I rode bikes on the road, then did track days, instructed at track school for 10 years & raced… so I was/am a pretty skilled rider. & I VERY RARELY got to the edge of a front or even a rear tyre on the road. As he said… if you’re doing this on the road, you’re making big mistakes or riding like an absolute nutter!
Tyre profile plays a huge part in how wide chicken strips are. I remember when i replaced the infamous OEM Dunlop Roadsport 2s on my old Z900 with a set of Metzeler Roadtec 01 SE. It almost looked like it had been fitted with a narrower rear tyre just because of how much steeper the profile was on the Metzeler.
I second this. I swapped the metzelers on my bike for Michelins and while the metzeler had a decent amount or unused tyre the Michelin has next to none for the exact same riding style. In fact I now actively find myself trying to reduce the amount I lean the bike over by hanging off a lot more than I used to for the same corner speed / radius to try and stop running so close to the edge. Its all about the tyre profile but I doubt I'll be getting another set of the Michelins.

I stopped riding for nearly 30 years on road bikes after my wife’s brother was killed during the IOM TT, but thankfully I am back riding , the influence was purely my wife was terrified of bikes but that subsided and now I enjoy my bike time👍
Love these videos and so good to hear Neevesy address the elephant in the room - CHICKEN STRIPS! Rightly or wrongly its the firt thing i do when i pull up to Llandrindod wells cafe next to all the Ducatis and KTMs etc on my street triple. Walking around the bikes checking the strips - Bloody hell im surrounded by track sharks here - not a chicken strip in sight! Must try harder! BUT it is true what Neevesy says, most of these old guys dont move around much on their bike.....I've tried doing both styles on the roads... Stay in centre of bike - if you try this with minimum body input, you can feel the bike using more of the tyre and more lean angle. Hang off - you can feel the opposite and the bike doesn't need to lean as much therefore more chicken strips. I have managed to get my chicken strips down to about a fingers width - silly isn't it but most bikers do look at this. Anyway, thanks Neevesy for bringing this up made me feel better about my slim chicken strips lol.
These chats are great. The majority(?) of GP boys seem to keep their feet forward. It’s not what everyone did when I was young but current tuition seems to advocate it and there’s logic to it. As an aside, you told me “get a SportClassic Dean” - 2006 SportClassic bought and arriving within a week, which is lucky as my SP2, another recommendation of yours, has an oil leak from the engine… 2,000km and less than one year old… 🙈
Hi Michael, loving the videos just watched five in a row! But hey my question is, what bike would you like to see built that may have been rumoured or could be built from a bike manufacturers engine range, so for me I'd like to see the Yamaha R9 and a 650 Himalayan be built.
If you could choose 3 ‘pretty’ bikes from any era to just look at and occasionally ride.. what would you choose? Heart over head choice.. For me, It would absolutely be a mint UK spec Honda RC30, a Yamaha OW01 and a Ducati 888 SP5..(a close 4th would be the bike you mentioned, a GSXR750RRK) The late 80’s / 90’s were THE era for gorgeous Sportbikes.. much missed, sigh..
Iv been riding 30 odd years and find the chicken strip obsession is usually brought up by new riders or inexperienced who have only had there licences a couple of years. After couple years riding generally people just don't really care about them anymore

