Riley didn't realize that this could be used for more personal video calls. (Raised on Star Trek, so talking face-to-face at a monitor makes sense to me.)
Made my own XL version with a 15.6" second-monitor screen, a teleprompter large enough to cover up to 16" screens and some basic and minimal 3D printed items to bring it all together. It's big, bright and beautiful!
I legit did this with a Little Prompter back in 2020 when i was streaming drone racing. I used a phone as the screen that was receiving a chat feed where i overlayed chat over a feed from the camera so i had a confidence monitor to see myself. It was really awesome and i got a lot of comments about the eye contact when talking to chatters. I didnt have too much of a problem with fast moving chat because i only averaged 10 viewers haha but it was awesome. I 100% will buy this because my old setup was janky.
Considering what I paid for my own Neewer brand prompter (that doesn't even come with a screen!), this is an absolute steal if you just need to get up and running with as little hassle as possible. Nicely done by Elgato, hopefully this can help drive pricing down a bit.
I appreciate the fact the Riley did try to break down this devices features as best he could for a 14 minute video. But he was trying to set up an unrealistic camera configuration (no streamer is going to use a lens like that) and also not once did he talk about the integration with Stream Deck and it's ability to control the text speed.
I almost want to use that for work when I have meetings on teams. Show the teams meeting window as a display in the prompter so I can have that Deep Eye to Eye contact.
I love the fact he specifically pointed out the sticker saying "place camera here" ... and then _immediately_ attaches the camera mount the wrong way round onto the main body of the prompter LOL 😂 (he attached it with the thread meant to hold the _camera_ which has a longer section of plastic to put a camera on)
12:30 just mount the plate to the elgato prompter. It doesnt need to be mounted to the camera too. Thats why it has dual tripod mounting points. The camera can just rest on the plate.
Elgato says the prompter is light enough to hang off of the camera without a stand. I don't know if I understand your comment correctly, but I think the recommended usage is the complete opposite of what you're saying. Also, I'd probably feel better about having my way more expensive camera properly mounted compared to a cheaper screen.
I can’t wait to get one for business use on video calls. I don’t game, but I’m still hunting for productivity IO and I’ve loved having my Stream Deck for office use.

Very cool and using Riley for the review was a great choice. I love that it can be another monitor. When they pair it with machine learning/"AI" so it can listen along to the reading and automatically match the rate of speaking and automatically detect pauses, then this product becomes an instant buy. Hope the fix the ability to scroll through a script, too.
The video option would be absolutely killer for people who regularly do video calls. Being able to look directly at the other person and have eye contact would be way more engaging
Hanging stuff off the lens is a good way to break the lens mount on your camera. As a professional photographer and cinematographer with over 15 years of experience, the way to make this work would be to use a rails system (something simple like a small 15mm rail system would give you the mounting options you would need). Also, the lens shown isn't that long when discussing dslr and mirrorless lenses. Even thinking about my 16-35mm f2.8 Sony GM (an ultra wide lens) and comparing it to this simple f4 super zoom (that is shown), well they're pretty close to the same length. Sure, the super zoom is slightly longer but it's also skinnier. TLDR: like all of Elgato's product line, it works well enough for non-professionals or for twitch streamers but it's not a product that would survive in a production environment.
This really shouldn't be a concern... the prompter weighs 690g, while a 400/f2.8 lens comes at about 2.8 kg and 600/f4 3.1 kg (Canon EF). And unlike the prompter, the lenses get waved around, snag on stuff and receive all kinds of knocks and bumps while out on a shoot. If this was an issue, all the wildlife photographers would be walking around with broken cameras. Lens mounts are incredibly sturdy, especially on higher-end bodies.
Cheer~~~a person seated out of sight of the audience who supplies a forgotten word or line to an actor during the performance of a play.(good machine)😊
The idea is to use a wide angle lens which tends to be a bit shorter as you want to be close enough to read the text. You can also get an extension rail for a bigger camera.
While that lens could work for a fairly close situation like this is intended to be used for, it seems like a fringe choice to me. If you try to accommodate every zoom lens from every manufacturer that can get a somewhat wide angle, you're going to end up with a bulky, absurd product. They probably tested kit lenses and wide to normal primes and figured if those fit, that covered 90%+ of what people would be using with this.
@@Studio19designwhich wide angle lenses? Are you talking about the super cheap 14mm lenses by Rokinon and the like? They're designed for APS-C sensors and not full frame cameras. For the problem with mounting the camera, I think you could put the camera on a mounting rail that you attach to the platform. Should probably let you use longer lenses
It's no longer available anywhere. Elgato has changed their links to "notify when in stock" even removing the backorder purchase options. It's no longer on their product pages, and has been stripped from Amazon and B&H etc.
I can see this being great for zoom interviewers. For example, having a high stakes med school interview and making eye contact with the camera while having talking points overlayed...
I heard him say that it can be used with your phone...would have been good to see this, as often I'm out on location solo and would be nice to send/control this from the phone that's already in my pocket as opposed to it being an external monitor for a pc or mac laptop.....
It's a nice single package and looks well built. I can absolutely see how this fits well into a streamers setup, but the fact that you have to have it connected to a computer all the time is a bit of a downside. I realise having to buy a separate tablet or phone for one makes things more expensive and it isn't as nice of a package, but being able to have the teleprompter be a completely standalone device is quite useful in a lot of situations.
