    On the topic of „cultural appropriation“: In my opinion, when you - as you recommended - find someone with knowledge of and respect for something, it is not cultural appropriation, it’s cultural appreciation. Sadly there are many who don’t get that. And as someone who tries to look for cultural appreciation wherever I go (music-blends, traditions, …) I am really happy to see you putting such an emphasis on it as well!

    • @Zombosis
      @Zombosis ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For an entirely over-vocal minority, "cultural appropriation" has become a new way to package straight racism. "You're not allowed to do X because you're not X" and just swap out colours as is convenient. More ways to silence and suppress, not engage, educate, and understand.

I still haven't been able to afford any equipment yet as I stated above I'm still unemployed but it's by choice to finish this program and push myself hard during this time. Interesting on tribals. The first tribal I ever saw was in 1989 on Max Cavalera of Sepultura. Before that, I didn’t see them anywhere. Started seeing tribal tattoos a lot in the mid 1990s. • @Zombosis
      @Zombosis 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not so much "no love for" as it is A: I kinda forgot about it while compiling this list, because B: while Kalinga stuff is rad, it's very, VERY rare. I would argue that it's the least practiced/least requested tribal style. Truthfully as well, that's a very deep rabbit hole to fall into-- the point of the guide wasn't to chronicle every individual culturally codified tribal tattoo style, it was to provide an overview of the main tattoo styles for clients unfamiliar with the industry. An episode on every indiginous tribal style would be really killer, but also one I don't genuinely feel I'm qualified to create. There's many, many nuanced styles of cultures all over the world that I have little to no knowledge of, and it's not a subject I would want to disrespect with incomplete knowledge.

    • @giantcubs167
      @giantcubs167 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Zombosis I respect your point about the niche style. Just thought the historical vantage point of being known as the painted one was cool for the history of tattoos but I realize that each video that’s posted has a certain theme and focus. Mad respect for you saying that you may not be qualified to make a video on indigenous styles but I love the flow of how your videos are executed and editing is amazing. I don’t think you’d explore anything half assed and look forward to watching more of your content.