I commented only the other day about chicken strips, more or less word for word with your opinion, if your riding is on normal roads amongst other traffic you shouldn’t be using all of the tyre, as you’ve just alluded your riding is far too dangerous if your scrubbing all of the tyre on normal roads.
I enjoy your vids and insight r u able to offer me some bike geometry advice I’m building a fz961 basically an fz750 with a fz/fzr/ R one ( 5vy,4xv) engine I want to put gsxr1000k3/k4 front forks in it as I got them at a good price but all the modern usd forks r very short compared to an fz or older bike should I retain the 48 mm( I think) mm offset of the yolks ( will be using 17 “ front wheel) or can I go to something a bit more modern on the yolks ( the newer bikes seem to use less offset) thanks for your help and awesome vids
I respect MN as an experienced motorcycle journalist. His response on the chicken strip question is as politically correct as his job allows but i sense a hint of hypocrisy judging by the way he rides when he is on a test ride. As per usual, riders sans CS on street riding 'wear' them with pride as they trust the modern tires which offers superb grip (on dry and safe conditions) while the 'others' will always diss the subject as a non event (but they secretly wished to the contrary) . I'd like an "off-the-record" , buddy-to-buddy answer from Mr. Neeves if the opportunity arises.
I am 56 and can't remember the last time I had chicken strips.... 🤷🏼♂️😎 I haven't watched the video yet, but from the comments I gather, that I am supposed to have at least 1 inch wide strips... 😮
CRT: It may seem like your bike skills are going to pot, but you have PTSD and that will affect other aspects of your life, so the bike is just a symptom. Go talk to a Bereavement & Loss Counsellor. Time is the great healer if you don't fancy that.
interesting to hear your thoughts on chicken strips. I don't ride with leathers or knee sliders - and only ride on the road - hence my tyres have chicken strips. No one has commented on them although I'm well aware of what they are and peoples thoughts.... funny how on bikes the community is all about pointing out your flaws and issues.... yet when I get in a car - I just drive the thing and no one gives a sh1t or judges me, TBH though I'm a grown man and have my own opinions and thoughts.... and a happy to just ride my own ride. there's nowt queer as folk as they say!
To the man wanting a Ducati. Get one they are amazing and not money pits really, get a good indie to service it and save a load of money there. I was out on Saturday parked it up came back and people were taking pics of it. Bit showy but it makes you feel good. I’ve got the 1299s and it’s great , silly fast and way too much for the road but it’s a Ducati. Don’t ride in 30 plus degrees if you plan on having kids, it boils you alive if you hit traffic 😂
I feel exactly the way about my V4S. I started looking at 1299s but the V4 came up and I've not looked back. I get exactly the same as you. So much more than just a motorbike 😍
Great to see you doing all these videos Neevesy! Love the geek out and bike chat!! I wanted to ask your thoughts please about the use of tinted visors on helmets. I saw the recent MCN weekly wind-on talking about the crack down on tinted visors by the North West police force. I always carry a tinted and clear visor with me so I can swap them out for whatever the weather/visibility conditions are. I’ve been riding motorcycles for over 25 years and have lost count on how many times I’ve been blinded by the glare of the sun. Surely it’s down to using common sense and not using the wrong visor in the wrong conditions. I don’t see how wearing a tinted visor is not ok but wearing dark sunglasses under a visor is!
its not about vision mate. its about the camera getting you're mug shot fella. look at the new average speed cameras. There are mug shot cameras on the first pole. A tinted visor makes that technology useless in court.
I finally got the Ducati itch scratched, with an 899 Panigale last August, so glad you can recommend that! I think that the sane ergonomics, mirrors that work and lack of cam belts take away the negatives that held me back previously. Great bike, road and track.
To the guy with the confidence issue. Your friend had a heart attack... you said it yourself it was not the bike. So I think you should be more worried about your diet than afraid of your bike. Maybe give up that steak, or the fish and chips and start eating a whole food plant based diet, which is shown to promote health and prevent and even reverse heart diseases and other nasty lifestyle affections. I had a similar experience, although I didn't know the person. It happened at a track day... someone had a heart attack and died right there, while riding his bike. He was quite a popular guy and the people who knew him were visibly shaken, but we also recognized that he died doing what he loved, instead of suffering of a long illness and dying on a hospital bed. Celebrate life, ride today, you never know what tomorrow has in store.

Just read in MCN about your H2 1000SX being nicked.. I can only imagine how you felt when you realised it had been stolen. Let’s hope karma bites them hard some time soon! Anyway, cool vid.. Been riding 34 years now and have 6 classic 90’s bikes in the garage. My bikes do have chicken strips, but in my defence I have turned 51 and only ride on the road. 😇 The older I get, the faster I was! 😁🤙🏽
Triumph did drop the ball with the RR. 💯. As the owner of an RR. It's by far the worst bike I've ever owned. It's uncomfortable in a way that is hard to comprehend. Oh. The mirrors are useless and the gearbox is really vague. Awful bike. Edit. Ok. Not awful. It's just. The clip ons make it so horrible and painful to ride. Which is really annoying, as the electric suspension is soooooooo comfortable

