- G'day guys, today we are reacting to Mark Lowry, David Phelps and Guy Penrod singing Mary Did You Know. As we know Mark wrote this song and always sings it with such passion. This version was like him having a conversation with someone and it gave me goosebumps.

When he sings with the group he spent years touring with, a group that are all fully committed Christians and excellent singers, the result with this song is always spectacular.

These three plus Bill Gaither, is my favorite rendition of the Gaither Vocal Band. There have been many combinations over the years, and I enjoy each one, but to me, this is the best. Guy and David are an amazing combination. These three voices, as you said, can harmonize very well together. This dvd, I believe, released back in 2008. Thanks for the reaction.

Mark was given those words from God. Mark wrote it and a friend of his wrote the the music. Can tell he sang it from his heart. THIS IS THE ORGINAL VERSION! PTL!
Mark sings this song better than anyone. We've seen these 3 sing this song live many times, also David sings this song solo, always fabulous. Guy Penrod sings "Then Came The Morning", fabulous version by him.

I’ve watched that a million times and it brings tears every time!!!
Thank you for giving Mark the credit he well deserves. He's always so supportive when the others would get the cheers and standing ovations even after he had just sung his heart out. "House of Gold" from the "Harmony in the Heartland" CD would be a good one of his to review. It's fun and he sounds great. DP and GP and Michael English are his "backup" singers.
10:37 PM CST 2/20/23 Shreveport, LA. I have listened to the Gaithers and all of their talented singers for over 25 years. I was so blessed to see them in concert three times. I am 65 years young. When it comes to southern gospel, Christian contemporary, Praise & Worship, and even singing out of “The Baptist Hymnal”, I love music! We, as Christians, have to share the unconditional love of Jesus Christ and share Christian music with the world! I just discovered your program a week ago and I thank God for you! God bless you!
The Gaither Vocal Band with its various members over the years has always been good, and still is today. As you said, having "backup" vocalists of the calibre of David and Guy for this was amazing, but then they have always worked as a group. Wes Hampton has been a tenor with the group for a long time now, and has some especially touching solos. Thanks for continuing with reacting to David and Mark, they deserve a place in the reaction community for their consistently high musical standards, as well the message they are committed to communicating. Bill Gaither himself has had a remarkable life in Christian music.

What's just as impressive that not to many ppl notice is Gordon Mote the blind pianist. He has some great solo stuff as well.
The Gaither Vocal Band has been around, in various forms, for decades! So many of those in the audience were members of the group and have all been amazing! Bill Gaither, his brother, and wife were the original members.
If you do some research, you’ll find that Bill Gaither and his wife have written some of the biggest gospel songs ever. Because He Lives is a favorite, but there are dozens and dozens more.

Most singers just sing the song and it’s done well and enjoyable. But that song with those three singers made you feel the song and truly understand and get the meaning of those wonderful words. They made you get the song!

Mark signed his first recording contract at the ripe old age of.......12:-) And he's the one who discovered David Phelps, who was auctioning at the studio that day in Nashville......he called Bill Gaither (he was in Bill's GVB by this time) and the rest, as they say is history.......
Mark Lowry has had MS for many years now. Among other things, it has made him partially deaf in one ear. When he sings about "the deaf will hear" he is truly singing "praises to the Lamb".
You should find some of his comedy videos for your own personal amusement.

The Gaither Band also has a reunion where all the members were dressed in 1800's garb and sang so many beautiful songs. It's very powerful and fun to sing along.
Wonderful reaction, Mark is a phenomenal singer, song writer and comedian. Mark wrote the song, when he sings it, there seems to be a lot more passion.

You would never believe that Mark is a comedian. The guy is a riot. He is a very gifted man.
Bill and Gloria Gaither knows vocal skils. They have launched several singing careers. Sandi Patti, Larnell Harris and many in the Gaither Vocal Band. Mark brought Bill Gaithers attention to David. They are my favorite GVB. Others are great, but they are Amazing.

Bill Gather has gathered some of the most talented people that one could hope for. The talented singers, the knowledge of who to put together, in which songs simply outstanding to bring out the perfect sound. I cannot get enough of these folks.
You should listen to David Phelps sing with the Gaither Vocal Band “Sinner Saved by Grace” and “ I pledged my allegiance” two of my all-time favorite GVB songs. You’ll love it because of the message of the song and their performance.

Just a note, the dude at the piano is Gordon Mote, who has a background as a session player for some of Nashville's heavy hitters. He's been playing keyboards for Gaither productions for a few years now, and is a pretty good singer himself. He's also totally blind.
