i'm 26 and it's the same for me. any water that get deeper than my neck makes me panic especially if i feel that my body starts float and i lose grip of the bottom
I'm always panicking when the water is too deep and my feet can't touch the ground I feel like i'm drowning when that happens, I want to enjoy the swimming so I want to learn...
Basically, you just relax like most people say. I would first practice floating on your back, because you can basically float forever on your back. If you ever feel like you’re drowning, just kind of give yourself a kick underwater to push yourself up, and push your back backwards. If you want to tread, start out by treading in the shallow end. Just kind of do circular motions with your feet, and (well I do doggie paddles in place to tread, lol) push yourself up with your arms in the water. Kind of confusing, but you’ll get it
freaky fujoshi, you switch between indefinite articles “a/an” depending on the sound that is produced not the actual letter. So what you tried to say, but failed, is that you use “a” before consonant sounds and you use “an” before vowel sounds. Your explanation makes no sense for words like “x-ray” or “utensil”.
As a kid I would think I did a great job of not drinking pool water until im called to wash up and some asshole makes the water wave and it goes in my mouth
I taught myself how to swim and as a result, I've never been able to do this and I've always wondered how. Now all I have to do is wait till summer and put this practice to the sword. Great tips!

I discovered I do know how to swim after accidentally swimming to the deep side of a lake I knew I could swim but not really, so I was swimming thinking it was not deep then I tried to stand and that’s when I knew I was a goner... my fear was so big I went to wild mode and started doing all kinds of fake ass strokes all the way from doggie swim to aqua man luckily they all worked I guess, because I’m here writing about it 🤣
Same! But when I was in 10 or in deep feet,I do a dog swim just to breath some air and swim back to the wall were I was clingung on to or to reach my kick board.
What's sad is that I live on a Caribbean island and swimming lessons are not mandatory. My brother died of drowning. He wasn't a strong swimmer. I heard that swimming is mandatory in Europe. Hopefully Caribbean islands can take a page out of their book because we're surrounded by water. Probably 50% or under of the population can swim in my country. I am now interested in swimming, and I am going on a ship for a year. Hopefully this helps while I take lessons. Too many people on my island die as a result of drowning. Just praying that our government implements this.
Luck if you don’t know how to swim and you’re stupid enough to go into water that you can’t stand in it’s kind of your fault for the results that you’re going to eventually get not the governments.
It’s 1 am and would say I am in the upper 10% of people when it comes to swimming yet here I am watching a video on treading water, something that I have been doing since I was about 4. I need some melatonin. Good luck for anyone learning how to swim just relax and once you got the basics down everything will just come naturally.
Thank you so much! I am 16 and all of my life I have never gone in the deep part of water because I always sank but to the part where I can touch the bottom so I panicked. Now, I am able to stay with my friends and family in the deep end of the pool!
Giggly KittenZ were you able to learn right away after watching this video ? How did you do it? Goin to Hawaii in 2 weeks it’s more like I will drown and die there🤦🏽♀️😳🤯😰please help!!
While I can float and swim at the bottom of the pool decently, however, treading is such a challenge all the time. Many thanks for the very clear instructions. I will put it into practice the next time.
Whenever I was visiting family in Seattle last year I had trouble treading water. I couldn’t do it at all. My auntie explained it by telling me just move rapidly in the water and you won’t sink. I did and it worked! After I got comfortable with that then I played around with it a bit bc it did drain quite a bit of energy after a while. So I eventually just played around with it when I was sure that even if what I tried didn’t work while trying to tweak my water treading skills, I could always go back to my rapid hand motions and kicks. Eventually I developed a way to tread water my way. And I made that way my own. It was really nice.
It's probably just me, but trying to remember, let alone understand, the complex instructions here is just about impossible. He may as well be trying to explain rocket science as far as my brain is concerned.
It easy bro I am 18 now and I learned that when i was 7 and no one showed me how to do it u just have to do what u see there its easy i don't now if its because my bigger brothers used to kick me off in deeeep water that made it easy to me but try it it's no hard
Basically, a lot of people can’t swim so I’m going to attempt to make it more simple. Kick your feet in a circular motion towards you, while you wave your arms calmly. The more you panic, the more you are likely to go underwater. Be careful and most of all, water and swimming should be fun. Don’t panic and remember, the more air you take in, you’ll most likely float, that’s why people take in deep breaths and hold them. Hope this helped even a little bit!
