up to send function keys that my keyboard lacks.
    Being exposed as a gamepad causes issues in some games. Sekiro, for example, uses the first gamepad it detects as the player 1 controller with no way to change it. That means your actual controller will not work in Sekiro.
    If the Elgato one does similar... No thanks. But if it doesnt, then I may buy it.

    • @Blessy340
      @Blessy340 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That is because the others bind to keys when it shows up as gamepad. This as shown in the video will detect like any other stream deck elgato has and not a gamepad

    • @pepsilove6306
      @pepsilove6306 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you use a input mapper you can change how the PC detects it. I have my foot pedals (not the elgato footpedal) set up so the PC detects it as a micropad keyboard extension.

    • @Mennenth
      @Mennenth 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@pepsilove6306 the problem is that on a system level (in device manager), it shows up as 2 or sometimes even 3 "2 axis 8 button gamepad". The ikkegol one I have has its own configuration software and I had it set to output keyboard function keys - that did not matter because the system still sees it as gamepads which sekiro then grabbed on to.
      The only solution was unplugging the ikkegol footswitch.
      This will supposedly not be a problem with elgatos pedals, because it shows up as a type of stream deck.

    • @EposVox

    I already have racing sim gear so I used my foot pedals and set up them up for page up and down on accelerator and clutch pedals. Usually use it on FPS games for Sprint and Jump. Take it easy on the pinky and use the space bar for dodging, or anything that is a modifier for the movement keys, such as peek or what not.
    For audio control, I use a knob for master audio from my DAC and Amplifier. And hotkeys on my mouse for discord or any one program of choosing to mute and set the volume up or down with alt plus the scroll wheel on up down and click; mainly discord currently but any program even one displaying as two tasks such as music streaming and video games. Then I have alt plus C and Z for my mic up and down. All done via volume2 app. Very popular app made by a Ukrainian or Russian fellow five years ago. (Dunno the specific country as it's all Cyrillic to me in writing and both options aside from English are in the program as options out of three.

    As for ideas, I wrote a app to use my generic pedals to help with video creation - always record, and if the right pedal is pressed, copy that clip into a 'good' folder; if the left pedal is pressed, copy that clip into the 'bad' folder and start recording again. At the end of a session, you have all the good takes in one folder for easy editing.

    This was '' almost '' a instant buy for me. Being a caster for mobile games, I do a ton of remote work in my studio. This is a great way to mute my Mic for cough/sneeze moments, and cuz i stand for 90% of the broadcast this would be extremely handy. but! I fear pedal might be too clunky/noisy, and i really wish you did some testing for how loud it is, just to see if it picks up on a microphone. I also feel this would sell better at a $50 range being to niche.

    Don't have an Elgato foot peddle, but I do have a cheap tri pedal, and honestly as a streamer its great cause you can mute or deafen yourself to be able to take to chat. Or you can set it up for P2T, I honestly wouldn't want to stream without it (even actually use it in day to day discord usage, outside of streaming)... when the current pedals I have stop working, I might consider the Elgato, but the one I have works just fine, and convenience and customization, for me isn't worth paying pretty much double the price.

    Elgato, for the most part, make *technically* good products. Mileage may vary of course but their products are usually of a high quality. However the premium they charge is usually 200% more than competitors, but generally streamers don't know that because they're not usually that informed on the tech (yes, there are those of you that a tech enthusiast, i know...) so Elgato's marketing/brand deals with content creators is all they know.
    TL;DR
    Foot pedals for PCs are not new and you can get triple pedals like this for a third of the cost.

    As mentioned by in a thread by wartab, as speedrunners footpedals have been a godsend. And yeah, they are available in cheaper variants on Amazon (and personally I'm using a 50-60 euro version), but I'll likely swap it out for this Elgato version. Footpedals need to be sturdy, which is often not the case with the cheaper variants, but this Elgato Foot Pedal looks like it fits the bill perfectly.
    The main thing that sells me on the pedal however, is the detachable USB. I have a couch-setup for streaming, meaning I have a Stream Deck on the coffee table in front of me and a foot pedal at, well, my feet. I need to have as much as possible accessible and controllable from my couch. But if I'd want to use the foot pedal for editing purposes (similar like the trim / split / trim) option, it's way too much of a hassle to remove it as I'm also trying to hide the cables.
    Integrating it with the existing Elgato software is also great, because the software I got with this button is finicky at best. I rather build up that eco-system for content creation than have these applications that, at times, look sketchy as well.
    And 3 buttons give you quite some options, even when combining it with speedrunning. Get a button to split your timing, undo and use the middle one to either mark or clip great moments. I'm looking forward to it!

