pillars and road barriers, the unsung heroes of this game. it always amazes me how many more things you can do with these. learned something here, thx for this information.
Yup, I have many hours in the game (3000+) and never thought about this. Just goes to show that we can all learn something new. Excellent explanation, top job fella
If anybody has problems with corners sticking out, do this but use the lines that are on the sides of the rail and put one pillar every 5 lines and then use half foundations instead
1:40 The reason it doesn't quite align is because the curve shape is different if you build the curve between a fixed start and end point vs if you build it freeform (i.e. fixed starting point and don't connect it to another track piece). Interesting quirk. Issue is that the curve is smoother (closer to a perfect circle) if you draw freeform than it is if you draw it between two fixed points. You'll see this if you try to build a roundabout (circle); the last piece you place will be a weird shape. So if you're using this technique you should try to do it as you're building the track out instead of waiting until you have two fixed points the curve has to fit between.
I've always gone the other way. Built a roadbed using foundations, and techniques for making smooth curves on roads. Then aligned the rail with the roadbed. It's interesting seeing an approach that goes the other way. Certainly the method you're outlining here is a *lot* faster, though I think there's considerable overlap between foundations. I don't know that there's any clean solution to ramps, just because rails bend vertically in ways foundations can't easily match. I go with the rail leaving the foundation bed for short distances.
I've been using this technique for a couple years now since they added the columns. I usually use the small pillar, though; same effect. I use this technique for making curved roadways, too.
Thank you so much for this video!!!!! I've seen some amazing videos of the train setups but could never get mine to look ANYTHING like them. Now I have a base to work with. Keep being awesome.
Holy shit, this is even more huge for a completely different purpose! I was making road network and I want some specific angle, a sharp angles is too much and a small angle is hard to make. I did make an blueprints, but then there was never enough of them for all different cases. The other issue if I want to merge two platforms. While there are ways with pillars to put them in free style mode and place whenever you want, they still make from 2 planar sides one that have some diagonal cut, but the transition is still someone sharp, I wasn't able to make anything that have spline with custom curves. With this I can place rails with some padding from side on both left and right side of platforms I want to merge, did this trick to fill the side with foundations and fill rest with a regular foundations. And I think with this method I can create any custom angle whatever I need and it quite fast to place. I may also use this as a guides for blueprints. If I make 1x1 blueprint as a guide and place it in this curve, then use an actual blueprint and snap it on 1x1 blueprint guide, then I will have blueprints merged at a custom angles as well! I do need to test it tho, but it have so much potential!
That was cool man. I think you could use the same tactic to make nice smooth curvy roads through the terrain too. Thanks for the ideas this has spawned!
Great video, but honest feedback: Either lower the music volume or delete it entirely, there were points where the music got really annoying :) Waiting for more on Satisfactory!
I love the way it looks. Great video. I'm going to use this once 1.0 comes out! But judging from the title, I was expecting a tutorial on laying the track itself in a nice curve, along a greater distance :D
I found this method by myself, but i dont place them at specific spot and when I tried place foundation there was a mess with mega clipping, thx for details
If you have a double train rail, 2 next to eachother do you need to do it 2 times or just the outside one and extend it inwards? Thnx mate looks great thnx for tutorial
I've been trying this out for an hour now and it doesn't work. The corners keep popping out around the curve. Maybe they patch it? I've tried different degree of turns and I still have the same issue. 🤔
Reminds me of my first factory I made in early access. I didn't use foundations and I just routed conveyer belts wherever they needed to go "as the crow flies". It worked (barely)

I've used the pillar technique a few times, but never considered working out the intervals to get the foundations to align! Very smart, great video!

You sir are a Scholar and a Gentleman, you have no idea how long ive been looking for this Double track solution
Dang this means I could use rails to craft curvy buildings. nice!
OMG the simplest solution for track foundation. Thanks!

Will be making use of this in 1.0! Thanks!
Didn't know the pillars would snap to the rail, thats clever

I can't believe I've got a thousand hours in this game and have never seen this pillar method before! Nice tip, thanks for sharing!
Agree! I've got 2000 hours in and I still learn new things.
Melhor solução que vi até agora. E pelos comentários, não foi somente eu que achou isto.
Vai me ajudar bastante. Valeu!
THANK YOU! This is absolutely brilliant and I wish you a very bright Satisfactory life from now on!

@@gus.smedstad you can get it perfect using this method but it takes a little bit of patients
seems very tedious doing this tho, why dont the devs make this a bit easier for us? lol

Wow awesome trick, so many thing to learn in this game it never gets old.
I'm mindblown by the perfection omg
Wow thanks, no more jagged mess in my game
Finally I can make curves that align to the grid!
Damn finally, thanks, I was going crazy not knowing how to make decent roads
Life saver for someone with extreme OCD like me!
Awesome! Thanks for the video!
Great video and great explanation. Will try it out in my game. Thx for your work
2:38 Finally get to the point.
Cheers for this! Definitely going to try it out
Very nice! I will for sure use that trick when 1.0 comes out, thanks!
Very useful for me as i just started building with rails yesterday. Will definitely be incorporating this method.
Have my like sir, this is great!
Such an amazing advice! Thanks a lot!
Literally been playing this since drop and never thought of this. Absolutely genius ty. This alone deserves a like and sub.
you open my mind to also make perfectly curved road using this same method.
Really great tip, thanks for sharing!
Really nice method. Thank you!!
Absolute genius.

same here mate, i have somehting special planned for 1.0
Wow, so simple yet brillant. Thank you sir. Guess i better sub now.
and thank you!
Just redid all my roundabout entrances and exits omg so beautiful. Thanks again @Rxckxt
That is a real good Tip! Thx
You can also increase saturation values in the paint by manually putting in larger than the slider numbers to drown out the texture.

Poderia fazer um vídeo mostrando como construir os trilhos com essas curvas suaves.
interesting and very simple way for sure, very handy

SICK video bro. Definitely going to be doing this in 1.0 for sure. Went into my own creative file just to practice this.

Worked like a charm. If you use the Steel Frame 4m foundations then it looks like a wooden roller coaster track 🤣

you can make the rail any length you want then use this method with it.this is just an example. the greater the length the better it looks.

Layering foundations on top of each other like that doesn't cause issues? flickering and such?

Very nice technique but can I mention your video title is how to make perfect rail curves ... not how to get foundations to follow rail curve .... 😮😊
tomaito, tomarto...
Love it
very clever
Does this still work as of 1.0 ? I cannot get my foundations to align. The corners on the outside of the rail
curve always overlap.
yeah, seems to make a nasty saw tooth on the wide side of the curve
Slick.
Doesn't spamming so many foundation just for one curve impact performance?

amazing to see people spend so much time on esthetics, it is a factory not a piece of art, it is supposed to be noisy, dirty and efficient
