- Shelby GT350 Anodized Brembo Caliper Cleaning and Detail Regimen. Guys I cannot stress this enough for anyone who owns a car with anodized Brembo brake calipers. I started using this process over 8 years ago on my 5Th Gen Camaro and that is when we started seeing auto manufactures creep us using this process. This anodize finish is offered by Ford, GM, Fiat Chrysler, Maserati and many more automotive manufactures. As aggravating as this is, many owners are destroying their calipers because of using the wrong harsh cleaners and going to the wrong detail shops. I have never seen any video or DIY for this and all you read are complaints all over the web about this issue but all it takes are a few simple steps to clean and some common sense to avoid the products I outline in the intro of the video. I hope this video helps some out there and if you already have trashed calipers just experiment to see if you can bring them back to life using a thicker mix of the paste I talk about.
I have been working with anodize finishes for over 20 years. There are several types of anodize finishes listed below but all work in the same manner of etching into the aluminum surface.
TYPE I Chromic acid anodizing
TYPE II Sulfuric acid anodizing, conventional coatings produced from sulfuric acid bath
TYPE III Hard Anodic Coatings
CLASS I Non-Dyed
CLASS II Dye

Makes complete sense as that's how i clean my Calphalon anodized cookware - baking soda & dish soap. The sticky cleaner would be perfect for brake calipers. Thanks.
Glad you have this video. Now i will try to take good care of my wheels better. my question is that i have gotten myself a set of brakes with anodised finishing and some of the bolt surface have some rust.
what do you think i could do about it without damaging the caliper itself?

Great video extremely insightful! I just wish you had turn that front left wheel all the way to the right exposing much more the caliber. It’s pretty crazy these days by comparison to years past. Back in the 60s and 70s cars had steel wheels with hubcaps. You’re lucky even if you got this brakes with a single piston never mind six.

Yeah I actually ruin mine too.. by working at an auto dealership having it regularly detailed and they use that acid bullcrap too!

How do you polish up the "hat"?
if you want to go nuts on this you can use the Gliptone Polishes i mention in my wash video, pick up the 3 levels they offer and see which works best for yours, on my car the medium and coarse works best. A paste polish doesn't seem to work as good on these parts.

thanks for watching, Sonax is ok, just work fast like I show in the 30min video, and never let it dry. good luck hope this helps, the issue with these calipers getting stained is from bad wheel cleaners and the stupid tire foam products. Also having brake dust bake into the finish from neglect also causes a major issue. My philosophy is maintain the car well from the start so it never gets that way.

no painted calipers are always painted single stage so you must treat them as you would a single stage car paint

Other than your solution you just used what wheel cleaners do you recommend I clean my wheels when ever I get to where I'm going due to the brake dust?

Quick question can you do this with your wheels on. Without damaging the finish of the painted alloy wheels that comes on my car. I have a 2021 dodge charger scat pack that came with anodize finished break calipers.And I don't have the ability to take the wheels off to get full access to the calipers.
if you have the 5 spoke wheels you sure can carefully if you jack the car up and rotate the wheel for access. Also consider visiting my website and ordering the Auto Fanatic wheel cleaner system because it was specifically designed for issues like on your car. When I ruined my Brembo calipers on my 2014 GT i dove into developing a safer solution and have succeeded

Do u think I can use the Diablo one instead of citrus cleaner?
Debbie Lee diablo isnt strong enough for this mix and process, this works great for many who tried it, i am custom painting an extra set of calipers in the coming weeks for my own car and will be spraying matte 2k clear on another set for a customer which will easily be a good solution if you like the gray finish.
Do you know a good product to protect the disc from rust?
i do have a product which works but not on brake rotors due to the extreme heat, its cast there isn't much you can do even aftermarket rotors that are zinc, cad or e coated rust its just something we all need to accept unless we buy cars with carbon ceramic brakes.
Gustavo Aviles Hyde's rust stopper work good on rotors. I use on my gt350

I hate this finish on my calipers it's a pain. Been thinking of painting them with self leveling caliper paint. My question is will it bond well with the anodized finish.
the prep to paint over the anodize is critical and requires a proper 2k etch primer.

Lee Milanes thanks for watching, i do not offer this service these days unless its a crazy special project where a customer will pay me $$$$$ to detail. i primarily do my own cars and very select customer cars.
You should make a wheel cleaning product and sell that, I would buy
considering a private label line but not sure yet as i have 3 other businesses that take up all my time these days, we shall see if i get some help on this i will launch something.

No, the answer is heat-retention. And thats why Brembo warns against painting/powdercoating their calipers.
how can you tell if the calipers are anodized or painted/powder coated?