I have recently started to try to learn to swim again. I tried years ago, but I gave up. These videos are really helping me. Seeing rather than just hearing is beneficial. I think I am going to succeed this time.

After 30 years of fearing the water, I just learned to conquer my fear of it yesterday because of the beach. I figured that swimming pools create a claustrophobic sensation in me as it is a "box" with water. I can do back floats but never front crawls yet the learning curve for me was opening my eyes while doing the front crawl. Now I just need more practice and have treading as another float to master. Never conquer your fears, embrace it. It's hard but it works because I did so, so could you 👍🏼
I'm in high school and we have to do swimming. I am absolutely terrified of not being able to touch the bottom of the pool I tried it again but I got exhausted after 10 seconds and couldn't go in the deep end. How do I save my energy?
Jadooe You have to remember that it doesn't matter how much is below you when swimming. So long as you use proper technique, you can swim in any depth. A saying that I use often when teaching is "Tense muscle is dense muscle." Density isn't good for attempting to rest easily at the surface, especially where you cannot stand. I know it's intimidating at first, but try your best to have long and fluid motions, rather than short jerky motions. Additionally, even though the goal is to have your face above water for 100% of the time, holding your breath while treading will only help with raising your buoyancy. When you need to take a new breath, quickly and calmly release and take a new breath again. Keep everything slow. Just know that you're not racing anyone. Slow and steady will keep your heart rate down, allowing you to conserve energy, and ultimately Tread Water for longer. Lastly, I would recommend the Modified Breaststroke Kick for initially learning how to Tread Water. It's a more efficient kick overall. I hope this has helped!
Hi, Thanks a lot for this video. This video gives a very clear description for treading. I know to swim but while treading water I feel that I am sinking also it was quite difficult to get breaststroke kicks for treading after learning the freestyle ( I am speaking as a beginner) . I tried using the kick-board to learn breaststroke kicks it is not working. Can you please share videos on breaststroke with kick-board or treading water basic kicking with kick-board, if it is feasible.
benn solomon danny king leo I am not always correct, however, it is my opinion that you should never learn new skills with any swim aides such as a kickboard. They become a crutch by not allowing your body to feel what its like to move itself through the water unassisted. I recommend trying the Front Glide & Kick approach where you place one hand on top of the other, head down entirely below water in order to raise your body to the surface, then try the kick once your body is stabilised. For a reference on how a Front Glide should look, check out the Basics of Buoyancy video on our page. I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any more questions :)
I was going through basics of Buoyancy, it is really nice I got lot of tips. I have not learnt swimming in a procedural way, but learnt many of them through TH-cam videos. I know to swim side-wards and glide, next-time in pool I will try your tip and also the the treading without kick-board. Thank you.
@@Sinagtala1234S if you meant that your body still sinks, try this, simply lay on the water, breathe normally and you can float like that, you can rest like that, its like laying on bed but instead you lay on the water, spread a bit your arms and legs and dont be scared, btw try it with a family member or a friend just in case
I know how to swim but i dont know how to float yet since i only practiced only on where i can stand in my feet. Should i jump on a 6 ft water? And give it a try?
This is the best tutorial on eggbeater kick. Very technical and difficult to learn, but looks beautiful. I choose this one to perfect my moves in water.
I learned to swim because when I was little my dad threw me in the deep end of the pool and told me to get out 😂 well it worked and I’m gonna enlist in the coast guard now.. fear works! 😂
Bullshit. If fear kept people from drowning, no one would ever drown. According to your nonsense, no one actually learns to swim, they already know. Your dad is just an asshole and you're trying to defend him.
I love your videos! I’ve always been afraid of water/drowning but your videos helped so much. I learned how to conquer my fear and swim within an hour!!!