My girlfriend of 10 years at that time was thrilled that I couldn’t ride here. However, a couple of years ago I got my licence and love riding my Ducati Diavel 1260S, but I am lucky my girlfriend hasn’t ditched me. Have all those around you always supported your riding or have you experienced the naysayers that think motorbikes are a death trap? Hi nevesy, Glad to here you still love the 750, iv a l6 750 that I was planing on changing for a 1000 of some description next year. However because I love the bike I'm no building it up into my ultimate version. Folks are currenty at k-teck having dds internals an a dds rear shock. Dymag up7x wheels, tube subframe, crc boddy work. to add to whats already done. After listing to what you have to say about the 750 I'm sure iv made the right dessusion an she makes my ultimate track bike. Top work as always an thank you. 👍
Any thoughts on the Panigale V2 tank and seat ? I want to love the bike but hate the tank. It is low and very sloped forward. Offers no support. Being 196cm tall doesn't help either. Any tips on how to "fix" the tank issue ?

I’d never judge a rider for chicken strips, I ride pretty fast when it’s reasonable to and I still have 1/4-1/2inch left no matter what on the street. It was pretty fun though pulling up to a bike night a few weeks ago and hearing all the younger fellas go “damn look at his back tire” most of the street riders I meet all have at least a hands worth on each side or more. If that’s the case, i suspect you can’t properly steer the bike and probably roll through turns so slow you need to clutch it. Not trying to be mean but if that’s you, you need to practice more
Was not sure how to send a thought i had but will just use the comments section here to express my way of thinking about Top Rak going to BMW - I was thinking that his move might have another motive. What if this is in preparation for BMW to enter Moto GP and has signed Top Rak with the promise of a Moto GP ride if it all works out. Just a thought but stranger this has happened.
Chicken strips are especially stupid when you realise you can wear them off doing car park maneuvers. One TH-cam channel pointed out that it was even dumber than people realised by the fact on his bike you can literally drop the bike and have it spin round on its crash protectors beyond where a human can lean, and still have chicken strips!
I mean if you've got no chicken strips where I live, it's only a question of time before you get killed by a tractor, a deer, cyclists etc etc..far too dangerous to wack into corners like that

I’m surprised at your ignorance. The angles required to remove a rear chicken strip is far from maximum bank angle. The difference between front and rear is also more to do with carcass construction as the rear need to deform more and the front needs more rigidity.
Can you take some time to talk through your helmet collection? When, where and how did you get those lids? How significant are the graphics on them? Is there one that has more sentimental value? Which lid do you instinctively grab at a moment's notice?

hi mate, I actually had a workmate make the dumb comment about having chicken strips on my tyre and then he bragged about how he never had them on his tires. Anyways he then said I must ride really slow and then asked me how fast I ride when I told him I sit around 80 mph and what my corner exit speeds were his bottom lip almost touched the ground. I don't ride at 80 mph normally 70 mph, but I was straight up about my corner exit speed. I have a ZX14.

