    To listen to your insight about the places where a 1000cc sportsbike takes your head to is a revelation, I thought it was just me who found them super challenging to the point where the concentration levels occupied all of my processing power for me to ride fast by my standards. I would urge any rider of any bike to visit the Isle Of Man outside of race festivals. I like it better than the Nordschliefe, it's free and only a few hours from Glasgow. The Mountain section can be a beautiful cruise or a place to...ahh, just go and feel it, I've never felt so alive. Remember this is the only place you can pass police cars at 130+. Been riding for 45years and 64 this year 🤣🐢🤔

    Spot on with tyres. That gets my vote. I was riding the last two years on BT023s on my Honda CBF1000. Just had Bridgestone T32s fitted. Absolute world of difference. I really thought the 23s were good. It's just truly amazing to me how much better the newer tyres are.

    Great video Michael. Regarding returning to Oz for some classic racing have a look at the Festival of Speed (FoS) held annually around Feb/March in Sydney at the Sydney Motorsport Park previously known as Eastern Creek Raceway. It’s not as picturesque and flowing as Phillip Island but still a great track. The event is very similar in nature to the International Classic. Hope to see you there one day.

    G'day Michael, thanks for another enjoyable fireside chat. Living in rural Australia, I've been riding a Tenere 700 for the past three years; an excellent all-rounder on the potholed roads and gravel tracks endemic to this area. However, it does carry its weight high and, at 175 cm, 65 kg, and 76 years, I was increasingly struggling with that weight when pushing it around the garage or the seat height of 880 mm when 😊stopping on loose gravel parking areas. So, today, I signed up to trade for an XL750 Transalp, in the hope that the lower slung weight and 850 mm seat height (with 830 option) will render it more manageable than the Yamaha. Your stellar review of the Honda was a major contributor to my decision. No pressure on you then! 🙂😮🙂

    Can you do a video explaining suspension to us Neanderthals - what it all means, how it works and what "a few clicks" etc actually does to the suspension and the handling?

  • @michelboots7133
    @michelboots7133 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Yes, ergonomics! first thing i do when i get a new bike is sort the riding position and suspension. as i mentioned earlier, I have put on some aftermarked clip-ons on my 2004 R1 and rode it to the south of Italy a couple of weeks back, no problem doing 4600 km in ten day's. now I have bought a black 2007 r1 and will put all the ergonomic changes I made with the 2004 on it. I have to, cause I'm 6"2 and 63 years old and every ride is still fun this way instead of painfull to all my joints. Love these serie's! keep them coming!

      @@yamz342 for suspension, setting the preload, sag and damping to my weight and riding style, the position of the brake and clutch lever mostly tilted forward so it is more in a straight line with my forearm , shift lever in a position that it is in an easy over/ under my foot position. And now i have some adjustable rearsets as well. quick shifter from translogic, and hopefully soon a blipper as well. adjustable clip-ons from ABM.

    • @michelboots7133
      @michelboots7133 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jimmansi9046 I installed the ABM clip-ons, wich make a huge difference, a bit more expensive but well worth it, they look very good, and you can adjust them in many ways, they give you a more upright riding position, much more comfortable, and more leverage depending on how wide you set them. all in all, you still have the powerfull sportsbike, but with long distance touring capability. I love it.

    Hey Neevesy! A few years ago I rediscovered the sport of track riding after a bit of time on the ADV and cruiser side. I am looking at options to buy, and the main alternative I have in mind is the Yamaha R7. The thought process is down in power and keep the cornering speeds up, that way I don't have as much power to make up time on the straights. What are your thoughts on getting a smaller bike on the track to learn how to corner properly? Currently on an R6 I am just out of C group, slow-B-group on a good day. And the temptation of getting another 600 or even a 1000cc is big when looking at price and the monkey brain comes in the way

    I like your videos, appreciate that you are one of the last real motorcycle journalists out there and that you are willing to share some of your experience with the rest of us. I follow several known TH-cam reviewers in as many languages as I can understand and I have noticed that although they mostly share (or copy) the same opinions they do tend to favor the motorcycles produced in their countries. I have yet to figure out if it's on purpose or just a subconscious habit :)
    One bike that most seem to agree on is the Moto Guzzi V100 Mandello. I bought the S model and so far, besides everything that has been said online about it, the only thing that I can add is that It's one of the few bikes that make me giggle inside my helmet every time I take it for a ride and that is what motorcycling should be about. Wouldn't you agree?

    I feel like you missed the Honda CBR650R on the comfy sportsbike topic, I wouldn't consider that a full on sports-tourer yet (what about the Ninja 650 though?). If Honda would make one of those with a bigger engine, and drop an 'R' or two from the name, you're basically there. And drop some HP's from the top in exchange for some more torque in the midrange like they did with the 650. Personally I think the 650 is plenty powerful, a sportsbike shouldn't need to be a 1000 to be considered sporty.

    Hi Michael, love the channel my question for you is how do you stop yourself getting too attached to your motorcycles. I'm at the point now where I know I should make room for new things but struggling to say goodbye to my current line up. I should point out one was my first big bike I've kept for years (nc30). Another was one that I always wanted and one was a family hand me down. I know this won't seem too bad for some (first world problems right) but should I stop being sentimental sell up and move on ? Or keep adding to the list and hope the Mrs doesn't notice? Keep up the great work ✌️

It will be some time till i can get back on track, but i'm just wondering if its worth it to invest into a bike with has traction control (for track bike) ? Does it help to prevent highsides? Maybe i'm just a little bit stressed after the crash but i would like to prevent highsides in the future, maybe you have some advice to give (as i think i was sitting way back in the seat then coming out of corner hard on the gas instead of standing on pegs weighting the front) ? How important to you is the sound of an ICE motorcycle? Am I becoming a motorcycle dinosaur??

Can you shed any light on a comfy ish pillion sport bike. Will consider a smaller bike aswell as 1000s. I’m not sure if the ZZR1400 or hayabusa are a bit too big and clumsy.

    Racing has shown the advantages of the smaller riders, Max on the Aprilia RSV-4, Alvaro on the Panagale V4 then the Japanese are both manufacturers and smaller people. So taller and heavier people are not a racing advantage, sorry Scott, and that's where sports bike research and development goes on. Of course it is in the manufacturers interest to serve the most customers as volume of sales justifies the r&d so good design would support the flexibility to work well across different sizes. Getting help from dealers to setup a bike to suit each customer should be standard but likely isn't. So not surprisingly sales are down if out of the crate is all that a customer can expect..

    When the R6 was first rumored to be killed off the initial explanation that went around about that and the general halt in development in that class was that politicians killed it off with their crazy emissions expectations. Who's going to spend millions developing a new engine when the politicians make each new design obsolete in one or two years. Somehow, new, slightly bigger twins would weather the insanity better.
    Then everybody changed to sales figures as the reason, like word went out from a central authority to cut the shit and stop making people look bad.
    It could be said sales dropped because there was no development. Because of politicians.

That type of "confortable" ergonomics compromises dangerously the behavior of the bike going fast and removes all the pleasure of doing so.. If someone wants a real Superbike, just train and eat accordingly to be worthy to ride it and be capable of extracting all the pleasure and fun! Don't ruin the Superbike by changing the ergonomics to fit the fat and heavy people! Those people should buy another type of motorcycles... Sorry for being so direct.
