I’ve always loved Beyoncé’s lows. She really made me fall in love with them again when she did “otherside” off of black is king. She was in the BASEMENT
Beyoncé’s lower range has always been where I like to hear her, but she rarely used to sing that low. But now it’s her sweet spot, so she's singing in it pretty regularly, and she sounds great. And the tone and richness her voice has developed makes her sound even better when she sings low. And I actually like this version of “Be Alive“ better than the studio recorded version, because she took it down a step and just sounds better generally.
She utilizes her lower range moreso in her background harmonies which can be heard heavily throughout her DC days! Also her self titled album was a clear indication of the register! Her lower range is so beautiful and I’m glad she’s exploring it more as she ages!
@michaelsliders3421 she's always sang mezzo, but I think her voice is naturally lower. That was a decision made for her as the lead of a pop r&b group. I'm glad she's decided to embrace her lower register more
You’re the only vocal expert who enjoyed her lows as much as I did. When she sang “It feels so good” at the end, I lifted my 🙌. I need more of that from her.
@@jmlegrairstudio I think its because she actually carries tone down there so there is not this huge disparity denoting lows from the rest of the chest voice. Otherside is one of my favorite songs ever from her and its low low but seemingly casual singing for her. You almost don't realize shes flowing through the third octave with peaks in the fourth.
Mr. Legrair I never knew singing was so hard, so complex and multi-faceted. Beyonce, Patti, Whitney and Aretha make it look so simple, like a normal day at the office. I'm so glad we have these amazing artist share their gifted instruments with the world.
I hadn't seen this performance until now and I love an orchestra. They did a phenomenal job!! The background vocals she did are beautiful. I love Beyoncé's bravado and her lows.
Good to have you back! And thank you for highlighting that gritty texture @ 12:27. That little second is one of my favorite vocal moments in the performance
Beyonce has always had an amazing low register! Shes been going super low practically her entire career however she just never stayed there! Her 1st time was her song Mine ft Drake
Beyoncé is jus a goat, everything about her from performance, Vocals, production, stage presence, even her ability to incorporate everyone on stage with her. She never disappoints 💯
I think she’s mastered her technical perfection even more over the years and now a days she delineates it for us with vocal gymnastics that sounds beautiful. To me, more than ever, she is showing that while she can mesmerize you physically, don’t get so lost in the sweet sound that you fail to realize how she’s bobbing up and down with her voice in a sophisticated and precise way. I absolutely love it It’s the anti-early Beyoncé It’s the anti-Christina Aguilera It’s full sophistication and maturity
I think an excellent review to do of Beyoncé is her singing the The way we were at the Kennedy Center Honors for Barbara Streisand. Its so pure and different for her.
Your analysis is just so perfect. I really like your approach. It's meaningful and provides a learning opportunity for those who might not be as musically inclined...
Your advice on letting the transition between chest and head shine in its difference is something i will take with me. I critique myself so heavily because i don't feel my transition is fluid enough. I've never heard anyone else say just let that transition be heard and SHINE so thank you so much for that!
You’re the only reaction I’ve seen to this masterpiece performance clocking that yodel she did and it is 🤌 chef’s kiss in the performance. Stellar vocals matched with an arrangement and production second to none made this an unforgettable act.

The constriction was evident in her tribute to Kobe Bryant. I attributed it to her physical maturing... But I hear you and it makes sense. So glad I found you. 😊❤️
What would you consider her current vocal classification, I know she’s always been considered a mezzo soprano but I feel like now she could be considered more so an alto!!
Not really she’s still a mezzo soprano just with stronger and fuller lows her higher range is still there. She just chooses not to sing high all the time which I think it’s a very good choice for every singer once you’re older. No need to proof anything at this point.
Altos a choral position not a vocal classification. Her tonality has darkened and her tessitura (comfortable singing range) has just shifted likely due to age and multiple births. However she still possesses the characteristics of a mezzo soprano.
Welcome back! Is it my imagination or does Bey have excellent breathe control? It seems like she doesn't intake breathe as often as some other artist or she has learned to do it quietly. So the phrases in between breathes seem longer than her contemporaries.

Despite the expansion of her bottom register, her voice is much comfortable in the mid-range. She never sings down there for too long.