If they have not yet ridden a KTM 890R then they really should try one. What an eye opener. I think you'll agree - not just a one trick pony. Light, flickable, ultimate bike for road. Hi Neeves, my favourite motorcycle reviewer I've been riding motorcycles for the most of the last 20 years, been using clutchless upshift without issue for as long as i can remember, would say i got pretty good at it😅 I've recently tried a friend's SuperdukeR with both quick upshift and downshift(auto blipper) I don't feel much difference with the upshifting speed, First question, is it possible that manual clutchless upshift to be as fast as a quickshifter? Second question, is is possible to perform clutchless downshift without damaging the gearbox/clutch? Thank you for your response🎉
Hey, I am a young rider (been riding for about 5 years)wanting to get into track riding. I only have adv tourer bikes (nc700x and Versys 1000) and suffer from a hernia. Is there a bike you could recommend for track riding that would be more comfortable than a full on sports bike? I am now considering a bmw f800st. But i don't see a lot of alternatives except a ninja 650 that have a pretty comfortable yet slightly forward riding position.
I've been riding since the late 70's and owned and ridden a sh** load of bikes, probably not as many as you Neevesy I suspect, but my all time favourite GSX-R750 has to be the 2000Y model, just because it was a huge step on from the previous SRAD, much lighter better suspension, more power, in fact I remember a year 2000 PB group test when that bike was faster round the same track than an SP1, which was a hand built HRC legend... I loved mine and on track settings and decent sticky Pirelli's it was as quick and sometimes faster, down the twisties than my mates much newer K8 750, I'd have another in a heart beat, as a road or track bike, even though they are getting on now, they are still for me the pinnacle of GSX-R750's, but now at 60-odd years of age, and not having a safe or decent place to keep a bike, I've sadly decided to stop riding, something I never thought would happen...but I had my GSX-R1000 stolen in 2017 when I was living abroad from an allegedly secure place, which made me question do I still want to have a bike... I tried to get back into bikes when I came back to UK, but something just didn't fit right so after a year of owning a year 2000 Blade I sold it and am now bikeless.... 😟
Neevesy, not sure where to send the questions in that you answer on here but I've got one for you.....can you recommend a good emergency toolkit for roadside breakdowns? I have an MV Superveloce and it only has enough space for a big-wallet. Dont really want to ride with a tank-bag as it would spoil the look of the bike. Maybe a rucksack would be a good idea, water, phone, toolkit and sandwiches. Keep up the vids theyre fantastic, cheers.
I bumped into a bunch of riders taking some training, they all were on 1000cc + bikes and were nearly all new riders. Almost all of them had huge chicken strips, like the bike probably lent further on the side stand, I honestly wondered what the hell they were doing on bikes let along such powerful machines. I had a chat about riding and they all admited to be new riders and found cornering difficult, hence the training. The instructor with them didn't like it when I suggested they would be better off reading Twist of the wrist and learning better machine control and cornering techniques. One of the lads said that by having big chicken strips it gave him a wider margin for error, I dissagreed, said if he ever hit a corner faster than he was comfortable with, he wouldn't lean the bike further, he would run wide as his strips showed his maximum lean angle, and would be no different to me hitting the same corner to fast for me. Everybody's 10/10ths is different, I don't think it makes you more or less safe, providing you stay within your capabilities
Loving these thanks for asking videos. You always talk pasionatly about the GSXR 750 and the 1000 but what about the 600. I owned 3 of these. A SRAD, a K1 and a K5 and loved them. Also one thing I really love about your bike reviews is you always mention when they have noisy screens and hardly any other reviewer does. Like you I suffer badly on bikes with noisy screens. I had a Versys 1000 and had to sell it because of the screen noise. The touring screen on my Ninja 1000sx is unusable because of this and last year I didn't buy a Tigersport 660 because of the noisy screen. What are your thoughts on this and why it seems to affect some riders and not others? Btw im only 5 foot 9 so it cant be just a height thing?
I had a 1988 slingshot in 1989 (blue and white). I loved that bike and still dream its in the garage. I sold it after 2 years as moved to Hong kong. Never had another bike for over 30 years (im 56 now) and recently bought a new Pani v4s
Neevesy! When I started riding (almost 20 years ago) it was almost assumed everyone should start on a 125 or 250 and you'd be crazy to start on a 600. These days bikes like an RS 660 are often recommended as a 'beginner' bike, is it just safer to start on bigger bikes now due to ABS/new tech and generally bikes getting better or is it more of an industry driven push to sell more expensive bikes? Is it that a 250 used to be a 19k revving screamer (mc22 cbr250rr) and now everything is slightly more docile? Thoughts?
Interesting comments about middleweight bikes. Just considering one myself to ride around the Almeria roads, where you do quite a few launches, rather than my Fireblade. As you know these roads I was wondering which you would choose. I’m looking at new so I can keep it over there without the hassle of an mot for 3 years. Considering a gas gas/husqvarna/ktm supermoto or the Aprilia 660 Tuono factory. Do like the Fantic Caballero 500 that I know you like but not sure if it would be a bit underpowered for the mountain roads. Might have been ok with the 700 but it doesn’t seem to be coming and seems over priced now given they had originally said it was going to be £1k less (and here by Spring 23)
Ad Chicken strips: Just got my first street bike about 2 months ago the GSX-S 750 and was "worried" about the chicken strips. Now I am 7 000km in, already on second rear tire and no chicken strips. And no I dont ride with straight elbows. And yes there are very few corners on the roads where you can see all the way through and fully commit and lean in...
Thank you for this video, it’s made me realise my body position on my Multistrada is wrong (no chicken strips) and when I ride my Blackbird it’s correct (chicken strips present) 👍😊
Great Vid! Really interesting to hear you talk about adapted riding styles due to injury. I had a knee replacement aged 23 before my journey with bikes had really began. Determined not to let my injury dictate my passion for sports bikes I bought a Panigale V4 to use on track. A few adaptations and its going really well. I do struggle with my right toe dragging on the floor through corners. Any more info/tips on your adapted riding style would be greatly appreciated. 👍🏼
@@morri03 It's being promoted to new riders, which i hadn't seen before. Mind you, I had confused 'backing it in' with 'trail braking'.... neither of which i'd recommend to new riders. Yeah, I've also been 'trail braking' for over 40 years but never realised it was a term.

