As a security specialist my first assignment was kadena Air Base in Okinawa Japan. Loved it there. I was an entry controller of an alert area and a huge Inspection Team came to our base and any security Specialists knows you have to give briefings about your post. During a huge inspection on base a colonel drove through my alert area so I asked him if he wanted a briefing and he replied yes so I commence with my briefing but it got halted find airplane taking off. When you can hear again the colonel said well that's good Airman thank you and I replied but sir I'm not done yet. What's in 30 minutes I was relieved essentra controller and driven to the Security Police Squadron where I got to meet the commanding officer, senior master sergeant and others. After that I always drove the flight line subsequently leaving me to find a Napalm bomb leaking. From there my career took off. My advice is to not sell yourself short for it obviously doesn't take much to impress a colonel that could change your whole career. Always vigilant

All very good points relating to Security Forces. I really related to the comment about "having your back." Security forces is like a band of brothers and sisters and they always look out for each other.

I can't speak for how life is for the MA's at other bases but I know for a fact that they do not like it here at Offutt lol if you have any other questions don't hesitate to ask.

I am a Former Security Policeman 6 years Active/9 years Air National Guard and I can tell you I wouldn't trade my time in the USAF Security Police for anything ...I loved it! It is what you make it. I was stationed at Dyess AFB for 3 years in the Strategic Air Command..we had a squadron of B52D's..4 Nuclear uploaded on alert at all times. We also had 3 squadron's of C-130's. I did Fly Away Security. We trained 4 times a year in Air Base Ground Defense at Ft. Hood Army Base against the US Army 7th Calvary Scouts. I was on one of the first EST's..Emergency Service Team's (SWAT) in the Air Force. I got to attend the FBI SWAT School and we got to put on EST training demonstrations along with the Combat Control Team across the street from Security Control. (We loaded on 2 C 130's with a Combat Control Team climbed to 20,000 ft., the CCT did a halo jump. After deploying the CCT the 130's spiraled down and did an Assault landing on a dirt strip. We deployed in our Armored vehicles out the back of the C130's and took the objective, reloaded with the nuclear weapon we recovered from the “Terrorists” and did a Assault takeoff)!!
I was stationed for 1 year in Turkey at a secret MUNSS site. I was the NCOIC of Arms and Equipment for the Security detachment and also the Team Leader for the RRT ( Recapture and Recovery Team) a joint Turkish - American Anti-terrorist Team. When I rotated back to the World, I was assigned for 2 years at Langley AFB, VA to Headquarters Tactical Air Command. The unit I was in is the Tactical Air Command Guard...we were the Security for the CINCTAC (Commander and Chief Tactical Air Command..4 Star General). During my time in the Alabama Air National Guard I got to go to "Sliver Flag Alpha" in Indian Springs, NV, the USAF SP Desert Warfare and Survival School. It is what you make it, I did a lot of different things in the Security Police Field....AND LOVED EVERY MINUTE... except for the time I spent in a Turkish Military Prison..but that is another story!
I got out of the Air Force and became a State Trooper. Most of my 25 years was spent on TACT Team 1 and TACT Team 2 (Tactical Anti-terrorist Counter-assault Team) SWAT. I was a State SWAT Member, Instructor, Sniper, Sniper Instructor, Tactical Rappel Master/Instructor, Man Tracker/Instructor. Now I am retired and work part time for a Large Entertainment Venue doing undercover security. I also work for our State's Police Officers Standards and Training as a SWAT and Sniper Instructor.

Kathiana, Congratulations and welcome to the team! Here are some things to help you before and during Basic Military Training (BMT).
      - Know your reporting statement (at the very minimum)
      - Teamwork is essential
      - Know your chain of command
      - Know the Airmen’s Creed
      - Know the Air Force Song
      - Know Air Force ranks (both enlisted & officers)
      - Know Air Force Core values
      - Recommend being at or close to the BMT PT graduation level before you go to BMT (always check with your doctor before exercising). Everything else will come with time. If you do not know any of the above please contact your recruiter for this information. Good luck future Airman!

generally, when you are a brand new 2nd LT, you are the flight commander but you're also learning from the flight chief (MSgt) until you rank up to 1st LT. once you sew on 1st LT, you're generally behind a desk. unfortunate as it may sound, that is your job as an officer. that is what you have enlisted for. at least that is how it is at my base.

Zecco, Recommend that you sit down with an Air Force recruiter and a recruiter from the branch of the US Armed Forces you are interested in. Have a list of questions, and your goals and dreams written down so you can effectively interview. Don't allow them to slam the other branches, ask them only to focus on what their branch has to offer Pros, and cons. Take good notes, and gather as many materials about each one as possible. After you have interviewed with each one, sit down and make up two Pro/con lists for each branch. Rationality would show the one with the most pros is the winner. Once the decision is made, do not look back, do not second guess. We hope to see you in the US Air Force.
