So good! I’ve been avoiding gluten for 4 years now as I thought it was the reason for my gut issues, but lately I’ve been eating gluten now and then and I can’t find an actual link between my gut issues and my gluten intake...

My digestion does best when I avoid grains in the form of bread and pasta in particular. I don’t know if it’s gluten or not that bothers me. I do know I don’t have a problem with many other high FODMAP foods. And I don’t have any other celiac symptoms.

Meghan, this video is so so informative! Thanks so much! 💜🙏🏻 A few years ago, a doctor told me that being sensitive to gluten can be linked to monthly menstrual cycle cramps! I didn’t even believe it, but after doing a quick research, I realized that the pain can exacerbate by gluten and avoiding it has helped me stay away from cramps on those days! Maybe someone else can benefit from this lil’ tip!

It breaks my heart that I can not have gluten. I blame it on our over processed grains. I heard from people that live in the far east they can eat wheat when they are home but when they come to North America they have issues with gluten. I lived 53 years eating wheat and now it will make me deathly sick. Maybe I always had issues but I was just young and strong I don’t know. I just knew I increasingly had ibs as the later years went on. 😩 I have to relearn a lot of recipes and it’s not the same but the pain isn’t worth it. Thank you

I discovered that I don’t have a problem with gluten. I thought I did because I went through a time where I was bloating up to the point of misery almost every day. I did find a nutritionist who put me on a diet for a week to “reset” my system. I haven’t had a bloating experience since. That was several years ago. A co-worker has the same symptoms and still does because she insists that she has celiac disease and refuses to try anything different and we have to listen to her crying all day about her stomach.

I am not allergic to gluten but I am sensitive because it contains folic acid (I have a genetic mutation called MTHFR where it causes me to not be able to process man-made vitamin B). 30% of the population has this mutation. So, if you have been tested for a gluten allergy and your results haven't matched with your symptoms, maybe its worth considering that you have this genetic mutation. Finding this out saved me from being tired every day of my life. I could literally sit down and fall asleep in a snap😂 Seriously, if you are sensitive, this mutation could be a reason why

Hey Kaylee - I wonder if the gut issues you're having with raw fruit is related to FODMAP content (highly fermentable sugars) such as those found in apples, stone fruits, blackberries, avocado, cherries, mango, etc. Depends on the kind of fruit you're not digesting well!

Hi there, i'm not Meghan, but I know here in the UK we can purchase gluten free oats in the supermarkets and they're made from rice? I have previously been gluten-free to help with a digestive disease, and I found them a little weird-looking (they're almost see-through!) but they were quite tasty. I have been eating gluten a long time now but I am currently being investigated for potential rheumatoid arthritis, so it looks like I might be going back down that road 😘

Hi Liliana! Oats are naturally gluten-free, however many are cross-contaminated with wheat which is why you want to look for certified gluten-free oats (there’s usually some kind of stamp or label on a package) or packages that have been approved by Celiac Foundations, etc. I hope that helps!

Hi Liliana! My sister has quite severe coeliac disease, and has been involved in a few study trials so our family has learnt quite a lot about gluten & GF eating. Here in Australia the peak coeliac body and all the doctors my sister has seen have confirmed that no oats sold in Australia are certified gluten free - meaning anyone with coeliac shouldn’t eat oats or any product with traces of oats. As far as I’m aware certified gluten free oats are available in the US. Not really sure on the reason behind this (might be something to do with farming/production/packaging in different countries or could be the amount of parts per million the local medical board considers safe for coeliacs?) but it’s definitely location specific. Hope that helps!

I was asking myself the same question. I do not think I do have a specific type of wheat allergies or so but I have gallbladder stones. I know it might have nothing to do with wheat consumption in as much as fatty food but I started to minimize gluten in my diet. Sometimes, I feel like what if I am depriving my body from something it used to consume and can be beneficial in a way or another given that tried so other alternative to bread and they are not tasty. Here again comes the link between my mood and diet .. what do you think? Is it really possible that there are benefits for some people?