Lots of road warriors out there clowning on chicken strips having never understood just how much bad body position affects lean angle relative to speed in the corner. Everyone is so excited to touch a knee on the street meanwhile they're holding you up and your knee is a foot off the ground.
Thanks for another great video. I must say I've never cared about chicken strips. I'm rubbish on the road going around corners so that is probably a good thing! lol Because mine must be massive. Anyway, very true about suggesting a smaller bike to get his confidence up. My 1st bike was and still is a 1200gs. But I will never forget when I rode an 899, not only was it amazing but it was lie my confidence increased a 1000% going into a corner...So even though I'm rubbish that did help. I want to get a 2nd bike once my finances allows it again and not sure when that will ever be..But fancy a V2 today..Should be the same as the 899 but more refined and easier to ride as slow speed I believe. Or perhaps the new naked Sukuzi. Will be much cheaper. Probably more fun top. Anway. Love your videos and these talks. Best there is on the Internet.

I was thinking the same and believe with would affect it as well like 180 vs 200, I can edge a 180 easier than a 200 profile tire.

Iv been riding 30 odd years and find the chicken strip obsession is usually brought up by new riders or inexperienced who have only had there licences a couple of years. After couple years riding generally people just don't really care about them anymore
Perhaps someone has said this and I haven't noticed, but... why not writing a book? I see several buyers already here, and loads of good stories. 😁

I commented only the other day about chicken strips, more or less word for word with your opinion, if your riding is on normal roads amongst other traffic you shouldn’t be using all of the tyre, as you’ve just alluded your riding is far too dangerous if your scrubbing all of the tyre on normal roads.

I enjoy your vids and insight r u able to offer me some bike geometry advice I’m building a fz961 basically an fz750 with a fz/fzr/ R one ( 5vy,4xv) engine I want to put gsxr1000k3/k4 front forks in it as I got them at a good price but all the modern usd forks r very short compared to an fz or older bike should I retain the 48 mm( I think) mm offset of the yolks ( will be using 17 “ front wheel) or can I go to something a bit more modern on the yolks ( the newer bikes seem to use less offset) thanks for your help and awesome vids

I respect MN as an experienced motorcycle journalist. His response on the chicken strip question is as politically correct as his job allows but i sense a hint of hypocrisy judging by the way he rides when he is on a test ride. As per usual, riders sans CS on street riding 'wear' them with pride as they trust the modern tires which offers superb grip (on dry and safe conditions) while the 'others' will always diss the subject as a non event (but they secretly wished to the contrary) . I'd like an "off-the-record" , buddy-to-buddy answer from Mr. Neeves if the opportunity arises.

Before I rode track I cared about not having chicken strips. After riding track I understood a lot of things.
interesting to hear your thoughts on chicken strips. I don't ride with leathers or knee sliders - and only ride on the road - hence my tyres have chicken strips. No one has commented on them although I'm well aware of what they are and peoples thoughts.... funny how on bikes the community is all about pointing out your flaws and issues.... yet when I get in a car - I just drive the thing and no one gives a sh1t or judges me, TBH though I'm a grown man and have my own opinions and thoughts.... and a happy to just ride my own ride. there's nowt queer as folk as they say!
Loved your chicken strips analysis. I feel that having around 2 cm on my 190 tyres is more than enough lean on a sports tourer on the road.