This looks perfect for taking photographs of small children who are more likely to pay attention to either a video or a family member being on the tablet, you would not believe how difficult it is to have an infant look straight into the camera lens
You'd probably need a rail system to mount it. Pretty sure it's not rated for moving the camera around when it's hanging off the lens. Unless, I suppose, you don't mind risking your $4k+ camera's lens mount 😂
I would really advice against hanging the prompter on the lens without any support, you can mess the helicoidal inner guts, get the inner lens barrel misaligned, etc. Which can create all sorts of issues in the future (from misaligned focus plane to the focus mechanism getting stuck) Lenses aren't designed to have so much weight hanging from the front. Elgato should be wary of recommending using the prompter without support hanging from the lend like that as it can lead to customers asking for repair if this way of using the product damages their costumer lenses.
Lens mounted matte/filtration boxes have been around for a long time without issue. Something this light isn't really going to be that much of a problem.
Idk why I've never thought of it before, but watching this made me ask: Why don't we use teleprompter setups for video calls...? It seems like it solves the entire "eye contact issue" very easily.
Love this!! You know who needs this for reals though? Gamers Nexus. He's looking down in 50% of his videos at paper notes. Instead of printing it out for each episode, he could use this and be talking to the camera 100% of the time!!
Awesome video! I want to buy this for my work but I have a very quick question. Does this teleprompter need the Elgato software to screen share from a laptop (I have a MacBook) My work has very strict rules about installing new software and I just want to screen share from my Mac and use a free teleprompter website or Microsoft Word. Thank you in advance :)
This seems tempting for my A/V class, but still a little on the pricey side. Can anyone point me to a way to have a remote to control the scroll speed?
Hi there! Great breakdown and great video, thanks. I'm thinking about getting one but worried it's a wee bit too small for my project - mostly I'll be standing 3 to 6 feet from camera and shooting long form content - think it's good at that distance or should I think about something bigger?
I could never do a livestream chat. On top of that I need text to be bigger. That’s one of the reasons I have my monitor set at 720P versus native 1080P (reading any text)
The camera that has the prompter is not so crispy and clear like the main front camera you are using, is it a camera issue or is the mirror affecting the overall video recording?!
Considering that professional teleprompters begin at the price point of the elgato and don't include a display I would say this is definitely a solid option for the price

This might be really useful for baby photos. Display some content on the prompter to get them to look directly at the lens.
I can see this being great for zoom interviewers. For example, having a high stakes med school interview and making eye contact with the camera while having talking points overlayed...
Riley, your hair is so perfect like wooh you look like a model sorry but it's a fact
I heard him say that it can be used with your phone...would have been good to see this, as often I'm out on location solo and would be nice to send/control this from the phone that's already in my pocket as opposed to it being an external monitor for a pc or mac laptop.....
Kitaboga crossover was excellent
It's a nice single package and looks well built. I can absolutely see how this fits well into a streamers setup, but the fact that you have to have it connected to a computer all the time is a bit of a downside.
I realise having to buy a separate tablet or phone for one makes things more expensive and it isn't as nice of a package, but being able to have the teleprompter be a completely standalone device is quite useful in a lot of situations.
Flawless segue.
This is exactly what I want. I'm going to buy this
I want to see more Riley Reviews.
No video call, teams meeting with eye contact
This is also great for video conferences
Man alive, what’s the software you download, using a mac book, how do you import text or what do you use? Show us the stuff that matters
I would really advice against hanging the prompter on the lens without any support, you can mess the helicoidal inner guts, get the inner lens barrel misaligned, etc. Which can create all sorts of issues in the future (from misaligned focus plane to the focus mechanism getting stuck)
Lenses aren't designed to have so much weight hanging from the front.
WANT!!!!!! Wish I could get my hands on one!
Actually great for zoom calls working from home
That feeling when you have to record a video but the neighbour keeps playing his loud music.
It seems like you can 3d print even adapters for cameras or phones that are not supported.
Thank you in advance :)
it would be kinda cool if you used the special glass with a normal monitor and game on it like you do with ipads
This seems tempting for my A/V class, but still a little on the pricey side. Can anyone point me to a way to have a remote to control the scroll speed?
Oooooo this will be FANTASTIC for streaming our d&d!!
Good segue editor
Hi there! Great breakdown and great video, thanks. I'm thinking about getting one but worried it's a wee bit too small for my project - mostly I'll be standing 3 to 6 feet from camera and shooting long form content - think it's good at that distance or should I think about something bigger?
6:48 James said it once before: Don't Use this Technology with a mustache.
It was the Nvidia maxine Eye contact ai Short-Video if anyone is wondring what im talking about
I could never do a livestream chat. On top of that I need text to be bigger.
That’s one of the reasons I have my monitor set at 720P versus native 1080P (reading any text)
use the elgato foot pedal for scrolling
So that's what tablets are used for?
Kitboga ftw! :D
Did LMG deliberately enable midrolls or is this youtube being youtube? I got the usual ads before the video then two sets of midrolls.
Can you hook it up to an iPhone instead of a computer?
The camera that has the prompter is not so crispy and clear like the main front camera you are using, is it a camera issue or is the mirror affecting the overall video recording?!
So why not just use a mat screen with scroling action?
as a normal user, I really like the twitch chat integration
I used to flip coils in CRT...
Finally eye contact in videochats!
Curious, is the purple bar light behind you actually that glowy or is it the prompter making it look different?
I would have loved to have this a decade ago.
Why is no-one talking about the cameo at 1:45??????