I have a 3 to 5 feet pool at my disposal, and I only know how to swim with my kickboard. I kick my feet up in my posterior, and I keep kicking my feet straight back. I keep holding on to my kick board while keeping my elbows straight. My kick board gives me confidence, but without it, I'm lost.
Only stuggle i have here is when the water cones higher to my shoulder cause when it reaches my neck.its feels kinda hard and panicking is the struggle e.o
people, heres a tip. Lookup "water sculling" first with your hands. Stay in the shallow part of the pool. Lift your knee so they wont touch the floor. And start threading water only with your hands. If you managed to lift your head while sculling with your hands, you should be able to go to the deep part of the pool and accompany sculling with slow scissor kicks. Thats how i learned to thread water. Also you may feel tired after this. But keep practising, your body will grow muscles so it'll get easier eventually
All my life i have tried going to the deeper side of the pool but my parents always told me not to cause idk how to properly swim. But now that i have a better idea of what to do im gonna beg them to let me try it. If i die well ☺️
omfg it was this video. This video saved my fucking life. I watched this video the day before I went swimming. I practiced this on my bed like just in case and the next day my uncle threw me into the deep end (it's not his fault. At that time I was visiting my home country in which almost everyone seemed to learn to swim fluently as a toddler) And my god I would have drowned if it wasn't for this video. My mind froze and went to this and I quickly did what I had practiced on the bed the day before, whilst panicking. And that was the day I learned how to stay afloat and swim in one place. I can swim fluently now :)
Thanks for the advice. I will try it. I know that I am tilting my head forward because I am always wanting to be ready to locate the bottom of the pool to put my feet down.
Very helpful! Thank you so much! Me and my friends went on a beach resort, im in 5th grade and trying to learn how to float in 10 feet deep. Well its not that deep for me. Im having trouble floating so i just hold on the sides, and swim... I just love swimming ❤ It makes me very happy. Thank you so much!
Whilst not a swimming teacher, the way many learn to swim as children in Australia is to start in shallow water lying horisontal to the water with the arms walking and touching the sand or floor. Essentially this teaches the dog paddle. As confidence grows the breast stroke is just a natural progression, then overarm then backstroke and then butterfly. Somewhere in there we learned to drive and great water. Most Aussies can Seim by age 11 to 12. At 12years, the P.E. course was swimming with certificates a long the way and the target being the Bronze medalion. From memory, shallow dive, deep dive, safety jump. Tread water for 30mins. 3 different swimming strokes over distance in a given time, 2 life saving techniqies and resucitation. I think the treading water with clothes on, then off then on again was the most difficult. We learned about ripps and how to swim around them all sorts of things relating to self preservation in water. Even some canoeing and some surfing. Not all received a bronse medal but most did, others managed to be able to at least save themselves if not others as well. Great stuff. Then there was the St Johns cadets. A free meal and football match or some other such Sporting event along with some marching and further health care. Eventually bachelor of nursing now retired. Some football and golf inbetween. Lots of family! Natural progression for me at least.
I’m planning on getting a kayak or small boat for fishing. I need to learn this just Incase I ever flip the kayak or boat. Unfortunately I have no place to practice this.
The average person 10 to 15 minutes.. People who train often in swimming.. Probably around 30 minutes to an hour... Exceptional swimmers and water athletes can go for a couple of hours at a time id imagine..
In parts of utah where I live there are some really old school buildings that are like about 50 years old that are still used but are shortly rebuilt without them at all that have them but they just don’t ever use them anymore or the pools are just filled in, cause in the 70s or before or after I think that the swimming classes were either required or an option.
Wow this might seem simple to others but this tutorial seems to complicated. I started listening to the instruction and look st the motions and hot lost because it looked the swimmer was going the complete opposite.
I have a knee immonilzation, I can't tread water by bending knee...any form which can help? My left knee only bends 10 degree.. I tried egg beater motion today for 2 hours...had some progress
I was always scared of water even tho I love it so much but I just can't get myself to overcome my fear of drowning! as soons as it's deeper than shoulders I panick and ruin it for myself and I hate it but this motivated me to properly learn how to swim

My school had mandatory swimming lessons in 2nd grade, but I didn't go because I was too scared to go into 4 meter deep swimming pool

Thank you.