To the man wanting a Ducati. Get one they are amazing and not money pits really, get a good indie to service it and save a load of money there. I was out on Saturday parked it up came back and people were taking pics of it. Bit showy but it makes you feel good. I’ve got the 1299s and it’s great , silly fast and way too much for the road but it’s a Ducati.
Don’t ride in 30 plus degrees if you plan on having kids, it boils you alive if you hit traffic 😂
I feel exactly the way about my V4S. I started looking at 1299s but the V4 came up and I've not looked back. I get exactly the same as you. So much more than just a motorbike 😍

Great to see you doing all these videos Neevesy! Love the geek out and bike chat!! I wanted to ask your thoughts please about the use of tinted visors on helmets. I saw the recent MCN weekly wind-on talking about the crack down on tinted visors by the North West police force. I always carry a tinted and clear visor with me so I can swap them out for whatever the weather/visibility conditions are. I’ve been riding motorcycles for over 25 years and have lost count on how many times I’ve been blinded by the glare of the sun. Surely it’s down to using common sense and not using the wrong visor in the wrong conditions. I don’t see how wearing a tinted visor is not ok but wearing dark sunglasses under a visor is!
its not about vision mate. its about the camera getting you're mug shot fella. look at the new average speed cameras. There are mug shot cameras on the first pole. A tinted visor makes that technology useless in court.
Loved the watch, I'm 62 and ride a TL 1000r Suzuki and I have chicken strips simply because the thought of trashing my bike would be heartbreaking. 🖖
Chicken strips only count when you have billy big balls spouting how fast they are etc and he's got 1 inch strips (or more)

I finally got the Ducati itch scratched, with an 899 Panigale last August, so glad you can recommend that!
I think that the sane ergonomics, mirrors that work and lack of cam belts take away the negatives that held me back previously.

To the guy with the confidence issue. Your friend had a heart attack... you said it yourself it was not the bike. So I think you should be more worried about your diet than afraid of your bike. Maybe give up that steak, or the fish and chips and start eating a whole food plant based diet, which is shown to promote health and prevent and even reverse heart diseases and other nasty lifestyle affections.
I had a similar experience, although I didn't know the person. It happened at a track day... someone had a heart attack and died right there, while riding his bike. He was quite a popular guy and the people who knew him were visibly shaken, but we also recognized that he died doing what he loved, instead of suffering of a long illness and dying on a hospital bed. Celebrate life, ride today, you never know what tomorrow has in store.

Anyway, cool vid.. Been riding 34 years now and have 6 classic 90’s bikes in the garage. My bikes do have chicken strips, but in my defence I have turned 51 and only ride on the road. 😇 The older I get, the faster I was! 😁🤙🏽

My girlfriend of 10 years at that time was thrilled that I couldn’t ride here. However, a couple of years ago I got my licence and love riding my Ducati Diavel 1260S, but I am lucky my girlfriend hasn’t ditched me. Have all those around you always supported your riding or have you experienced the naysayers that think motorbikes are a death trap? Hi nevesy, Glad to here you still love the 750, iv a l6 750 that I was planing on changing for a 1000 of some description next year. However because I love the bike I'm no building it up into my ultimate version. Folks are currenty at k-teck having dds internals an a dds rear shock. Dymag up7x wheels, tube subframe, crc boddy work. to add to whats already done. After listing to what you have to say about the 750 I'm sure iv made the right dessusion an she makes my ultimate track bike. Top work as always an thank you. 👍

Great vids Michael. Saw recently you wrote about helmet noise and your hearing. Are the sports touring helmets much quieter than things like rx7v? Love my race lids but if there are quieter options would consider them. Many thanks.
I’d never judge a rider for chicken strips, I ride pretty fast when it’s reasonable to and I still have 1/4-1/2inch left no matter what on the street. It was pretty fun though pulling up to a bike night a few weeks ago and hearing all the younger fellas go “damn look at his back tire” most of the street riders I meet all have at least a hands worth on each side or more. If that’s the case, i suspect you can’t properly steer the bike and probably roll through turns so slow you need to clutch it. Not trying to be mean but if that’s you, you need to practice more

Was not sure how to send a thought i had but will just use the comments section here to express my way of thinking about Top Rak going to BMW - I was thinking that his move might have another motive. What if this is in preparation for BMW to enter Moto GP and has signed Top Rak with the promise of a Moto GP ride if it all works out. Just a thought but stranger this has happened.

