Mark Lowry was a college student at Liberty Baptist College back in 1978 when I was there. Mark was seriously injured when their van hit a viaduct. Charles Hughes was also injured in this accident. Mark wrote a song called, "There Is Hope". Mark spent a long time in a body cast. Mark can sing wonderfully and is a great comedian. Mark wrote this song with Buddy Greene writing the music. He gave Jerry Falwell fits with his college antics. He was part if the reason the rules of the college were stricter. It was some of the highlights knowing Mark Liwry and Guy Penrod in my college days.

Dennis, my introduction to this song and subsequent versions happened in rapid recession. My brother inlaw sent me a recording of the song recorded by Kathie Mattea. She did a great job singing it in the spirit. At that time I didn't know Mark Lowry was the author. One day later, I was shopping at Walmart and was looking through a selection of CD's and came across one called "REMOTELY CONTROLLED" by Mark Lowry and several other artists. Having watched several of the Gaither Homecoming Performances, I knew that Mark was a talented singer and a Christian Comedian. Then I noticed that the last song on the CD was "MARY DID YOU KNOW". The whole CD was funny and entertaining, but near the end Mark was telling a story of what he though it might have been like for Mary to be chosen to give birth to Jesus. He then went on to say that he had written the song, lol, he explained that he couldn't read music, so he didn't actually write the music. His friend Buddy Greene, a very talented artist himself, helped him write the music. He then said that several people had recorded the song, but this was his first time performing it and recording it himself. I believe it was recorded solo on the CD, and WOW, you knew that this came from his heart and soul. It moved me to tears of joy. I heard Mark sing it with Buddy Greene, with Guy Penrod and David Phelps several times and a host of other artists perform it since. I have to say that that first recording he did was my absolute favorite.

Oh boy, you’re in for a REAL treat if you look up Mark Lowry and his performances! He’s a story teller, not just in singing but with comedy and drama and testimony. He’s fantastic, you should really look up more of his stuff, also, this isn’t even the most ‘powerful’ version that they’ve done on stage together… enjoy finding it! Dennis, my introduction to this song and subsequent versions happened in rapid recession.
My brother inlaw sent me a recording of the song recorded by Kathie Mattea. She did a great job singing it in the spirit. At that time I didn't know Mark Lowry was the author.
One day later, I was shopping at Walmart and was looking through a selection of CD's and came across one called "REMOTELY CONTROLLED" by Mark Lowry and several other artists. Having watched several of the Gaither Homecoming Performances, I knew that Mark was a talented singer and a Christian Comedian.
Then I noticed that the last song on the CD was "MARY DID YOU KNOW". The whole CD was funny and entertaining, but near the end Mark was telling a story of what he though it might have been like for Mary to be chosen to give birth to Jesus. He then went on to say that he had written the song, lol, he explained that he couldn't read music, so he didn't actually write the music. His friend Buddy Greene, a very talented artist himself, helped him write the music. He then said that several people had recorded the song, but this was his first time performing it and recording it himself. I believe it was recorded solo on the CD, and WOW, you knew that this came from his heart and soul. It moved me to tears of joy.
I heard Mark sing it with Buddy Greene, with Guy Penrod and David Phelps several times and a host of other artists perform it since. I have to say that that first recording he did was my absolute favorite.
Would you PLEASE show the music video of Sandy Parker singing “A Baby Changes Everything”. The Lord truly blesses her with a beautiful voice. IF you do choose to show her video, it’s the one of her standing in front of the microphone and is 5:08 minutes long and the song is exactly WHO Christmas is about. Her voice and heart are clearly for AND to The Lord and you will be amazed. PLEASE Dennis, show her video. Merry Christmas everyone!!!
Oh boy, you’re in for a REAL treat if you look up Mark Lowry and his performances! He’s a story teller, not just in singing but with comedy and drama and testimony. He’s fantastic, you should really look up more of his stuff, also, this isn’t even the most ‘powerful’ version that they’ve done on stage together… enjoy finding it! As for Christmas songs, not sure if there are any mv’s for them, but Relient K’ album ‘Let it snow baby, let it reindeer’ is awesome from start to finish, especially ‘I Celebrate the Day’. ❤
The pianist is the incomparable Gordon Mote. Blind from birth, he surprised his parents, when at only 3 yrs of age he began playing piano. One of the most sought after talents today, he has performed with some of the most renowned Christian and Country artist. He is also known for his songwriting, producing and singing talents.
Mark Lowry. lead singer on this, was the author of this song and had been with the Gaither Vocal Band for years until he retired. He now does occasional concerts and he has podcasts of singing, etc. BTW, the pianist--Gordon Mote, is blind...has been blind since birth.

Lead was sung by Mark Lowry, who also wrote the song! That's why he knows how to phrase it. You wouldn't think this, but he's also a hilarious comedian within Christian circles. He and David Phelps and Guy Penrod (guy with the long hair) were part of the Gaither Vocal Band for many years, so they are used to singing together.

I love this song (tears flowing)! Mark has a beautiful voice and can bring the goosebumps. On a different note, he has done goofy stuff while singing with the GVB. For example, watch them sing "Jesus On The Mainline", and you'll know what i mean. Guy and David try hard not to laugh. 😂
