Can’t believe your timing. Just picked up same unit from neighbor and it needs the repair to fuel lines this is exactly what I needed. I opted for the repair kit due to lack of my experience. Very pricy. Thanks much
I totally agree with fixing the plate any way you can before purchasing a new one. How frustrating it must be to tell the owner what caused the problem and then to see him do the same thing. Anyway you diagnosed the problem and fixed it. Great job. Thanks for the tips and videos.
Hammers are fantastic tools! People look confused when I say I use hammers during oil changes and while doing tire work! Thank you for sharing and stay safe.
ECHO IS THE ONLY OUT DOOR POWER TOOLS I TRUST.. SINCE IVE TRY ALL OF THE NAME BRANDS ..MY BROTHER HAS LOTS OF THEM TOO DATING BACK TO THE MID 1980S ..AND THEY STILL RUN! WE RUN STABLE GAS TREATMENT IN OURS ..AS WELL AS THE ECHO GAS MIX ..KEEP UP ON the maintenance, trust me .they,ll last your 40 yrs or more
I now have 3 of the SRM 225s. One of them has a brush blade mounted on and other other 2 are just for trimming. They all seem to be pretty reliable. Just done yearly maintenance on them
Thank you for a indepth tutorial!!! I would have tried to get the metal air filter part back in to shape like you did. Perhaps would have used a press or small c-clamp first to maintian metal choke cover and press in to being flat. That's just me. However, your hammer method did the trick faster. Either way the end result took care of the issue. Much appreciated video!!! 🤩
100% would have bent the choke plate back as you did...maybe in a vice...no need to buy a part if it can be repaired...I am also cheap like you! (Plus if you are doing it for $ it keeps the cost of your repair down and expedites getting it back to a customer if you're not waiting on parts you're not likely to have on hand)...another great video...cheers!
100% would have tried to bend it back. I thought of possibly setting the metal piece in a vice and gently pressing it back. That's all I got. lol Thanks Home Garage
Just got a srm-225 echo for free, my neighbor put it next to their garage for the scrap man, the fuel tank was empty and I don’t think it has ran in awhile but I’m hopeful that I can get it going again
My srm 225 turns on but dies after about 10 seconds. The screen is clean, I even learned how to remove the brass cap so that I can adjust the carburetor but it still turns off. I don't know anything about this stuff so I just saw a couple of videos on how to replace the spark plug and hopefully that's all I need to fix. I don't think it's a year old yet that's why the screen was clean. How often should you change the spark plug? I guess it depends on how often you use it. Thanks for the videos.
@HomeGaragechannel Thanks for replying. I don't know why I was not notified you had replied but I went and replaced the spark plug which did not look too dirty either. It started up and revved up stronger like new but it still turns off. I even adjusted the carb once again but that didn't help either. Thanks for your videos. My brother in law's trimmer looks like it's in worse shape. His won't even start. I'd like to learn how to fix mine before I even try to fix his. Yeah, I'll see if replacing the diaphragm does the trick. Thanks once again.
If I was to buy a new one, I think I'd have to go with a echo over the stihl because I just like the design better with the speed feed head and the price difference. All my equipment is free stuff and I gotta say older ryobis have earned My respect. Abd yes I would have tried to fix that plate because well thats all it needed.

Hey HG watching this video I found two free GT225 much like the SRM's jthe own was having such issues with them both starting he went electric . I pretty much knew from the first look that the fuel mix was to heavy on the oil . He is a neighbor so I told him and he did not care he wanted them gone . Short story dumped old fuel rinsed out with gas then used my premix from husqvarna . One started right up and once the fuel ran threw it ran great the other would start but not go full rpm . I did not see any adjustment screws on this echo carb so I bought a new carb and same thing (I check exhaust screen before all this) compression on both over 120 psi tested to see if I had vacuum leak nope plug is new also . Where do I go from here ?
hmm. the carb is adjustable but they hid them. A new carb, works for a "new" engine but sometimes it won't work without a slight adjustment. Also, failed attempt to start a trimmer will also flood it, making this even more difficult
@@HomeGaragechannel ok it is not flooded it starts on second pull ad idles great just will not get to high speed I have looked all over the carb where would the adjustments screws be at on this carb? I can almost say for certain the high end needs adjustment . You will have to forgive me I work on larger machines lawn tractors and push mowers trying to learn how to fix the trimmers chain saws and such . Your videos are great on all the two cycle engines and mower engines .
Thank you…seems like most of the issues with my 2320t are the exact same. Question tho, is it a possibility tht too big of a carb (think it’s from a 25cc unit instead of a 21cc) on said trimmer would cause it to not run at full throttle (potentially to rich)?
I have srm 230, recently had locked on me, piston has small damage on the tip, should I consider replacing the half top with piston n rings? After opening n putting back together I got $100 psi out of it. N runs but dies pretty quickly.
I noticed not only are you extremely thorough in your investigation and repair you clean it up to look brand new. What solution do you spray it with and then rinse it off? It cleans beautifully with no scrubbing or hassle!
So replaced fuel lines and bulb and works good HOWEVER started right up but after idling for 5 second it quit. Started up slow to accelerate and quit at idle again. So need your help
Hey HG, I have a question. I've been using some Tygon-style line in a few of my machines, and for some reason, it keeps getting hard and shrinking so that it doesn't seal anymore where it comes out of the tank. It does this very quickly, maybe even within a few weeks. I do use ethanol fuel, but it still shouldn't be doing this so quickly. I add a fuel additive called quickare, maybe that's doing something? Do you have any ideas what's going on? Thanks a lot!
the additive is only to keep the fuel, usable not from harming fuel lines, and diaphragms, My suggestion, Is to use Real Tygon line, but it's about 3 times the price of the Tygon "like" line.