Chicken strips are especially stupid when you realise you can wear them off doing car park maneuvers.
One TH-cam channel pointed out that it was even dumber than people realised by the fact on his bike you can literally drop the bike and have it spin round on its crash protectors beyond where a human can lean, and still have chicken strips!
I mean if you've got no chicken strips where I live, it's only a question of time before you get killed by a tractor, a deer, cyclists etc etc..far too dangerous to wack into corners like that

I’m surprised at your ignorance. The angles required to remove a rear chicken strip is far from maximum bank angle.
The difference between front and rear is also more to do with carcass construction as the rear need to deform more and the front needs more rigidity.
I love my chicken strips and I still got my head if other bikers laughing then tell them ile still be riding my bike when your pushing up the daisy's

hi mate, I actually had a workmate make the dumb comment about having chicken strips on my tyre and then he bragged about how he never had them on his tires. Anyways he then said I must ride really slow and then asked me how fast I ride when I told him I sit around 80 mph and what my corner exit speeds were his bottom lip almost touched the ground. I don't ride at 80 mph normally 70 mph, but I was straight up about my corner exit speed. I have a ZX14.

I've been riding motorcycles for the most of the last 20 years, been using clutchless upshift without issue for as long as i can remember, would say i got pretty good at it😅
I've recently tried a friend's SuperdukeR with both quick upshift and downshift(auto blipper)
I don't feel much difference with the upshifting speed,
First question, is it possible that manual clutchless upshift to be as fast as a quickshifter?
Second question, is is possible to perform clutchless downshift without damaging the gearbox/clutch?

I am a young rider (been riding for about 5 years)wanting to get into track riding. I only have adv tourer bikes (nc700x and Versys 1000) and suffer from a hernia. Is there a bike you could recommend for track riding that would be more comfortable than a full on sports bike? I am now considering a bmw f800st. But i don't see a lot of alternatives except a ninja 650 that have a pretty comfortable yet slightly forward riding position.
I've been riding since the late 70's and owned and ridden a sh** load of bikes, probably not as many as you Neevesy I suspect, but my all time favourite GSX-R750 has to be the 2000Y model, just because it was a huge step on from the previous SRAD, much lighter better suspension, more power, in fact I remember a year 2000 PB group test when that bike was faster round the same track than an SP1, which was a hand built HRC legend...
I loved mine and on track settings and decent sticky Pirelli's it was as quick and sometimes faster, down the twisties than my mates much newer K8 750, I'd have another in a heart beat, as a road or track bike, even though they are getting on now, they are still for me the pinnacle of GSX-R750's, but now at 60-odd years of age, and not having a safe or decent place to keep a bike, I've sadly decided to stop riding, something I never thought would happen...but I had my GSX-R1000 stolen in 2017 when I was living abroad from an allegedly secure place, which made me question do I still want to have a bike... I tried to get back into bikes when I came back to UK, but something just didn't fit right so after a year of owning a year 2000 Blade I sold it and am now bikeless.... 😟
Neevesy, not sure where to send the questions in that you answer on here but I've got one for you.....can you recommend a good emergency toolkit for roadside breakdowns? I have an MV Superveloce and it only has enough space for a big-wallet. Dont really want to ride with a tank-bag as it would spoil the look of the bike. Maybe a rucksack would be a good idea, water, phone, toolkit and sandwiches. Keep up the vids theyre fantastic, cheers.
I bumped into a bunch of riders taking some training, they all were on 1000cc + bikes and were nearly all new riders. Almost all of them had huge chicken strips, like the bike probably lent further on the side stand, I honestly wondered what the hell they were doing on bikes let along such powerful machines. I had a chat about riding and they all admited to be new riders and found cornering difficult, hence the training. The instructor with them didn't like it when I suggested they would be better off reading Twist of the wrist and learning better machine control and cornering techniques. One of the lads said that by having big chicken strips it gave him a wider margin for error, I dissagreed, said if he ever hit a corner faster than he was comfortable with, he wouldn't lean the bike further, he would run wide as his strips showed his maximum lean angle, and would be no different to me hitting the same corner to fast for me. Everybody's 10/10ths is different, I don't think it makes you more or less safe, providing you stay within your capabilities
Loving these thanks for asking videos. You always talk pasionatly about the GSXR 750 and the 1000 but what about the 600. I owned 3 of these. A SRAD, a K1 and a K5 and loved them. Also one thing I really love about your bike reviews is you always mention when they have noisy screens and hardly any other reviewer does. Like you I suffer badly on bikes with noisy screens. I had a Versys 1000 and had to sell it because of the screen noise. The touring screen on my Ninja 1000sx is unusable because of this and last year I didn't buy a Tigersport 660 because of the noisy screen. What are your thoughts on this and why it seems to affect some riders and not others? Btw im only 5 foot 9 so it cant be just a height thing?
I had a 1988 slingshot in 1989 (blue and white). I loved that bike and still dream its in the garage. I sold it after 2 years as moved to Hong kong. Never had another bike for over 30 years (im 56 now) and recently bought a new Pani v4s
Neevesy! When I started riding (almost 20 years ago) it was almost assumed everyone should start on a 125 or 250 and you'd be crazy to start on a 600. These days bikes like an RS 660 are often recommended as a 'beginner' bike, is it just safer to start on bigger bikes now due to ABS/new tech and generally bikes getting better or is it more of an industry driven push to sell more expensive bikes? Is it that a 250 used to be a 19k revving screamer (mc22 cbr250rr) and now everything is slightly more docile? Thoughts?