Kick your feet in a downwards position
Damn I don't want to swim, I really need a "How to be Jesus tutorial".
Lol I'm ded
Wish I could walk on water!
Pros: will be able to walk on water
Cons: will have to be dead for 3 days before you can.
You called me?
Just focus your aura to your feet and BOOM
This video str8 up taught me how to tread water. Something I have struggled with for years. The slow motion parts were especially helpful. Thx a lot!
i just let myself sink and then jump up, take a breath and repeat
cara bro i do that too
What if ur in the passific ocean? (No offence)
And that helped you learn how to swim?
@@wonderfulnature5433 lol just jump
higher it'll work............I guess
@@wonderfulnature5433 jump like superman
Lifeguard jumped in for me cause he thought I was having a seizure.
LMAOO
Hahahha
All ppl out here like : OMG DID IT WORK THO. dude. The man in the vid is literally doing it and staying on top of the water.
I know how to swim but I just don't know how to tread water.
Same XD
Same yooo
Invaluable video, compact and filled with helpful hints.
gud Day! Can I have a permission to show this video to my class.
Hence, we can't have a Face to Face learning due to Pandemic. Thank you.
Of course you can! Share away!! :)
I try all of this and my body still sinks... It's like I'm not meant to swim
Same
@@Sinagtala1234S if you meant that your body still sinks, try this, simply lay on the water, breathe normally and you can float like that, you can rest like that, its like laying on bed but instead you lay on the water, spread a bit your arms and legs and dont be scared, btw try it with a family member or a friend just in case
@@senbon751 You can't even get into that position if you can't tread water.
I think if you kick your legs like in swimming you may get in a more horizontal position like laying on the water
Usually I when my feet touch the floor I just jump up when I'm in a deep (not that deep) pool but this really helped thank you so much!
One time I slipped off a slope and started `drowning then my brother grabbed me and said I looked like a fish on land
I learned to swim because when I was little my dad threw me in the deep end of the pool and told me to get out 😂 well it worked and I’m gonna enlist in the coast guard now.. fear works! 😂
Nice same
Me tries. *YES I’M DOING IT!!!* wait nvm I’m standing underwater.
This is my brother
Omg so funny omg haha
This is the best explanation I've seen so far.
Me while watching this : "I got this!"
Also me being in the water: "what was the first step again?"
Also also me: "damn I'm stupid!"
Funny'nt
True that happens sometimes lol
Darn bro. All these years I just been flapping like a fish. This looks like it actually will work a lot more easier.
I keep sinking...
It doesn't work
Tfw when youtube taught me how to swim and it really works. Now I can enjoy swimming.
Where you said to relax the legs do you keep it straight? Or slightly bend?
No matter what. I just cannot tread the damn water
Same with me
I tried this
Forgot the technique
Went to far to the feel zone
And almost drowned!
Luckily I lived while panicking
I was about to drown too for like 2 times when i was little life is beautiful
and the cool thing is I SAVED MYSELF
Another kpoptard/gachatard
Can you tread when your not fully submerged in the water? Lets say im 5'10 and im in a pool at the 5"0 section of water.
534 people died while trying this and their ghost disliked the video
haha
Hahaha 😂
Guess u haven’t been to the cemetery lately! They’re 569 ;)
@@ma9ru25 lol
I would like this but it is 69
Thanks!
Doing this technique made me drink half the pool letting me stand up without moving any muscles i never knew i had
All my life i have tried going to the deeper side of the pool but my parents always told me not to cause idk how to properly swim. But now that i have a better idea of what to do im gonna beg them to let me try it. If i die well ☺️
Nao Ra good luck with that! ☺️
It worked for me....It was a magical experience to keep my head outside of the water and breath
omfg it was this video. This video saved my fucking life. I watched this video the day before I went swimming.
I practiced this on my bed like just in case and the next day my uncle threw me into the deep end (it's not his fault. At that time I was visiting my home country in which almost everyone seemed to learn to swim fluently as a toddler)
And my god I would have drowned if it wasn't for this video. My mind froze and went to this and I quickly did what I had practiced on the bed the day before, whilst panicking.
