  • I'm going to try to survive and thrive in Vintage Story while hopefully building an interesting home in the process. The goal is to reach the steel age and build some wind power in the process. It may be a long journey!

    More About The Game:
    Vintage Story is an uncompromising wilderness survival sandbox game inspired by eldritch horror themes. Find yourself in a ruined world reclaimed by nature and permeated by unnerving temporal disturbances. Relive the advent of human civilization, or take your own path.
    Progress through multiple ages
    Start out empty-handed in the stone age and learn to survive by foraging, hunting, crafting, and fighting. Live through the four seasons and advance further by smelting copper for more powerful tools, creating bronze alloys, learning to work iron, mechanize common tasks and ultimately reach the steel age.
    A wicked universe backed by original story elements
    Take on the role of a lost being in the body of a tall blue creature and discover the remnants of civilization. There is no linear storytelling; it is up to you to piece together who you are and what has happened from the little evidence that remains. During your journey you will encounter wayward creatures, find old stories, battle temporal instability, and endure temporal storms.
    One million square kilometers of procedurally generated landscapes
    Enter a vast open world populated by a range of cute, strange, dangerous, and horrifying creatures. Vintage Story utilizes a great deal of procedural technology to create immensely diverse landscapes, climate conditions, and geological features to always keep exploration fresh and exciting.
    Not just hardcore!
    Vintage Story offers multiple playstyles and a huge amount of customization options when you create a new game world. You have the power to choose a creative experience, a peaceful world, balanced survival, hardcore wilderness survival or quite literally anything in between.
    Unreal world simulation
    Having undergone 6 years of continuous development the VS game engine now fully and believably simulates seasons, soil fertility, rock strata, localized weather patterns, rain, snowfall & snow accumulation, hail, realistic climate distributions, food spoilage, body temperature, animal husbandry, farming, block physics, inspiring sunsets and nightskies, mineralogy, knapping, clayforming, metallurgy, smithing, microblock editing and more
    Inspired by Nature
    Vintage Story is heavily inspired by natural processes of the real world and brings them into the game in a fun and enjoyable way. Our aim is to capture the beauty of the natural world and amplify the experience within our game.

    I've been keeping my eye on this game so I'm glad that your putting out content for it because I enjoy your playstyle! I've been seeing build tutorials and figured they weren't functional. It's nice to see the improvements, annoying parts that are fixed with mods, and progression!

      It's quite enjoyable. On standard settings it's much more of a grind but some folks enjoy that.

    Raccoons will spawn and eat your berries! They thankfully won't destroy the bushes themselves. It is still advisable to either put a 2 block deep pit (but it can be 1 block wide so you can easily jump over) around your berries, or a fence around your berries - if you want to use the fence, I'd advise having a one block gap between your berries and the fence itself to keep the little critters from reaching their grubby little mitts through.
    As for this game, I'm so so so excited more people I like are playing this game! I got sucked in in August, and in the intervening month and change since, I've Infected all of my local friends, and even some I only know online!

    I've played the TerraFirmaCraft mod for Minecraft for years. It's interesting to see it translated into a standalone game. If it was on Steam I would have already bought it. Probably will buy it anyway, eventually.

      It is quite good! The immersion is much better than TFC due to being standalone. Also Vintage Story started as a Minecraft mod called Vintagecraft that was developed before TFC. The developers found Minecraft too limiting for their image of the game which is why they moved to a standalone format.

      @@newkkl Yup, already did. Now my problem is finding enough food to keep me alive while my crops mature. For some reason all the deer that were running around disappeared as soon as I made myself a bow. So it's rabbit for dinner again...

    Press F5 once for 3rd person view. Press F5 again for 'overhead' view which at first looks the same except that you can spin the camera around to face your character but when you move forward then the camera will move to behind your character until you stop and adjust cam view again. Press F5 a 3rd time to return back to 1st person.
    Good video, I'm going to experiment a bit with mini-cellars in my dirt hovel.

    You never get a full load of charcoal because some of the wood is consumed in the process of making it.

    Oh also! For Auto map marker, the *latest* file is for 1.20 - if you go back to the mod page, click "files" above the preview images, it will show you the older versions of the mods, and then what version of Vintage Story that mod version is for. You can pretty easily find the latest version for 1.19.8 (sometimes listed as 1.19.x) there

    Hey there GTG!
    I'm curious about the four baskets you have on your hotbar. Are they just for show, or do they actually add space to your inventory? You made them in the first episode, but I've never seen you use them.
    Also, glad to see more content from you as I was getting worried about you.

    • @GrindThisGame
      @GrindThisGame  17 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      You start with a hotbar only. Each basket added 3 more slots to the inventory. So now I have my inventory of 12 and hotbar. The baskets in the hut are a different type which you can place down. There are bigger versions like the leather backpack I'll try to get eventually.
      I'm being more selective with the games I turn into videos these days. I really need to love the game to record it. Don't be worried :)

      @@GrindThisGame Thank you for the clarification, as I was totally confused.
      I completely understand your decision to only record games you love playing (I could tell that you weren't really enjoying the last round of ONI)
      I promise to not worry too much....only a little bit.

    When you take down your torches and put them back up the timer resets. Just reset them once a day until you find some torch holders and you’re good.

    So can i theoretically make an above ground cellar as long as all sides are covered? Or how does it know when it can be a cellar instead of a house? I heard the cellar could only be 7x7x7 or smaller, but does it need a specific Y depth? I have been enjoying the game! And i personally like seeing everything being made. From what i understand, thats eventually how all things will be done, well, being made outside of a crafting grid, but im not sure. But it wouldnt bother me one way or another if it was kept in or taken out. Whichever way you prefer! ^_^

    • @GrindThisGame
      @GrindThisGame  17 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      The wiki goes into cellars in more detail. Temo and light exposure matters.

    • @loriandavis
      @loriandavis 17 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Yes. Any area no larger than 7x7x7 that is sealed counts as a cellar. A house is any area that is bigger than a cellar up to 14x14x14 that is sealed.