Interesting comments about middleweight bikes. Just considering one myself to ride around the Almeria roads, where you do quite a few launches, rather than my Fireblade. As you know these roads I was wondering which you would choose. I’m looking at new so I can keep it over there without the hassle of an mot for 3 years. Considering a gas gas/husqvarna/ktm supermoto or the Aprilia 660 Tuono factory. Do like the Fantic Caballero 500 that I know you like but not sure if it would be a bit underpowered for the mountain roads. Might have been ok with the 700 but it doesn’t seem to be coming and seems over priced now given they had originally said it was going to be £1k less (and here by Spring 23)

Ad Chicken strips: Just got my first street bike about 2 months ago the GSX-S 750 and was "worried" about the chicken strips. Now I am 7 000km in, already on second rear tire and no chicken strips. And no I dont ride with straight elbows. And yes there are very few corners on the roads where you can see all the way through and fully commit and lean in...
Chicken strips are preferable to a scuffed 'bike. Ride often, thinking ahead & speed inexorably becomes a comfortable companion. Lovely content, thanks, MN.

Great Vid! Really interesting to hear you talk about adapted riding styles due to injury. I had a knee replacement aged 23 before my journey with bikes had really began. Determined not to let my injury dictate my passion for sports bikes I bought a Panigale V4 to use on track. A few adaptations and its going really well. I do struggle with my right toe dragging on the floor through corners. Any more info/tips on your adapted riding style would be greatly appreciated. 👍🏼
How about trail breaking through corners? This seems to be a new fad ppl are advocating. I understand it’s a track technique but on the road?

@@morri03 It's being promoted to new riders, which i hadn't seen before. Mind you, I had confused 'backing it in' with 'trail braking'.... neither of which i'd recommend to new riders. Yeah, I've also been 'trail braking' for over 40 years but never realised it was a term.
Love the Nori Haga helmet on the shelf. I had one but had to replace after it checked the tarmac out at Cadwell. Probably no chicken strips😂😂

Lots of road warriors out there clowning on chicken strips having never understood just how much bad body position affects lean angle relative to speed in the corner. Everyone is so excited to touch a knee on the street meanwhile they're holding you up and your knee is a foot off the ground.
Thanks for another great video. I must say I've never cared about chicken strips. I'm rubbish on the road going around corners so that is probably a good thing! lol Because mine must be massive. Anyway, very true about suggesting a smaller bike to get his confidence up. My 1st bike was and still is a 1200gs. But I will never forget when I rode an 899, not only was it amazing but it was lie my confidence increased a 1000% going into a corner...So even though I'm rubbish that did help. I want to get a 2nd bike once my finances allows it again and not sure when that will ever be..But fancy a V2 today..Should be the same as the 899 but more refined and easier to ride as slow speed I believe. Or perhaps the new naked Sukuzi. Will be much cheaper. Probably more fun top. Anway. Love your videos and these talks. Best there is on the Internet.
wrt Triumph, the 1200 feels like the better quality bike, however the 765 now has a better tft ui (but still not what it should be)