And that was the day I learned how to stay afloat and swim in one place.
I can swim fluently now :)
I know that not keeping my head up is my problem, but I cannot stop myself from tilting it forward.
topgrain Try broadening your shoulders and bringing out your chest a bit. that'll change the angle of your head to tilt back a bit.
Thank you so much!
i'm going to ask ......what technique do you recommend
RoyalBloodtv I recommend sculling my opinion
Thanks so much for making this video. This is exactly what I needed to learn.
You mentioned that treading water uses a modified breaststroke kick. What makes 7:14 it modified?
Thank you so much. This one is really informative and well illustrated. Keep cool :)
I just use my hands and slightly kick my feet. Nothing like this video.
I wonder if the way i do it makes me get more tired faster.
Christopher Banacka Same! I just do kicking and I still manage to stay afloat...
Same. Gets me tired fast though. Not sure if it’s the way i do it, but i tried this, and i also get tired easily, so i guess it’s just me.
What do you mean slightly kick? Like a little flutter kick?
Whilst not a swimming teacher, the way many learn to swim as children in Australia is to start in shallow water lying horisontal to the water with the arms walking and touching the sand or floor. Essentially this teaches the dog paddle. As confidence grows the breast stroke is just a natural progression, then overarm then backstroke and then butterfly. Somewhere in there we learned to drive and great water. Most Aussies can Seim by age 11 to 12. At 12years, the
P.E. course was swimming with certificates a long the way and the target being the Bronze medalion. Natural progression for me at least.
i learned a lot from this than the swimming classes i was forced to take
I’m planning on getting a kayak or small boat for fishing. I need to learn this just Incase I ever flip the kayak or boat. Unfortunately I have no place to practice this.
It's definitely a lot harder than it seems but once you can do it It's alot of fun😭
This is exactly the kind of video I was looking for thks
How long can an average person float like this?
Without a rest? Around 3-5 hours
@Ezechiel Man sorry i didn't read the average part😅, 3-5 hours is the max
The average person 10 to 15 minutes.. People who train often in swimming.. Probably around 30 minutes to an hour...
Exceptional swimmers and water athletes can go for a couple of hours at a time id imagine..
In parts of utah where I live there are some really old school buildings that are like about 50 years old that are still used but are shortly rebuilt without them at all that have them but they just don’t ever use them anymore or the pools are just filled in, cause in the 70s or before or after I think that the swimming classes were either required or an option.
How long can you do this as a professional ?
Why am I watching a video of how to swim at 3 AM?
Francis Gonzales me right now
4:30 AM for me😵😵😵
Wow this might seem simple to others but this tutorial seems to complicated. I started listening to the instruction and look st the motions and hot lost because it looked the swimmer was going the complete opposite.
If you conquer your fear, this will leave you addicted.
using these videos for my drownproof training
thank you
Can I tread water by arching my back and putting my head high that it seems as if I'm floating, but I'm kicking my legs at the same time?
Me while watching the video: swimming is easy
Me trying to swim: omg its impossible
TIL my "improvised" water tread is actually just called the egg beater kick. Neat.
I already know how to swim. Just came here to flex it.
Right inside of knee pops when I straighten my leg on the kick. Trying to figure out what my problem is. Stretching?
I have a knee immonilzation, I can't tread water by bending knee...any form which can help?
My left knee only bends 10 degree.. I tried egg beater motion today for 2 hours...had some progress
I just learned to tread water. Guys do not fully follow these steps. You can make your own improvised way of treading water.
I agree with this because people have different body shapes and density
I can do freestyle, breast, back, and butterfly but I can’t tread :(
Audi Thief I can do freestyle and tread :T *_youre better at swimming than me_*
Shiiit i thought that i'm the only one
That means you suck at swimming
I rather just accept my fate then trying to remember all this complex instruction during a adrenaline and panic of not drowning 😂🌊🙋♂️
In my opinion, trading water should be taught before teaching any stroke. This is damn important.
I was always scared of water even tho I love it so much but I just can't get myself to overcome my fear of drowning! as soons as it's deeper than shoulders I panick and ruin it for myself and I hate it but this motivated me to properly learn how to swim