    I already use the Razer Tartarus to help edit and have been eyeing the Monogram Creative Console for extra tools. So for editing I feel that wouldn't be so useful (for the hotkeys I mean), BUT I agree that memes during live streams (or being able to do camera zoom ins) is an amazing idea.
    Live time memes, camera zoom ins via the Elgato facecam, or sound effects? It removes the need to do it IN editing.
    Instead of having to do a camera zoom in while editing, I did it live, which is good for both audiences.
    Also means I get to be a bit lazier in editing/focus on other things.
    PLUS if you do it live, since the camera is a separate track, if you have the facecam for example, you can zoom in with a press of a button. If you want to do that in editing it requires either a recorded file of JUST your webcam from the entire stream that you can then slap onto the footage, OR you have to get that section of footage, place it on another track, zoom in to the camera (and deal with the quality loss), and then cut out the rest of the footage. (Or you can just zoom in the entire footage at that specific point, but regardless, if you're a content creator you can see the ideal in being able to zoom in live time vs having to edit it.) The same goes for sound effects, transitions, and memes. Instead of having to place them into the footage via editing, it's done live.

    So this is the same thing they use for transcribing audio at work. I hadn't thought of using for other things. Now I'll end up getting one for myself. Probably not the elgato as there are better and cheaper options. Now I'm thinking of all kinds of uses.

    The halo argument doesn’t work because halo having a battle royale DOES take away from the 4v4 or big team battle games.
    You only have a certain amount of people playing halo at any given time. The more game modes the more they will be separated from eachother.
    Look at call of duty modern warfare. Has battle royal and like 15 mp game mods. Many game modes take a very long time to match because nobody is playing them.
    Just like when siege has an in game event, it’s harder to find a normal match because everyone is doing the event.

    There are very similar designed foot pedals on Amazon. However, there is no detachable cable and no software. You'd have to program it yourself through obs or other software.

    This pedal looks great especially with how simple it's setup appears to be. Currently I use the Behringer FCB1010 MIDI Foot Controller. I use the FCB1010 to control parts of my DAW and OBS. Similar concept just more buttons for the guitar players that like to tap dance. I really liked your idea to use the pedal for footage editing. I'm going to see if I can rig something up to do the same with the FCB1010. If I'm lucky there will be an app out there already, otherwise it looks like some R&D and play time in Visual Studio. Awesome video and good editing as usual.

      How do you route the midi to OBS? I assume some kind of intermediary program? I have two midi foot controllers, the Roland FC300 and a Line 6 FBV3 that I use in my DAW and for controlling Neural DSP plugins. I'd like to try and use one of them as some sort of Discord PTT integration.

    Funny you should talk about using it for editing because I literally set up my stream deck with an editing profile primarily for splitting, trim to start, and trim to end so I have a nice relaxed spread with one hand on jkl to control the play through of the video and the other on the stream deck to do the actions. It's super nice! 😁

    also, I think its hilarious Elgato is finally coming out with this, I been using my racing foot pedal setup for over a year now as a very mini stream deck. Gas pedal has been push to talk, brake has been to transition to my chatting/intermission screen, and clutch has been my gaming scene. Nice to see Elgato finally catch up XD Its a shame they want double the price of a decent facing pedal set up for the same price. XD

    What about accessibility? If some one has limited/lost function on a had or arm. I do see how it could increase productivity but at $80 I would pass and just use my stream deck and if that wasn't enough a cheap numpad as a macro set. $60-70 would make it more reasonable.

    As you said at the end, any footswitch can do it, but you need to have some knowledge.Its so many possibility if you know how midi works, little tipp: OBS Studio have a little MIDI plug-in, I don't whats the status of the plugin because when I tried it it was at the beginning of the implementation and Faders for example didn't work yet, but with some Python knowledge in combination you are able to do crazy stuff.
    But the Elgato Footswitch seems to be a very easy solution for anybody also who is not much in the tech-game, so well played again elgato :)
    So Just as an Idea (let me know if there are already stuff like that on this Channel) - But I it would be nice to see how far and probably safe money you can by just using MIDI as Controller( I had this always in mind because as a Musician I have some MIDI devices which I would reuse if i would stream (I just like the stuff behind a stream not the stream itself ':D)
    Because I bet everything what Elgato do you can also do with MIDI but in complicate :D

    The have existed for years for dictation typing. The pedals have partly even 4 or 5 functions but the software is usually not so great. Like the RS-27H from Olympus. They are used for play, pause forward backward an speed settings. But they are more expensive than Elgatos Solution and i guess not that great from a quality standpoint.

    It's cool that they keep pushing the boundary with new products. Yet, I wish they would put more of a focus on updating and streamlining their software.
    The huge issue I have run into was with the Game Capture software, it seemed like it would screw up every other time I tried to record with it. Not to mention my HD60s decided it wanted a hard reboot every time I turn my PC on...
